I ordered the red Ian cross for one of my lucky readers!
You will love it! I received mine in yellow the other day and I love it!
That’s mine.
This giveaway below is sponsored by me. I purchased the cross myself because I believe in BOB and their purpose.
BOB is a collaborative effort between two multi talented brothers. Built of Barnwood is based in the charming coastal town of Bay St Louis Mississippi. They are focusing on reclaiming, recycling and re-purposing vintage wood and building materials. Once reclaimed they are turned into usable artwork, home furnishing and design accent pieces. Together Bob Somerhalder and Ian Somerhalder strive for a greener more sustainable economy. With this green desire in mind, they have launched a clean and sustainable business that is a hot and trendy product line for home decor and furniture.
Do you recognize one of those names? Ian Somerhalder? Our favorite vampire on The Vampire Diaries. A very passionate soul when it comes to conservation and so is his brother Bob. (And the whole family too from what I have seen on Facebook.). When you purchase from BOB, you are supporting the IS Foundation because part of the proceeds go straight over there, where Ian and his team are striving to improve this world we live in for us and for everything else on this planet.
So, how do you win this red Ian cross?
Easy entry.
Just tell me your favorite way to recycle/upcyle things. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, it could be as simple as taking your cans to a recycling center or you may have done an elaborate project involving pallets, mason jars, and some cabinet handles. The sky is the limit.
There are a few other entries that aren’t mandatory, including donating to the IS Foundation. You do need to forward the email that you did that, but please feel free to delete any information that you feel is inappropriate for others to see. I just need the part that says $5 donation paid to IS Foundation.
To the FTC (wo)man: Greetings! This giveaway is sponsored solely by me. Built of Barnwood in no way asked me for nor reimbursed me for the prize, my words, my opinions, my thoughts. It is a prize I bought from a company I believe in.
Who has a steam cleaner? Who out there has wished that their steam cleaner was a steam mop? I know, I know, there is a Shark Steam Mop out there, but I actually hadn’t heard of it until recently.
I do know that I LOVE my steam cleaner. I use it every time I clean, especially in the kitchen. Nothing makes the faucet sparkle like cleaning it with steam does. Spill something on the stove while you’re cooking? No need to scrub, get out the steam cleaner, a blast of steam loosens it right up and you wipe it away.
I clean my kitchen chairs with my steam cleaner (I have a 20 month old and a 3 year old who get goopy sticky hands, then touch the chairs – a good zap with the steam cleaner every couple of weeks on top of wiping them down daily let’s me know they aren’t germ infested). I clean my couch with my steam cleaner (I have a leather couch now, but I used to use it on my microfiber couch also).
I have always wished that my steam cleaner had
a bigger water tank to go longer while cleaning
more attachments to get into hard to reach areas (cracks and crevices)
a mop option
The mop option was my biggest dream. You guys know I have 4 kids. Things get spilled in tiny out of the way spots and no one tells mom. I notice when it’s dry and hard to get off. I’ll get out my steamer and blast it. But, wouldn’t it be easier if it was a mop? Then I wouldn’t have to get down on all 4’s to clean those spots.
My dream came true on all fronts!
SWEET!
I was sent the Gruene Steam Cleaner/mop to try out. Like I said, I have owned other steam cleaners, but this one takes the prize. It has a MUCH bigger water tank than my old one does, which is so very awesome. I can get my whole couch done at once rather than doing a part of it, stopping to let the steamer cool down, refilling it, waiting for it to warm up, then starting the process all over again.
This one comes with so many more attachments than mine did. Seriously. Mine came with the window tool, 3 small brush heads, and a couple of the bent angle ones. That’s it.
Squeegee Hand Tool – Designed to make quick work of cleaning windows and mirrors.
Garment Hand Tool - Great for taking wrinkles out of clothes and curtains. It also works great for sanitizing matresses, Nylon Brush Set Includes three brushes to handle most of your cleaning needs.
Large Brush for wide coverage – Great for scrubbing tile and grout lines. Triangle and Detail head brushes for getting into tight spaces. Wire Brush Makes short work of cleaning golf clubs. Designed to take the elbow grease out of those really tough jobs.
Scraper Nozzle – Perfect for removing wallpaper. Seriously it cuts the job in half.
DirectJet Nozzle – Shoots out a jet of steam. Great for hard to reach areas.
Do you see that under the hose? Yes, that’s the scraper nozzle, it lets you get into cracks (like between the stove and the counter where grease can collect and it’s IMPOSSIBLE to get to. That alone would have sold me on it.
That it converts into a mop? I would have bought this one on my own.
A little from the company –
If it is floors you are tackling, simply fill the water tank, and seconds later steam is at your fingertips. Using steam means that you can toss out that bulky, messy, mop and bucket and trade it in for a better way to clean. Never again will you barricade the kitchen while you wait for floors to dry, when you use Gruene Steam the floors practically dry as you go. If you have children and pets you will love that Gruene Steam is chemical free system.
Perhaps one of the most unique and innovative features of the Gruene Steam Mop and Hand Cleaner is its ability to convert to a hand steamer. Unlock and remove the center section, and viola! The Gruene Steam Hand Steamer comes with 10 attachments. When attached to the hand steamer these tools make even the toughest jobs a breeze.
Take for instance the Garment attachment, this tool can be used to steam the wrinkles out of clothes, lift stains off mattresses, and even remove wallpaper. The small, large, and angled nylon brushes can be used for anything from removing stains and mildew from tile or grout to cleaning countertops and sinks.
Don’t forget, steam is nature’s disinfectant so when you use Gruene Steam you sanitize as you clean!
You guys know that I love anything that is chemical-free. (One of the reasons I clean with steam to begin with!) Not only do I have kids, I have birds. Their little respiratory systems can’t handle what ours can and lots of stinky smelly things can kill them. I’m always looking for things that make cleaning easier that is healthy for them and my kids.
So, the question is, does this work as well as my old steam? Enough so that I would be willing to give my old steamer to Goodwill or a shelter?
Let’s see! I let my kitchen floor go for a few days. I have 4 kids and while even my 11 year old is capable of making a mess, my 3 kids who are 6 and under, they can completely destroy the floor within 30 minutes of me washing it. I let them just be themselves for a few days, as much as it drove me crazy, when they spilled something, I let Katiana clean it up her way (dry towel, no soap, leaves a sticky mess for other dirt to collect to). I prayed during those days that no one, please God, don’t let anyone knock on my door. Especially anyone from the apartments. Egads!
No one knocked and all was set for the review.
It’s disgusting you guys. Let’s see if the Gruene Steam Cleaner/mop was able to clean it up quickly.
(Don’t mind the stain under my stove, it was there when we moved in, even with the steamer, I can’t get it up. And that is Alyce’s little mouse voice at the end.)
My thoughts? LOVE IT! Definitely will see if a shelter can use my trusty old steamer or donate it to good will. It still works, but I love this one so much more. The mop is so easy to set up, extremely easy to use, and works great! I’ve been using it daily since I did this video. I still use my other mop (the one with the reusable microfiber pad) to get in corners, under counters, under the stove, but for the majority of the cleaning of our linoleum floors, I’ve been using the Gruene Steam Cleaner/mop. It is incredibly easy to use, as you can see in the video, I’m holding the camera with one hand and running the mop with the other. No backaches, no breaking out in a sweat because it’s so much work. It is fabulous!
Since I’m using it as a mop daily, I also am using the steam cleaner part more than I did my old one.
I pulled my old one out for once a week deep cleaning. Now, I’m using this every day to just keep up on it rather than using a dish cloth. With all of the attachments, I’m going to it more often because I have better tools to clean different areas with. One thing I love to use the steam on is those pans that are under your burners on your stove. They can look clean, but a little invisible grease can turn into a burned on ugly mess after awhile.
I also love the steam cleaner for really getting in and disinfecting the bird cages, toys the kids have (I use it on their outside toys a lot to blast away dirt that has gotten stuck in crevices), the high chair, behind the faucet on the sink, the wall behind the sink, the toilets (around the hinges of the lid/seat), door knobs (especially in the wither when the flu is going around), there are so many places I use my steamer at.
It seriously is the one cleaning tool that I pull out the most.
I’ve even used steam to clean stains in the carpet before I clean the whole carpet with my carpet cleaner.
This is one of those cleaning tools that I think is worth the money. You literally can use it to clean everything and you get your money’s worth. I had my old steamer for 4 years and never had a problem with it. I envision this one being the same.
Keep an eye out on my mom’s blog. She will be reviewing it as a steamer soon! (I know it’s coming, I shot the video!)
Definitely gets a big humongous
for being a safe, chemical-free, green cleaning tool that in the long run saves you money
Detachable, 18 oz. cleaning solution bottle allows you to use and refill any solution you choose. Machine washable, scratch-free, deep cleaning pad provides a greener clean while saving you money. Self-powered solution sprayer with comfort fit trigger eliminates the need for batteries while letting you control how much solution you spray onto your floor.
I have one word to describe this – GENIUS! Seriously. I have my big plug in floor scrubber, which I love, but when the floor isn’t too bad, I have always wished I had something simpler than getting out the mop and bucket. I mean, if I’m going to go to that trouble, I’ll use the machine.
I won’t use the other brand that so many people use, you know the one with the bottle of cleaning solution and the throw away pads. I tried it a couple of times and for some reason, my floor felt sticky after using it. Plus, I use natural cleaners in the house because of the kids and the birds. Birds respiratory systems are different than other animals and so many things are bad for them, harsh cleaners, air fresheners, smelly candles, etc.
Do you know how excited I was to see this? You can fill the bottle with YOUR choice of solution. Myself, I clean the kitchen floor with water and vinegar. It doesn’t smell as nice as some cleaners, but it works just as well for what I need it to do.
Plus, no pads to have to keep buying! Let’s face it. With 4 kids (3 who are 6 and under), the kitchen floor gets messy all day long. Do you know how often I was buying the pads when I used the other one? A lot. With this, the 2 microfiber cleaning pads are perfect! One is washing while I’m using the other one. I’ve been hand washing mine because I use it so much. I have been filling it up with the vinegar and water each day and just using it as needed.
Even if I had to use my big machine, I would still pull this out. My big one doesn’t have attachments, so I can’t get under the counters easily. This slides right under the counter, right up against the table legs, under the fridge. LOVE IT!
The trigger spray (no batteries! Another plus) reminds me of a bottle of cleaner you would use to clean your windows. Squeeze the trigger, out sprays your cleaning solution. And it’s not a little squirt, it’s a nice wide spray.
Freedom to choose any cleaning solution you want to put in: Your favorite cleaner, plain water, environmentally friendly solution etc. Removable bottle for easy filling.
Freedom from costly and wasteful disposable pads- reusable microfiber pad can be machine washed up to 50 times. Safe on all flooring surfaces.
Freedom from batteries- trigger sprayer allows you to control how much liquid is coming out
Just grab and go, no heavy messy buckets to lug around
Quality manufactured in the USA (Arcola, IL) by a 4th generation family owned company.
Sold fully assembled in the mop and broom section of your favorite store
The Freedom Spray Mop will be available at retailers nationwide beginning August 2010 with a suggested retail price of $19.99 to $24.99.
Can you tell I love this? Totally gets a HUMONGOUS
for being an awesome alternative to cleaning your floor, for being simple, for being cheaper, and thank you thank you for not needing batteries! Do you know how often batteries disappear around our place?
So, you can see how excited I am.
Woot woot! I’m telling you, when you try this, you will absolutely LOVE it!
Thank you to Mom Bloggers Club and Libman for providing me with a Libman Freedom Spray Mop to review! Love love love love it!
Monica, the lovely lady behind the Little Looster asked me if I’d like to check out the potty booster. I, of course, jumped at the chance. I hate potty chairs. I mean, honestly, they are gross. I was throwing mine in the shower a few times a day and scrubbing it.
Alyce had a habit of going and not telling me. (Which would be fine if I didn’t have 4 kids, all of whom need a good eye on them to keep them out of trouble, I can’t watch Alyce every second to see when she is off to the potty. I was relying on her to tell me that her potty chair needed emptied out.)
I would only know if she’d gone when I went into the bathroom myself and checked her potty. Or when I heard Kat scream from the bathroom (don’t get sick on me here), MOM! Christian’s playing in Alyce’s potty and she poo’d! Christian follows everyone to the bathroom. He has to be where the action is. After 3 times of that happening (usually when I was cooking dinner, which I’d have to then turn off so that I could while retching throw my son in the shower) I told Alyce she wasn’t allowed to use the potty chair anymore, she had to use the big toilet. She didn’t want to. Monica just happened to contact me right at that point and tell me about the Little Looster. She rushed one off to me (I’m talking fast shipping) and it arrived very quickly.
Alyce was all excited! I’d shown her pictures of the Little Looster online, so she knew it was for her. She carried it to the bathroom. She put it in front of the toilet. Then she climbed up to use it. She loves it! And no one else is allowed to use her Little Looster. Which I think is funny because we just keep it in front of the toilet and now even Kat (whose 6) doesn’t have her feet dangling when she uses the toilet. She tells everyone in the bathroom that it is her Little Looster. Don’t touch my Little Looster.
Like they say, you don’t have to move it away from the toilet for adults to use. I’m 5’4” and have to um, spread a little wider when I sit, but it’s easy and doesn’t bother me at all.
I wish I had this when all of the kids had started potty training. So much easier. They can climb up on their own, no need to hang on to a germy toilet because there feet are planted and they feel stable and voila! No messy dirty germy disgusting potty chair to empty and clean 8 times a day. (Seriously, when a little one is sitting on a grown up toilet, how comfortable does it look when they are gripping on to the sides, hanging on for dear life and half falling in? This fixes that!)
I say Monica is a genius!
When it’s time to potty train Christiano, I’m going straight to this and bypassing the potty chair. It’ll probably still be there around the toilet when it comes time for him. He’s 15 months now and I don’t see us moving it for a very long time, since Kat enjoys the Little Looster in place at 6. It’ll be there until all little feet in this house touch the ground comfortably.
I haven’t pulled this out in awhile, but this so deserves a
for providing a cleaner better alternative to the potty chair!
Is that not gorgeous! It’s that beautiful in real life too!

Mission Oak Finish
Mission Styling

When we got it, I sat and gazed at the box until Pato came home. Tools + me = something getting damaged. I’m such a disappointment as a carpenter’s daughter, though my dad doesn’t seem to mind too much. Pato came home and put it together after I went to bed. When I got up in the morning I had that beautiful trunk in front of my couch. It’s solid, no light weight particle board (a la my last entertainment center that almost fell apart when you bumped against it). The finish is gorgeous Pato said it wasn’t hard to put together at all. The hard part was keeping Christiano (who always wakes up when Pato gets home) from “helping”.
Right now, Christiano and Alyce think it is their new bed. Every time I turn around they have opened it up, emptied it out, and replaced those items with a pillow and a blanket. (With the lid up of course.) I’ve been using it to store extra blankets that were just piled behind my bathroom door in my bedroom. In a 3 bedroom apartment you can’t have too many functional pieces that can be used for more than one thing.
I can’t see me ever moving it out of my living room because it’s a gorgeous piece that fits in well with our other furniture, but I can envision this at the bottom of a bed too, sitting there as a beautiful hope chest. (Do people still have hope chests? I always wanted one!)
A little about Southern Enterprises, a company that has been around for 33 years –
Southern Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) is a Dallas based family owned importer of home furnishings and decorative accessories.
If you have a moment, leave me a comment and tell me what you think about Southern Enterprises products, what would you love to have? They’d love to hear feedback from my blog readers!
I opened the box up, put it together (just a few snaps and it was all ready). Then I charged the battery for a few hours. I excitedly waited in anticipation. Surely this little vacuum couldn’t do what my big vacuum does. Actually, that’s not saying much, my big vacuum doesn’t work that great any more. And as I’ve posted before, the handle broke off and is duct taped together and the switch fell off – Pato rigged that together, but you get shocked if you touch it just in the right place as you turn it on. I’ll rephrase that first thought, surely this skinny little vacuum couldn’t do as good of a job as my big vacuum did when I first bought it.
Snapped the battery into place and off I went. It did a better job. I usually have to go over heavily crumbed areas (I have 4 kids) 3 to 5 times with my regular vacuum before all the stuff is picked up. Each strip was cleaned when I went over it the first time with the LiNX. Sweet!
Not only that, but there was no cord to hold up, no cord to flip over the vacuum cleaner, and I don’t have to worry about Jordan running over the cord, something he’s done many many many times when I ask him to vacuum.
Let me give you the stats on this vacuum -
The Hoover Platinum Collection™ Cordless Stick Vacuum combines cordless convenience with powerful upright performance. Includes Hoover’s best-in-class six year limited warranty on vacuum and two year limited warranty on battery and charger.
Upright Performance
Windtunnel Technology™ and cyclonic filtration combine to outperform traditional corded uprights on hard floors.*
Fade Free Lithium-Ion Power
Fade Free Power: Interchangeable 18 Volt Lithium Ion battery ensures the battery sustains power until it is completely drained.
Windtunnel Technology
First cordless stick vacuum with Hoover’s patented WindTunnel Technology™, which utilizes 3 suction tunnels to lift and remove even the hidden dirt on carpet.**
One Step Cleaning
One-touch Brushroll activation makes easy transition from hard floors to carpets.
Edge Cleaning Bristles allow for closer access to walls and corners.
Low Profile Base and Extreme Recline Handle allow for easy access under furniture.
Unique Wide Mouth Opening makes quick work of vacuuming cereal, pet food, etc.
Powered by an ENERGY STAR qualified battery charger.
When they say fade free power, they mean it. I’ve never had a problem with the suction getting weaker at all. I’m able to vacuum, my kitchen then flip the switch to carpet and move on to the living room, hallway, and my bedroom before the battery runs out. Actually, I might be able to do more, it’s just none of the other rooms are all cleaned at the same time, so I’ve never run out of power. I’ve gotten to the last battery light indicator though.
I would say if you vacuum the house all at once and you have a big house then investing in a second battery so you have one charged while the other charging would be a good investment.
When I’m going to clean the kitchen floor, I use the Hoover FloorMate to vacuum and scrub, but if I just want to do a quick sweeping of it, I grab the LiNX. It’s perfect for my living room with kids who are constantly dragging something or other across the floor, the LiNX is light, sits easily in my kitchen closet where it’s quickly accessible, and I just turn it on, and vacuum up the mess. No cord to unwind, no cord to rewind.
The only thing I use my big vacuum for now is for the attachments. Say there’s a cobweb up in the corner, then I’d get out my big vacuum, though the LiNX is light enough to lift over my head, I haven’t tried to get cobwebs with it. I also use my big vacuum to clean up the bird seed Huck throws out of his cage onto my entertainment center and the floor under it. I don’t know how he gets the seed under it, but somehow he manages.
I’m going to assume that that is what Hoover’s upright vacuums are for. Having attachments to clean up my parakeet’s seed and to get the spider webs out of the corners.
That’s all you do. Now, if Hoover could come out with a padlock adaptor to this, it would be great! It’s so easy to do, Nano has figured it out. He can empty that canister on my living room floor in about 10 seconds. (Hence, keeping it in the closet, I’m safe until he learns how to open doors.)
I’ve told you why this vacuum is perfect for me, I’ve thought of other people it is perfect for. Elderly people, for one. So light. So easy to move. No bending over to wind up the cord for bad backs. My grandpa, were he with us today would have loved this. I swear he lived for Saturday morning vacuuming.
Single people who don’t have kids making a mess. A couple of trips up and down the living room and you’re done in a flash.
Actually, I think it’s good for just about everyone.
You might want to know about emptying it too. Easy peasy!
Since it’s good for everyone, I might as well give one away to someone!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Hoover Floormate. Totally my new favorite house cleaning tool! My children have put this to the test many times since I got it. Everyday I use the vacuum part to do the basic cleaning of the floor and every other day I’ve been scrubbing the floor. The first day I used it (Pato beat me to it the first time period), the kitchen floor was bad. I mean bad. The night before not only had cereal been spilled on the floor (with milk – Alyce helped herself, Nano pulled it down, Kat used a towel to dry clean it up.) then Katiana spilled her entire glass of orange soda in another part of the kitchen – and cleaned it up with a dry towel. Then Jordan knocked over apple juice. At that point I was so tired I said, it’s dry at least, I’ll scrub it in the morning. In the morning it was sticky and gross and had dirt marks on it from where Pato dragged in snow and slush and crud. I got out the Hoover Floormate and went to work. First Jordan and I removed all the chairs, the high chair, garbage can, everything. Then I vacuumed the floor and it did really good. I was impressed because many hard floor vacuums I have tried spit stuff out back at you.
Then I followed the instructions and filled the top tank with water and the cleaning solution. Time to go. As I’m stick stick sticking across my floor. My floor was heavily soiled at this point. I had to go slow like a steam cleaner on your carpets but the Hoover Floormate made my floor clean enough that if I just hadn’t cleaned my floor, I would have eaten off the darn thing.
Normally when I use the mop and bucket method I have to do it twice. Once to scrub with PineSol and water, then I dump it out and start all over again. Mopping it all over with clean water. It still has a filmy feel to it and my floor seems to get dirty again really really fast. Not with the Hoover Floormate. First, can I tell you how amazing it was to scrub the whole thing and for it to be dry as I was going? Yep, it dries too. Just flip the switch over to dry, go over the wet part a couple of times, dry. Usually I have to pile chairs in front of the entryway because it’s a safety issue when you have kids and a wet floor. Both Alyce and Christiano fall right on their butt. Plus then I have to go over the floor again if someone makes footprints.
The Hoover Floormate took me about the same amount of time (with the floor being disgusting) as it does for me to mop twice because I was going really slow. On a normal day it takes me less time because I don’t have to go quite as slow getting sticky cereal milk off my kitchen floor. My back didn’t hurt when I was done. And it was clean clean clean. I felt good about Nano crawling across it. (He doesn’t crawl as a rule anymore, but he does chase his cars around the house on hands and knees.)
I’ve got linolium in my kitchen and both bathrooms (and Jordan is not very good in the bathroom if you get my drift). Jordan’s bathroom disgusts me with a mop. I’m afraid I’m going to touch the water. Ew. This helped out in there too. Jordan’s bathroom felt good to step on and smelled good too! Something I have to do a few times with a mop and a bucket and TONS of PineSol.

Let me start this review by saying, I received another brand of a product similar to this and Slanket wipes the floor with the competition – by far. I could not believe the difference. Slanket is thicker, bigger, and doesn’t cause static electricity in my hair. That last is hugely important. I hate static.
The girls are each wanting their own kids’ Slanket now because, as you’ll see in his review, Jordan doesn’t share very well when it comes to his.
I’ll tell you with mine, I love it. A couple of days ago I turned the heat down because it hasn’t been below freezing, at night it was still getting a little chilly for me. But, with the kids snug as bugs in a rug in their bed, warm and cozy under their blankets, I didn’t want to turn the heat up if I didn’t have to. Yo yo heating drives me crazy. If I turn it up at night then I’m sweating in the morning, then either crack the sliding glass door or just sweat until the temperature adjusts to the thermostat change. With the Slanket, I haven’t been turning the heat up at night. I just sit here in my computer chair after the kids are in bed, covered up, sitting, as my kids call it, criss cross apple sauce, warm and happy and blogging away.
It’s just as comfortable and warm as it looks and feels even better!
