Gift cards are how I keep track of how much I spend on books a month. If I added $20 to my gift card, once that balance is gone, I am done buying books for the month.

I was reading this post over at Fangs, Wands, and Fairies: Do You Have Any Superstitions? Paranormal 101 and I got to thinking as I commented about all the things I do and don’t do revolving superstitions.

I never realized how many there were that I do and how many I intentionally break. Seriously.  On purpose.

I would totally cross his path (©trdesignr)

Things I know I do –

  • Cross the path of black cats cuz I love black cats.
  • Consider 13 to be my favorite number, I don’t think it’s unlucky at all.
  • I look forward to Friday the 13th.
  • I think rabbit’s feet (or any other dead animal part you might carry) are disgusting.
  • I don’t own any lucky talisman, socks, or sweat bands (like sports players do).

Superstitions I hold true to without even thinking about it:

  • I would NEVER ever walk under a ladder. (I’m a carpenter’s daughter, it’s been drilled into me that isn’t safe.)
  • I throw salt over my shoulder when I’m cooking (no logical reason).
  • I am not a fan of breaking mirrors (why risk it?).
  • I always pick up pennies while saying “find a penny pick it up…”
  • I believe that bad things (bad luck) comes in 3s, especially when it comes to death.
  • I knock on wood.
  • I cross my fingers.
  • I freak out on my kids when they open an umbrella in the house.
  • I can tell the lunar calendar by my children’s behavior (full moon – naughty kids).
  • Kisses at 12 AM New Year’s Day have been done since I was old enough to kiss a boy.
  • I will always pick any 4 leaf clover I find and save it.
  • I blow out my birthday candles.
  • I refer to my cats’ 9 lives, especially Elaina.
  • Speaking of kisses, I’ve been kissed under the mistletoe.
  • I’ve said someone is walking over my grave when I get the shivers out of nowhere.
  • When my ear itches I always someone is talking about me – I never remember which ear is good or bad.
  • I try to avoid walking on cracks when it pops in my head. My mom’s back is bad enough as it is.
  • I say “God Bless You” when someone sneezes.
  • I’ve made a wish on a penny thrown in a wishing well.
  • Black crows freak me out.  They mean death is coming.
  • I’ve made plenty of wishes on stars.

Those are just the ones I can think of that I do without giving it a second thought or thinking about it being superstitious.

What about you?  You have to do at least a few on that list.  I know there are certain foods some eat on New Year’s Eve to bring good luck.  I’ve never followed that one.  There has to be something in your family that you do without even realizing it’s superstitious.

Head on over and check out the post that inspired this one.

Have a wonderful day!

Thanks for linking to my post. I believe bad things happen in 3s too. Great list!
