All I Want For Christmas Is You By Jessica Scott
An all new novella about a woman who came back from war changed and the man who loves her enough not to let her go.
All Major Patrick MacLean wanted was Christmas with the woman and child who were his family in everything but name. But Captain Samantha Egan has come back from the war a different woman than the one who left – and she doesn’t know if she can love him anymore.
But neither of them counted on the determination of a little girl they both call daughter and if Natalie has her wish, her parents may have no idea what’s coming for them. It’s going to take Christmas miracle to bring these two wounded warriors back from the edge of a broken heart.
I really enjoyed All I Want For Christmas Is You. This is a sweet novella that left with a smile on my face.
One thing I really liked about this book is that it isn’t a story about breaking up, moving on, finding your soul mate. This is a book about holding on to love even when it feels broken, about working through your problems, about being there for someone you love.
I haven’t read a lot of stories about women who come back from war and how it has affected them, it’s always the guys who have their women waiting at home for them to return and then they have to work through their struggles, their memories of their time in a war torn place. In All I Want For Christmas Is You, yes, Patrick has been overseas, and he had his struggles, but this book about is about how Samantha has come back from war is having trouble adjusting.
Their daughter Natalie wants them back together as a family and wants her mom to be happy. She is who is determined to make this work even when her parents have either given up or accepted that this was how it was now.
Such a touching story! It’s perfect for a quick read, sitting by a window as the snow comes down (though it hasn’t come down much in Iowa yet, not complaining) and you are taking a little break from whatever holiday madness you need to do.
Thank you so much for my copy of All I Want For Christmas.
4 stars and I would definitely read more of Jessica’s books!
USA TODAY Bestselling author Jessica Scott is a career army officer, mother of two daughters, three cats and three dogs, wife to a career NCO and wrangler of all things stuffed and fluffy. She is a terrible cook and even worse housekeeper, but she’s a pretty good shot with her assigned weapon and someone liked some of the stuff she wrote. Somehow, her children are pretty well adjusted and her husband still loves her, despite burned water and a messy house.
She’s written for the New York Times At War Blog, PBS Point of View Regarding War, and IAVA. She deployed to Iraq in 2009 as part of OIF/New Dawn and is currently a company commander stationed at Fort Hood.
Most recently, she’s been featured as one of Esquire Magazine’s Americans of the Year for 2012.
