Have you seen those layouts where just one section of the photo is black and white while something else is in color still? Such as this one?

May I say that beautiful child was created by me. Ok, I had some help! Everything else in the layout is by Lauraskathi and Laura Wiley, their Spring Colors kit, modified by me to match my daughter's eyes.
For the black and white picture here, I actually ran my In The News Script, but in this tutorial we'll be using grayscale.
First, open up the picture you want to use. Then click on Shift + D to duplicate it. Close out your original so that you don't accidently save over it with what you are working on. Now, click Shift + D again because we'll need two pictures to work with.
On the first photo go up to Image and Grayscale

You'll notice your picture is now black and white. Now, go up to Image - Increase Color Depth - RGB-8bits/channel

Now, right click on the top of the picture that is still in color and click on Copy (or you can just make that picture active by clicking on it, then using the keyboard shortcut CTRL+C). Go back to your black and white picture, right click on the top, and paste as new layer.

Now using your lasso tool set on point to point select on the parts of your picture that you want to remain in color.

Now you want to invert the selection, you can either do that by clicking selection, invert, or CTRL+SHIFT+I.

Click your delete key. voila! The only parts there in color were the parts that you selected!
Go to selection, Select None

Go over to your layers palette and right click on the top layer, merge visable.

Now either save or copy and paste it onto your layout!
Have a wonderful day!
