Some Nail Art Manicures I did

Posted by Heather Manning On October - 13 - 2011

I am in no way as talented as Diana over at Painted Lady Fingers is, but she inspires me all the time to get out my brushes and paint from time to time.

Lucky me, I also have 2 girls who adore have their nails done.

Here’s a few designs I have done recently that I haven’t shared and thought I would after yesterday’s post about my very naughty two year old.

Don’t judge.  I don’t clean the sides of my nails up as well as she does.

Just remember I have 4 kids that are always into something, as you know from the post you just peaked at.  I’m lucky to get a coat of polish on.

271478_10150656833130551_702180550_19225268_658202_o (1) (don’t giggle, these are all free hand, no stamps)

My ladybug scene complete with clouds.

Leece has the flowers, Kat has the fishes – with spouts of water, I’m thinking that makes them whales.

My little tribute to the ocean with some luck thrown in.

My funky little flowers

I’ve done so many more and I am wishing I had taken pictures, noted supplies etc, but I didn’t.  I’ll start.

I can say, most of my bases are OPI, the art is done with LA colors usually because I hate cleaning my brushes and theirs come with a brush that is decent for painting with, and then rhinestones.  Love rhinestones.  I always stock up on those on Ebay.

Click this link, you’ll find tons on Ebay.

And I got a decent price on my nail brush set.  Here’s a link for that on Ebay.

I’m not a manicurist, just a SAHM trying to get back to who I am inside – a fun loving nail painting kinda hippy/boho chica who LOVES fashion, I don’t need expensive brushes.  Not to do my own or my 4 and 7 year old’s nails.

Have a great day!

I Have A VERY Naughty 2 Year Old

Posted by Heather Manning On October - 12 - 2011

I had a bottle of my current favorite nail polish.

Notice the word had.

d_7714

(I don’t remember what red that is, but isn’t it gorgeous?  Looks even better on your nails!)

I was making supper.

Katiana came running in – MOM!  Nano spilled nail polish ALL OVER the bathroom floor.

nailpolish

Why yes, yes he did.

And no one bothered to tell me until it was already dried onto the linoleum.  I think he tried stamping as well.  The pads to my Konad Stamper were history missing.  I was too angry to see how scratched up my nail plates were going to be.  I should probably do that now.

We were out of paper towels and I did not have nearly enough nail polish remover to pull that off.  I was not about to ruin one of my towels with that mess.

I’m wondering if the EcoOrange I bought from a door to doors salesman will take it out because I don’t relish spending time in the bathroom cleaning it up, inhaling massive amounts of nail polish fumes.

Seriously….

you thought your kids were naughty?

I’m betting I have yours beat.

Have a great day!

Girls’ Night Out

Posted by Heather Manning On October - 9 - 2011

I love girls’ night out.

It’s becoming more frequent as my kids get a little older.

That whole breastfeeding each child for 16-18 months kind of limited my availability for awhile.

Last night was Danielle, Angie, and my night out.  So much fun!

289072_10150843365985551_702180550_21083428_896865700_o

Ready to go.  Hair freshly colored.  Loving this red.  I think I finally found a color that is as close to the red I want as I am going to get.  It’s Fat Foam Intensive Red.

fatfoamredLove it!  I wanted like fire engine red that is permanent.  I want this color –

ariana-grande-gallery

Yes, I do watch too many kids’ shows.  That’s Ariana Grande from Victorious.  I’m getting close I think.  I’ve been a red head for awhile now and I don’t see me going back to anything else.  We’ll attribute that to my grandma, who had auburn hair.  I never remember her ever letting a gray hair show.  I’m a little more intense than my grandma.

323954_10150843363260551_702180550_21083405_627045128_oA picture Jordan took of me.  We were attempting to get me a new Facebook profile pic.  You know, the important things.

337920_10150843368665551_702180550_21083455_605411357_oAlmost exactly the same, but he did good.  Yes, my microdermal head is missing.  It fell off in bed.  Then the other one fell off in bed.  Can’t find them.  They are possibly up my vacuum.  I ordered a new one, it should be here soon.  In the meantime, I have a hole in my face.  Not literally, I have a titanium anchor in my face you can see.  Fun fun!

335359_10150843403060551_702180550_21083648_667868508_oAngie came and got me.  We played around with Alyce’s hat for a bit.  Then off we went.  We met Danielle at Tsing Tsao here in town and had Chinese.

336721_10150843516785551_702180550_21084502_1220140287_oAren’t my girls gorgeous?  I <3 them!  I’ve said this before.  Friends for 24 years.  That’s a long time.

We’re going to have a slumber party for their birthdays next month.  We (meaning Angie and I are twisting Danielle’s arm because SOMEONE thinks we are too old for a slumber party) think it’s a fabulous idea!  My birthday isn’t until December, we’ll have to have another one then.

Let’s all convince Danielle –

Then we went over to Mickey’s Irish Pub and hung.  Danielle brought a date.  She double booked girls’ night out.  Ok, it was a safety thing too.  Kind of a blind date thing.  He was very nice.  Possibly overwhelmed by the three of us together.  Possibly didn’t get a word in because Heather and Angie giggle and chat A LOT.

My phone died.

I didn’t get anymore pictures.

They did.  But they haven’t uploaded them to Facebook yet for me to steal borrow.    Get with it girls.  I need more pictures for this post!

I had so much fun.  I always do when it’s the three of us together, or just 2 of us, not quite as much fun when it’s just one of us. :)

I’ll leave you with a picture of what showed up at my door at midnight Friday night.

Don’t mind the fact that my dogs have ripped my swing cover to heck.

My sister in law is mighty talented.

I knew she was behind it, but it totally didn’t look like my niece.  I pulled the wig out of her eyes.  That’s so not Taylor.  She didn’t smile or anything.  I was gauging how tall she was compared to me, so not Taylor.  (She was barefoot, took an inch off.)

It was Taylor.

She’s fab.

Have a great day!

Sock Bun

Posted by Heather Manning On October - 7 - 2011

Have you guys ever run across something that was so simple that you HAD to share it with everyone.

I totally did.

I don’t know why I am so excited about this.

It just made me happy.

I was doing my daily cruising over at Social Moms……

C00e14b0281639d5c36b0b4c9bbb6394

(Yep, I love them)

(pssst… while you are liking them, I would love you to like me too!)

when I came across this article called Taming Your Tresses In Minutes.  In it, she talked about a sock bun and linked us up to this YouTube video.

I watched it and said, how have I not heard of this before?  Something so simple?

I ran and immediately began cutting the toes off of socks.

Sorry honey

I started out with my hair and it’s just barely long enough to get up into a sock bun.

Then I pulled Alyce over to me.  My girls have the thinnest fly away baby fine hair you will find.

I thought if this would make their hair look fuller, that would be awesome!  I was doubting that Alyce’s hair would stay.

339622_10150841436310551_702180550_21070298_1305751925_oIt totally stayed.

Look how thick that looks too!

She decided she is wearing her hair like that for Halloween because Tinkerbell needs a beautiful bun.

I totally agree.

If I am the last one who has heard of using a sock for your bun, I apologize.  I’m really hoping I’m not.  You never know.  I tend to get caught up in my own world of kids, soccer, and cleaning.

Have a wonderful day!

Soccer Pics

Posted by Heather Manning On October - 5 - 2011

Job 1:21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return.  The Lord gave, the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.

I have been meaning to get these up for awhile now and, well, let’s be honest – I have a horrible memory. :)

We had soccer pictures a couple of weeks ago for all 3 kids.  I never buy the pictures. I usually snap an end of season picture of the teams and have them printed out.  99% of the time, I like my own pictures better.

These won’t be hanging anywhere.

I think someone put their finger on my lens.

Blurry blurry blurry.

Oh well, we’ll still look at them.

Their my kids pictures.

September12My team – I’m in the green shirt, Leecy is standing beside me.

Aren’t they cute?

September13

Leecy

September14

Katiana’s team – Kat is standing on the far right, our right.

September15

Jordan’s team, he’s standing on the far right.

Both Jordan and Kat’s team are filled with kids they have played with for years.  It’s nice that they try to keep the kids on the same team each year.  They grow with each other.  I can remember when some of the kids on Jordan’s team were 6 and 7.  Crazy how time flies.  I’d say that about Kat’s team, but they are 7 now. :)

Am I coaching next season so that Leecy gets that same chance?  Absolutely!  I don’t know why I didn’t do this before.  Too much fun working with those little girls!

Last night’s practice was a blast.

Katiana and Nano were both sick yesterday with fevers.  Pato came home from work to stay with them while I ran Jordan and Leecy to practice.

Seriously, 4 year olds playing soccer?  Too much fun!  Though, I had 2 girls that had decided they were done with soccer last night.  S was mad.  Her mom said, she assumed it was at her.  Either way, I could not talk her into playing but eventually, she came over.  E told me she decided she hated soccer. :( So sad!  I talked her into kicking the ball to the goal as hard as she could and she decided she liked soccer again.

We did some drills then we scrimmaged.  Then my co-coach’s daughter had to go to the bathroom and the rest of the girls decided to sit and chat.  I could not get more than 3 of them out on the field at once.

Practice over.

:)

Then I went and sat and enjoyed the beautiful weather by myself as I watched Jordan scrimmage his cousin Taylor’s team.

I don’t get to do that often.

Normally I am running after Christiano.

It was a fabulous time.

Came home, Pato made pizza.

Then I went to bed.

Christiano still sounds horrible this morning, but Katiana is off to school.

Have a wonderful day!

Busy Weekend

Posted by Heather Manning On October - 3 - 2011

Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

How about you?

Saturday we had 2 soccer games.  Alyce was at 9 and Kat was at 1 in another town.  At least they were far apart in times.

290963_10150828146795551_702180550_20974194_1459101602_o

It was cold.

324776_10150828149625551_702180550_20974224_867848716_o

Me and Leecy after coaching her game.

If you haven’t had a chance to see 4 year olds play soccer (mom that’s a hint to come to Alyce’s next game!), I highly recommend it.  It is so much fun.  My co-coach (I decided I liked that better than calling her my assistant coach because she rocks) has been on the field the first two games, so we decided I would go out and do it this time.

I was so proud of my girls.  I had 3 that were completely on fire, scoring goals left and right.  Leecy was out there kicking the ball, running after it, right in the middle of it all.  One of my other girls is coming out of her shell and getting out there.  And one is still really shy.

She is such a doll.

She’s my co-coach’s daughter.

We finally got her out on the field at the very end, but only if I promised to hold her hand.  I did.  We’d run over to where the ball was, and I’m all kick it, and she’d kick it and it would go a bit.  So sticking cute!

We won.

It was awesome!

Then we headed over to watch my nephew’s game, he was just a field over.

291651_10150828145330551_702180550_20974178_2130914241_o

There’s Leecy and Carter.  She’s not THAT much taller than him, you’ll notice he is leaning on his ball.  Leecy is 3 months older than him, but Christiano claims him as his best friend.  :)   I’m so glad all of our cousins get along so well.

After all that was done, I had a headache forming, we came home, I laid down and Pato took Katiana to her game where she made 2 goals.  She rocks like that.

Then off to my niece Cambria’s birthday party.

341198_10150828930500551_702180550_20979854_166499029_o

Isn’t she beautiful?  My brother’s kids all look so much alike when they are this age.  She reminds me of both Taylor and Carter when they were babies.

She’s 2 now.

Do I still get to call her a baby?

332586_10150828870330551_702180550_20979402_282483745_o

This little man my friends is our newest addition to the family.  Little Aiden, my sister Abby’s son.  He’s so stinking cute.  He was all laughing at Aunt Heather.  He loves me like that.

323892_10150828871235551_702180550_20979409_80683215_o

Wide-eyed boy.

322047_10150828903860551_702180550_20979603_802382571_o

There he is with his proud daddy.

Let me start these next pictures with, my family is so strange.

329077_10150828928915551_702180550_20979842_1065778806_o

Ok, so I kicked off the strangeness.

334500_10150828927970551_702180550_20979835_1437360448_o

Then mom joined in.

287121_10150828929570551_702180550_20979846_722118490_o

Then Josh got in on the action.  He wasn’t cool enough to put the wig UNDER his hat like I did.

322452_10150828855655551_702180550_20979257_323525662_o

Then Aiden’s big sister Kayla got in on it.  Don’t ask me what happened with the brightness on this shot.  These are all from my phone.

290689_10150828932105551_702180550_20979863_1857620996_o

Ok, so my niece Taylor wouldn’t put the wig on, but she totally got into surfing the net on her sister’s new laptop.

Loving that feather in her hair.  I got a bunch off of Ebay (140) and split them with my sister in law.  Everyone in my family now is wearing various feathers.  Fun fun!

After that, I went out to Biaggi’s with my friend Danielle, and then we hit a couple of bars downtown and met up with our friend Brian, who I haven’t seen in years.  It was too much fun!!!!

We hit the former Blues on Grand, which is now the Gas Lamp.  Loved it!  It wasn’t a bunch of 21 year old hoochies trying to get some.  People danced but it was more dancing with abandon, the way I like to dance.  You know, dance like nobody is watching. :)

Then we went to Beechwood Lounge but I had to stop and take a picture of Casper’s wife.

323246_10150829392510551_702180550_20984091_1011700381_o

One of the many sculptures in downtown Des Moines now. While lots of downtown areas are sadly neglected and falling apart, Des Moines is thriving.  We went through our stage when it was falling apart and central Iowans said, enough!  Downtown is so cool now.

After hanging, I came back home and promptly forgot to set my alarm for church.  Missed that.  Jordan had his game at 1.  I got him there at 12:45, then ran and got the kids lunch.

Came back at 1:15 and he comes ambling out of the ky-bo.  He threw up and didn’t bother to tell his coach we were there.  Fabulous, right?

He’s not sick.

A dose of Miralax clears that right up.

So, he missed his game.

Then off to Kat’s soccer practice.

330590_10150830741900551_702180550_20996945_1224248249_o

Kat’s in the pink right behind the goal.

Then home to relax after a very busy weekend.

Tonight is goalie practice for Jordan, tomorrow is Jordan and Alyce’s soccer practice, Wednesday night church, and then Thursday I finally get an evening home to relax.

Friday is soccer practice for Jordan again.

Then we start it all over again with 3 weekend games.

I’d say I can’t wait for winter, but, Jordan plays soccer year round, and he’s starting basketball at the Y next month, plus the girls want to get into ballet (Alyce) and gymnastics (Kat).

I don’t suppose Christiano would be content to just not be in anything, do you?

I didn’t think so.  Not with the fact that my 2 year old can drop kick the ball (goalie style) better than my 7 year old.  He’s already started practicing with Alyce’s team.

Have a great day!

How to Fix Your Microdermal Piercing After Being Hit

Posted by Heather Manning On September - 29 - 2011

I am not responsible for anything that might happen to your microdermal  or your skin if you do what I did.  This was a last ditch effort for me in an attempt to save my microdermal.  I would suggest talking to your piercer first, always.

My poor microdermal has been through hell since I got it done back in February.

182064_10150391076840551_702180550_17279482_7024241_nThat is the day I got it done.  It healed nicely.  I loved it.  It’s my favorite piercing.

219048_10150527439000551_702180550_17979099_7651299_o

After it was healed.

I’ve snagged it on sweatshirts a few times, literally felt the rip as it well, ripped.  In fact, I snagged it on that sweatshirt I have on in the picture above the first time. I got it caught on my pillow a few times.  Each time, I put a band aid over it for a couple of days and it was fine.

The worst though was when I got hit in the face with a soccer ball.  My husband was taking shots at my son so he could practice his goalie work.  I wasn’t paying attention and smack, right into my microdermal.

328282_10150750287955551_702180550_20275481_7489152_o

If you look under my dermal there, you can see the lump.  I had make up on, but without it, you could totally see the anchor under my skin.  It was completely silver/gray.

I went to my piercer, who wasn’t there.  The other guy said, I don’t mess with micros.  Come back when she is here.  I was worried she was going to take it out, so I didn’t go back.

Last night, it was really pushed up and I was worried about it.

I started surfing and searching how to fix your microdermal.  All I was finding was how to take care of it and that you need to have it taken out if your body rejects it.  My body hadn’t rejected it, I had pretty much ripped all of the tissue out of the anchor holes.  That is the whole reason for this post, if I had trouble finding something about going through something similar to what I did, others are going to also.

Finally, after much digging, I found this site.

I don’t suggest you doing this because your not a piercer but if your stuck and you have no other option you want to push really hard with your pointer finger in the center of the gem on your anchor pushing it straight down onto your skin. You would do this before you started the 3-4 day round circle band aid rejection reversing trick. get it? hope that helps..

What did I have to lose?  I was going to lose my microdermal anyway if something didn’t happen, and it looked horrible even with make up over it.

Went to the mirror and started pushing down.  It didn’t hurt at all and I started noticing a difference right away.  Kept pushing and pushing and….

this is disgusting, weak stomachs skip down a bit.  I think the tissue and pus from injuring it was actually stuck UNDER my anchor and was pushing it up against the skin, because a lot of not completely dry, but not liquid, stuff came out.  I just kept pushing until it was lying flat again and I couldn’t see the color of the anchor through my skin.

I put a band aid over it last night so I wouldn’t snag it, but I truly don’t think it needs to heal again, it didn’t hurt at all.  It was just disgusting the stuff that came out, the smell.  Be forewarned, if you have what I had, it stinks….bad.

It’s almost completely flat under my skin again.  I’m going to keep working on it but I’m so relieved.  Have to take out your favorite piercing?  Please no.  I had to find another option.  I was desperate enough to have my piercer move it around under my skin if she would.

Turned out, drastic measures weren’t needed.

Have a great day!
