I’m Not Going Anywhere

I’m staying right where I’m at.  Did you see my Project 365 Day 20 picture? Go check it out.

I cropped in close to the bush so that you could see the ice.

That’s what my world looks like right now.  All of it coated in ice.

I tried to get a picture of the ice sheet that has built up over the snow, but it’s so dark and gloomy that even with my flash, I can’t get a good picture.

That means my kids are out of school today.  Yippie!  That wasn’t sarcastic in any way, shape, or form.

It was a long night last night.  Christiano with his fever, Jordan acted out in a way that had me broke down in tears, the girls were fighting. Pato actually came home early because I called him crying.  Just one of those nights when you can’t take anymore. Christiano isn’t as hot today, but he still is running a temp.  All that combined is what is keeping me from looking forward to today.  The good news is Pato is off this morning until 5, so he can help me with children who have cabin fever.  At least that is what I’m calling whatever the problem is that has them at each others’ throats.

That comment about not being able to take anymore just took me back to senior year English class.  My English teacher had just gotten back from being snowed in at the Ohare airport for a couple of days.  My best friend and I decided that was the opportune moment to start fighting.  Our teacher slammed a book down on her desk and said, I have had ENOUGH dissension!!!  We jumped and she went into a speech about being stuck in the Ohare airport for days, walking uphill both ways through a 1 mile high pile of snow barefoot, etc etc etc.  Not only did we learn the definition of a new word (dissension), we earned a free trip to Mr Van Roekal’s office.  No passing go, no collecting $200.  Just a free trip to another lecture. I don’t think we got detention but her raised voice was more than enough.  That and Mr Van Roekal’s thorough disappointment in us.  He was so good about making you feel bad about disappointing him without even trying.  This look he gave you.  You felt so guilty.

I don’t think I uttered a peep in her class without raising my hand for the rest of my school career.

I didn’t get in trouble a lot in school, nor did I enjoy being embarrassed in class.  That had a nice impact on me.

While we’re on high school and being embarrassed, getting in trouble.  I always had trouble getting to typing and accounting class on time for some reason.  Mrs Harms was not someone you ever wanted to disappoint either.  And I managed to do it everyday.  Almost all of the time I spent in detention was due to being late to her class.  After I graduated I was working at a dance club as a cocktail waitress.  Our name tags had our hometown on them.  One guy said, oh, you’re from here?  I said yes.  He said, do you know Mrs Harms.  I believe I only said yes, but I’m assuming my face registered the way I truly felt about her.  He said, that’s my mom.  I just about died.  Oh oh oh, she’s a lovely lady.  Don’t lie.  I hated her as a teacher too.

*phew*

On to the Ricky Martin TOTD (I swear I’m not stalking Ricky, I honestly just like his music, though the whole bed and cookie crumbs thing applies here.  He tweeted something neat one day and it just snowballed.)

See, he just does so much good.  Here’s a picture he posted yesterday of him in Port au Prince, Haiti. I’m going to get that shirt he’s wearing next check.

Keep the prayers and thoughts up for the people of Haiti who just had another aftershock, this one a magitude of 6.1.

I have a new giveaway up – Love In 90 Days.

Have a great day and stay safe wherever you are. It looks like nasty weather is hitting all over the US.

Have you ever bought insurance online?  I’ve looked into car insurance that way but we decided to go with an agent in person.

Project 365 Day 20

Posted by Heather Manning On January - 20 - 2010

Told you I’d have a comparison picture with the ice today compared to the frost on the trees yesterday.

Project365-2010-20

Without getting my camera wet, that’s the best I could do. I wanted to get a picture of the snow that had a sheet of ice over it, it didn’t come out pretty.  Too dark even with my flash.  I’ll work with it and see if I can’t fix it up enough to recognize what it is for my blog post today.

I think if I left the house today I would need good life insurance quotes.  Accidents everywhere.  I’m staying home.

Project 365 Day 19

Project365-2010-19

I didn’t have a lot of time to take a picture this morning.  Christiano is running a fever and throwing up.  I hurried outside, saw this tree with the ice crystals hanging off of the branches, snapped a few pictures, hope that I could work with whatever I got and came back in to hold my cranky little guy.  It took a bit of color editing because it’s dark and foggy out, but I like the end result.

I’ll have to take a picture tomorrow and compare the ice.  We’re supposed to have an ice “situation” starting tonight with up to 1/3 of an inch of ice to be expected by morning.  Fun fun.

Now might be a good time to check on the life insurance statistics.  Or do like me, don’t drive on the ice.  I hibernate.
