Gift Idea: Clic-it Diaper Bag

Posted by Heather Manning On December - 7 - 2010

ClicIt-1

ClicIt-2 ClicIt-3

The Clic-It diaper bag would make the perfect gift for any mom with a little one, any mom to be, or any a mom of a toddler like me.  I hate cutesy diaper bags.  I love messenger bags, so first this style fits me to a T.  The idea behind is awesome!  Even with pockets, I tend to just throw everything into one pocket and it all gets jumbled together, leaving me to dig through the mess to find my keys, a pen, some lip gloss, etc.  The diapers are about the only things that are easy to find in my old diaper bag.

Clic-It is designed to make it easier for you to care for your baby on the go. Personalize the system to meet your daily needs – take only the accessories you need with you, and hang them in easy-access, convenient positions on your diaper bag.

The Clic-It quick release clip system gives you the flexibility to design the diaper bag that works for you.Learn more about Clic-It.

This is genius!  It has all these little parts that clic! on and off of it.  Since mine is almost 2, I use my extra bags for different uses than what they intended them to do, but it works out great.  I got the pacifier holder with mine, which actually holds my cell phone perfectly.

The diaper bag features -

The shoulder strap can come off and be used as a belt for when you don’t need the whole thing, you can clic a few different holders on to your belt and off you go.

You can also get:

to go with the Clic-It diaper bag.  Since Nano doesn’t take a bottle and never really has, I use the bottle holder as a make up case in the diaper bag.  I use the organizer pouch to hold my little wallet.  It’s a small one that just holds my atm cards and my driver’s license, plus I throw my dollar bills in there.  (Something I rarely carry any more.  I never have a dollar when I need cash.)

For me, I could stand for it to be a bit bigger.  Even though Nano is my toddler, I still keep toys and paper/notebooks, sometimes a change of clothes for the girls in my bag., a school folder for Jordan if he needs to do homework wherever we are going, etc for the girls in my bag.  It still works.  I just pack a little lighter than I used to, which is actually better for my back. :)

This is a bag that Pato doesn’t mind carrying either.  It’s not too girly looking for my big manly man to carry. He hates it when I use purse type bags when he has to take the kids somewhere. He’d rather taket he things out he needs and throw them into a grocery bag then carry a typical diaper bag.  He grabs this whenever they head out the door.  I always keep it packed so I don’t have to do it last minute.

All in all, excellent diaper bag with awesome features!  I would definitely recommend giving this to the new mom in your life!

mOmma Products For Baby

Posted by Heather Manning On August - 26 - 2010

I had never heard of mOmma products before.  When I opened up the box that arrived for us, I was so excited!  You see, I’m one who likes things that look cool.  These products look so sweet!  Very innovative in design and just tons of fun!  So much fun that my 6 and 3 year old said that it wasn’t fair that Nano got to use them.

Innovation, technology, movement and colors. mOmma is a revolutionary line of baby products that encourages baby to discover their surroundings with products that are unique in shape, movement and color, thus transforming each moment of your baby’s mealtime into a moment of growth, learning and pleasure.

We got to try out these cool looking baby feeding tools –

mOmma-1

mOmma rocking cup

mOmma-2

mOmma Sippy Cup

mOmma-3

mOmma soft spoon

mOmma-4

mOmma soft fork

mOmma-5

mOmma feeding plate

mOmma-6

mOmma wash brush

Aren’t those fun?  Here’s my thoughts on them.

I love that they are all BPA & Phthalate FREE!  I also love the shapes, ie:  the glasses.  Not only does the round shape look cool, but it keeps them from falling over.  When you have a little one, they are constantly knocking things over and sometimes even a sippy leaks.

Christiano loves the glasses!  The handles make them easy for him to carry and he totes them all over.  (I know, I shouldn’t let him carry a glass with him every where, but go easy on me.  I have 4 kids, if keeping a sippy with him makes him happy and a little less cranky, I’ll take it!)

He also seems to love the plate.  At least he gets it out of the dishwasher when it’s in there, choosing it over the other plates.  He hands it to me and babbles and points at the fridge.  Translation: Get Me Food!

The silverware, he hasn’t really taken too yet.  We have another set that he prefers, so I probably wouldn’t invest in more sets of these.  It might be that he is a toddler vs a baby and wants to use his ones that look like ours.  They usually get thrown over the high chair tray.

I love the wash brush!  It fits in the glasses perfectly.  I’m sure a regular bottle brush would suffice, but like I said, I like fun things.

All in all, I would definitely purchase more of the glasses and plates.  He loves them.

You can purchase products here on their website or you can purchase them on Amazon, my favorite place to shop online.

Now for the fun!  mOmma is having a messiest moments photo contest!

Little ones can sure make a big mess!  Send us a photo of your tot’s messiest mealtime moment for a chance to win a prize package of mOmma, the beloved line of Italian feeding products for infants and toddlers, for yourself and a friend (total value: $104.50).

I’ve got tons of messy baby pictures!  I’d love to win a set of the mOmma products!

You have until September 2nd to get those pictures in!

If I could enter, I’d enter this one!

CIMG0026

Side note:  I realize he’d pulled his arm out of his car seat strap.  He sits there and pulls that buckle down until he can wiggle an arm out.  I had stopped the car to fix it when I had turned around and saw that.  That is when I took the picture.

Side note 2:  Never give your child a dilly bar in the car.

Little Grips

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 27 - 2010

Who has a baby/toddler who hasn’t quite mastered silverware yet?

raising my own hand

Christiano wants so badly to use silverware like the rest of us, but he just can’t get it yet.  He tries and tries and tries some more.  Sometimes he gets lucky and gets something on his fork after stabbing 15 times (you know how easy it to pick things up with a plastic fork!).  Nothing stays on a spoon.  Nothing.  It gets flipped around, usually ending up down his chest or on the floor, unless he wings it as he is spinning it and it sticks to my refrigerator.  After a few tries, he ends up digging in with his fingers, which makes for a very messy baby.

I have found a genius invention!

littlegrips

You look at those and think, hmmmmm, that might work!  We’ll give it a try!

Let me let the company tell you a bit more about Little Grips first, then I’ll tell you how they worked for us.

An ergonomic design that takes advantage of a toddler’s stronger grasping and overall hand-movement skills, while still allowing them to learn proper feeding motions. You will see your child’s confidence build and messiness diminish.

  • A toddler utensil designed for toddler feeding
  • Comfortable non-slip grip that fits easily and naturally in your toddler’s palm
  • Toddler feeding that ends frustation and builds confidence
  • No-choke safety design with rounded edges
  • Made from durable, high quality plastic and stainless steel
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Only $10.95! plus shipping and handling

We got the package in the mail.  I opened them up, threw them in the dishwasher (cuz I still do that), and when it was suppertime I placed them on Christiano’s plate and sat back and watched.

He knew just want to do.  Picked the fork up, stabbed a piece of chicken, put it in his mouth.  He looked at me with surprise in his eyes, and said….if you follow my blog, you know what’s coming…..I did it!

Yes he did.  The moment couldn’t have been more perfect.

Now, he even gets in the silverware drawer to get out his spoon and fork when it’s not time to eat.  He brings them to me and points toward the kitchen.  He LOVES them.  I think we need another set because I’m having to hand wash these for lunch and dinner (usually I run the dishwasher once a day, after supper) so he can use them for all of his meals.

For those who are new visiting this post, Christiano just turned 16 months.

I think these are absolutely fabulous!  Who knew such a simple change in design to silverware could make such a big difference in whether he could do it on his own or not.

He still gets messy (what toddler doesn’t?), but seeing him become more independent is so much fun!  Plus, I get more time to enjoy my own meal.  He doesn’t get frustrated and it just makes meal time go a little smoother.

You can buy Little Grips at their website.  They are not available in stores, though I hope they are soon!  I’d love to be able to run and grab these for last minute gifts that I am always forgetting. (I am constantly being told, ohhhhh…so and so’s baby shower is tomorrow, I thought I told you!)   Plus, I would love more colors!  Blue, green, pink, purple, they’d even be so much fun in a rainbow pattern!

Verdict?

thumbsup

Huge thumbs up for helping Christiano master a task that he really wanted to do, but didn’t have the dexterity yet to do on his own.  Excellent excellent product!

Tadpoles Bedding Company

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 18 - 2010

We got to try a cute toddler bed set for Christiano from Tadpoles Bedding Company!  It was really really hard to choose. They have tons of cute styles!

tadpolesbed-2

Flannel Patchwork 5-piece Bedding Set

and if I had a girl in a toddler bed I would have totally picked this one

tadpolesbed-3

Daisy 4-piece Set

Alas, my girls are in twin bunk beds now, so being the soccer playing family that we are, we chose

tadpolesbed-4

Maisy The Soccer Star (They also have Queen Maisy!)

Maisy Toddler Sets – the 4-pc Maisy Queen bedding set in bright yellow with red accents for little girls and the Maisy Soccer Star in bright blue with red accents for little boys – will add pizzazz to any toddler’s room. The 4-piece sets include a fitted sheet, flat sheet, pillow case, and a warm coverlet filled with 100% polyester. Fits all standard crib and toddler size mattresses.

He loves it!  We unpacked it and made his bed.  He climbed right up and – well, he didn’t actually go to sleep.  He won’t go to sleep in his own bed, but he loves to lay on his pillow and he carries the comforter around the house.  If anyone dares touch his comforter a tug of war will break out.  Nano will scream bloody murder until his comforter is out of the offender’s hands and back in his own where it belongs.

We do lay him in his bed after he finally goes to sleep.

tadpolesbed-5

So cute!

It’s held up really well during washing.  No fading, no shrinking, fits on his bed like it was brand new.  I love it!

They have tons of things for the nursery:  Baby Bedding Sets, Toddler Bedding, Organic Bedding, Layettes, and Accessories, and other room decor!  They also have the cutest Moses Baskets!

**CLOSED** Munchie Mug

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 14 - 2010

Congrats to Nicole Greene!  I will be contacting you for your address!  Thank you to everyone who entered!

Have you heard of Munchie Mug?  If you haven’t and you have a toddler or preschooler or know someone who has a kid in those age groups, have I got a treat for you!

Munchie_Mug_Blue

That my friends is a Munchie Mug.

How can something so simple looking be so fabulous?  Let me tell you what it is.

Munchie Mug is a spill resistant snack time container.  It is my best friend.  I have 2 who are so good at spilling their snacks all over the place.  I can tell a huge difference between when Christiano is using the Munchie Mug and when he’s walking around with a bowl by the trail of whatever that is following him around the house.  With the Munchie Mug he can’t tip it over (his favorite game) and spill the contents all over the floor.  With Munchie Mug, I don’t find Gerber’s yogurt bites all over my car.  With the Munchie Mug, I don’t find Cheerios everywhere.  I simply adore the Munchie Mug.  So does Christiano.  Want to see?

IMG00124

Funny angle and my old cell phone pic, I know, but I didn’t have my camera with me.  He fell asleep with his hand in his Munchie Mug and I had to snap a pic for the review.  How sweet is that?

ETA – Someone asked me how Christiano did when we first got this with how young he is.  I forgot to mention that he was terrified at first, but I just kept adding his Gerber Yogurt Drops and once he realized the cup wouldn’t eat his hand, he loved it.  It took a couple of days. :)

Here’s some info from Munchie Mug themselves -

Munchie Mug is 100% proudly made in America with safety in mind. Made of tough, durable, and recyclable No. 5 polypropylene from American suppliers, the plastic and color additives are approved for direct food contact according to FDA 21 CFR, sections 177.1520 and 170.39. Munchie Mug comes with a 16 oz. plastic jar that effectively holds 10 oz. of dry foodstuffs and is suitable for children 10 months and older. The unique patent pending lid screws on tight, assuring that it stays on and the food stays in.

The Munchie Mug has been field tested for over a year, and has held up well to the satisfaction of its users. The tough, durable, fabric will undergo wear typical of fabrics, but this will not impair the function of the Munchie Mug.

Know what else makes me love Munchie Mug?  It’s dishwasher safe on the top shelf.  Plus it’s made from 100% recycled material and eliminates waste made by plastic baggies!  Winner!

Check out some of the other testimonials about Munchie Mug.

You want one don’t you?  You want your own Munchie Mug, I know it!

First, you can purchase one here, which I highly recommend because having 2 or more Munchie Mugs for while you are washing the other one is not a bad thing, it’s a very very good thing!

    Little Looster

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 9 - 2010

LittleLooster Monica, the lovely lady behind the Little Looster asked me if I’d like to check out the potty booster.  I, of course, jumped at the chance.  I hate potty chairs.  I mean, honestly, they are gross.  I was throwing mine in the shower a few times a day and scrubbing it.

Alyce had a habit of going and not telling me.  (Which would be fine if I didn’t have 4 kids, all of whom need a good eye on them to keep them out of trouble, I can’t watch Alyce every second to see when she is off to the potty.  I was relying on her to tell me that her potty chair needed emptied out.)

I would only know if she’d gone when I went into the bathroom myself and checked her potty.  Or when I heard Kat scream from the bathroom (don’t get sick on me here), MOM!  Christian’s playing in Alyce’s potty and she poo’d!  Christian follows everyone to the bathroom.  He has to be where the action is.  After 3 times of that happening (usually when I was cooking dinner, which I’d have to then turn off so that I could while retching throw my son in the shower) I told Alyce she wasn’t allowed to use the potty chair anymore, she had to use the big toilet.  She didn’t want to.  Monica just happened to contact me right at that point and tell me about the Little Looster.  She rushed one off to me (I’m talking fast shipping) and it arrived very quickly.

Alyce was all excited!  I’d shown her pictures of the Little Looster online, so she knew it was for her.  She carried it to the bathroom.  She put it in front of the toilet.  Then she climbed up to use it.  She loves it!  And no one else is allowed to use her Little Looster.  Which I think is funny because we just keep it in front of the toilet and now even Kat (whose 6) doesn’t have her feet dangling when she uses the toilet.  She tells everyone in the bathroom that it is her Little Looster.  Don’t touch my Little Looster

Like they say, you don’t have to move it away from the toilet for adults to use.  I’m 5’4” and have to um, spread a little wider when I sit, but it’s easy and doesn’t bother me at all.

I wish I had this when all of the kids had started potty training.  So much easier.  They can climb up on their own, no need to hang on to a germy toilet because there feet are planted and they feel stable and voila!  No messy dirty germy disgusting potty chair to empty and clean 8 times a day.  (Seriously, when a little one is sitting on a grown up toilet, how comfortable does it look when they are gripping on to the sides, hanging on for dear life and half falling in?  This fixes that!)

I say Monica is a genius!

When it’s time to potty train Christiano, I’m going straight to this and bypassing the potty chair.  It’ll probably still be there around the toilet when it comes time for him.  He’s 15 months now and I don’t see us moving it for a very long time, since Kat enjoys the Little Looster in place at 6.  It’ll be there until all little feet in this house touch the ground comfortably.

I haven’t pulled this out in awhile, but this so deserves a

for providing a cleaner better alternative to the potty chair!

Check out the Little Looster.  You can also follow them on Twitter and keep up with their giveaways!

    Ergobaby Baby Carrier

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 28 - 2010

Did you read my post awhile back about dangerous vs safe baby carriers?  I have found a wonderful safe carrier that I am loving!  Christiano is getting heavy enough that the ring sling pulls on my back and shoulders now.  He is 14 months old and 27 lbs but still wants to be carried a lot.  Plus there’s those moments that he doesn’t want to stay right with us when we’re walking.  It’s a lot easier on my back to have him in a carrier so I have my other 2 hands free to hold Kat and Alyce’s hands also.  Without the carrier Jordan is being put in charge of one other child so that I can keep my hands on 2 of them.

My girls are usually really good at staying right beside me, but at 3 and 6, they still can get distracted at times. (Read that as, run quickly in front of me to beat their siblings to the car.  I don’t want Jordan to feel responsible if one of the girls wrenches free of his hand because they don’t listen to him like they do me.)

I was on the lookout for a new carrier that would be good for my back with Christiano.  In steps in Ergobaby.  They sent me their Black ERGObaby Sport Carrier to try out.  I actually found them through another blogger who was showing some really cute pictures of herself carrying her toddler in back and her baby in front….at the same time!  That’s coordination.  In her comments she replied to someone else telling them that Ergobaby is the best carrier for carrying toddlers.

    ergobaby-2

    And there it is.

Saturday I took it with us to soccer to try out with Christiano.  Pato helped me get into the first time because I wanted to make sure the straps were tight enough.  You can carry the on the back, hip, or as I do, in the front.  I’m just more comfortable carrying them up front where I can see them.  I always have been like that with all 4 kids.

First person who laughs at my royally wind blow hair will be shown to the door. :) My bangs were shooting straight up.

    ergobaby

Let’s start this out with, I’m a full figured mama.  I don’t like my body, but it’s what I’ve got right now.  I wear a size 16 pants but the chest area is what gets me.  I had a reduction back when Jordan was 1.  I was a 36B.  After nursing 3 more children, I’m a 38D, pushing a DD.  Why is it important that I share my TMI information?  Because the carrier fits me.  Comfortably.  The straps come folded up so that they’d fit someone smaller in size than I am.  I thought, oh crud, this is never going to fit me.  I’m going to have to apologize for being to big and send it back.  Then I unfolded the straps and there’s room to spare!

The test was trying to wear a 27 lb baby on me during a whole soccer game.  Kat’s games run about 45 minutes.  I’ve tried holding Christiano standing up at games before and my back and arms burn so badly that I have to put him down.  Then he tries to join the game because you know that ball out there they are kicking around is on the field just to tease him.

After about 20 minutes I turned to Pato and said, you have got to try this.  No pain.  None.  He nodded at me.  He was waiting for me to hand Christiano over and tell him my arms and back were killing me.

    Didn’t happen.

Christiano didn’t even squirm for a long time.  In fact for a little while he laid like this on me –

    April2010-39

Note, bangs are down, the rest of my hair is blowing sideways.  Should I note here that I am wearing Pato’s huge sunglasses?  My new contacts dry out really bad in the wind and his cover my face so the wind doesn’t get in. :)

About 10 minutes before the game was over he wanted down.  I let him down and didn’t even need to stretch out my back.  It was awesome!

I was so excited for Sunday’s game and to be able to use it again.  It rained.  And Christiano fell asleep in the car.  And the other team forgot their player cards.  Our team won by default.  I was kind of bummed.  Don’t tell Jordan.

Here are the features on the standard carrier I got –

    • Waist belt extends an additional 5 inches from 30 inches to a maximum of 48 inches
    • Shoulder straps extend an additional 4 inches compared to our Standard carrier (to 27")
    • Sleeping hood is detachable, and can be stored in carrier pocket
    • Zippered pocket replaced by pocket with easy Velcro closure for sleeping hood storage
    • 400 threads per inch cotton poplin lining and hood
    • Body of carrier is 35% cotton and 65% polyester
    • One inch, high density foam in shoulder straps
    • Quarter inch high density neoprene foam in waist belt
    • High Quality buckles tested by SGS
    • High quality webbing, matched to carrier color
    • Reinforcement stitching used at all fabric intersections
    • Interior rip-stop reinforcements at critical intersections
    • Machine washable – cold, gentle cycles, mild detergent, no bleach. Dry in low heat

The only thing that didn’t work for us that the features mentioned is the sleeping hood.  I couldn’t get that to extend over Nano’s head, but that might be more for the little bitty babies.

They even have organic carriers for my eco-minded fellow mommies!

If your little one is 4 months or less, you’ll want to get the infant insert to cradle their neck and head.  So see, this carrier isn’t just for carrying those heavy babies, like mine, around.  It is good for newborns and up!  No wasting money on carriers as they get bigger.  This one will last from newborn on up to the recommended 40 lbs and possibly above.  My 3 year old is only 35 lbs.  I could carry her in it if I so chose.  I’m actually tempted just to try it and see how she fits!  Kind of like I want to also see Pato use it.  He’s never tried any of my carriers before.  He has been complaining lately after a few minutes of carrying Christiano around the store that his arms are starting to burn.  That coming from my big strong 6’2” 230 lb husband.

Over on their website they have lots of information including their FAQs, instructions on how to use it, research, certifications, endorsements, and media, ask the DR., a photo gallery with parents showing how they use the Ergobaby, other parenting resources, and much more!  I’ve spent a lot of time going through the website and it’s so much more than just selling baby carriers, back packs, front pouches, changing pads, and sucking pads.  It’s just full of information for parents!

Can you tell how thrilled I am with the Ergobaby carrier?  I am so excited to go grocery shopping, to the mall, anywhere that I would normally use a cart or the stroller for Christiano.  It doesn’t take long before he is screaming to get down from them.  Pato lets him walk when they are in the store.  That’s a bad thing.  I’m telling you.  He thinks he has to walk everywhere now and the last thing I want to do is pick up everything he has knocked off the bottom shelf at Hy-Vee while I’m shopping.  He’s happy being carried.  Before I couldn’t do it for that long so it was a battle between the cart and my arms.  If I can stand at a soccer game with him for that long without hurting, I can get through the grocery store with him in it also!

I haven’t done this in awhile, because honestly, I forgot I had it. :)   But in light of this carrier, I think it’s time to bust out the big huge –

    thumbsup

It allows me to carry Christiano and keep him safe without straining my back and arms, leaving my hands free to hold my 3 and 6 year olds hands while crossing parking lots.  No one trying to dart away from me!  Love it!

Absolute best carrier I have ever used in my 11 years of having children!  Hands down.

To start off the Double Birthday Bonanza, I’m going with Kool Kids Legs!  I love these!  Christiano seems to love his (whenever he sees one in a basket he grabs it and puts it around his neck, not quite that’s what Mama Runs With Scissors had in mind I bet, but it works.) Alyce loves hers.  She gets mad when we put them in the basket because they need washed.

Now who thought that leg warmers would ever come back in?  I didn’t.  I’m seeing them EVERYWHERE and they are so stinking cute on little kids.  Heck, I even want a pair. Mama Runs With Scissors has things that match her Kool Kids Legs which I think is so cute!  You have to see the sets.

Before I show you my kids in them, let me show you some of Mama Runs With Scissors work in her Etsy shop because a) her stuff is so cute! b) she has better pictures than I do. (hint to the Easter bunny – mama wants a DSLR.  That isn’t happening I’m sure.)

    Her prices are awesome too!

1 pair of Kool Kids Legs in the 14″ – $8.00

    2 pairs “                                   ” – $15.00

    3 pairs “                                   ” – $21.75

so many patterns, so many colors to choose from. I <3 them and Mama Runs With Scissors shop.

On the washing front, we have washed these many many times since we got them, no fading, they haven’t shrunk or stretched out, they still fit perfectly!

Let me show you my little munchkins in their Kool Kids Legs -

Nano – one thing I love these for besides the obvious, is that Christiano has really dry skin.  You know how you put lotion on your feet and put socks on them?  Well, I do the same thing with Christiano and the Kool Kids Legs.  It keeps the lotion on his legs after bath longer.  Gives it more of a chance to soak in and he feels all smooth.

We’ve used them under so many t-shirts this way.  He has a lot of cute ones, but it’s winter in Iowa.  Now he can wear them!

Not quite sure about this smile, but the rest works!

And a tada! Cuz she loves them.

Aren’t they cute? (The Kool Kids Legs AND my kids of course. :) )

Go check out Mama Runs With Scissors at Etsy!  She has some fabulous stuff and as you can see, the Kool Kids Legs are not just for little girls!  You’ll see she has them also in XS, just for babies, and XL, perfect for teens and adults, which means, I just might get myself a pair! I’ve got to point out that in almost every review I have read on leg warmers, when they are being reviewed on a small baby I always see, I wish they were a little smaller, but they will grow into them. Mama Runs With Scissors takes care of that problem with her XS size!)

    This gets a big

    thumbsup

for the fun aspect, because you have to admit these are so much fun!, for the keeping of the little legs warm, for extending the use of T-shirts into the winter, and for keeping that lotion on Nano’s legs, making him soft! I bet Mama Runs With Scissors never thought she’d get that in a review! :)

And now, Mama Runs With Scissors is offering 2 of my readers each a pair of their own Kool Kids Legs!
