Alyce had a workshop during Christmas break and I was so proud of her.  It was a contemporary lyrical workshop with lots of improv.  Improv is where she struggles.  She just turned 9 in December and it’s hard to dance like no one is watching as an adult.  She had a bit of a breakthrough.  She is in the pink shirt in the video below.

Here is the whole dance they did.. Starts with improv then choreography, then ends with improv. This was Michaela's workshop. I love when she takes classes that focus a lot on improv. It breaks her out of her comfort zone and she seems to learn a lot more in a short period of time. Ehyzar Ayala Kathy Scoular Manning

She also did the Nutcracker back in December with the Iowa Dance Theater.  She got to dance on the Civic Center stage and again, I was so proud of her!  She was amazing, as was the entire cast! It was so neat to see her dance on the stage that I used to perform my recitals on when I was in dance.  She is already planning on working hard so she can be Clara when she gets older.

She had an amazing year of dance last year and was able to do just about everything she wanted to do.  Now we are ready for competition season to swing into full gear.  This year she is on the competition youth jazz, tap, and hip hop teams, and also on the production team.  I’m so excited for her!
