I grew up in the town we live in, but back then it was so much smaller.
To give you an idea of how much it has grown, I graduated in 1993 with 60 some kids in my class. My daughter, Alyce, right now a kindergartener, has 762 in her class.
Seven hundred more kids in one class in 20 years.
Crazy.
I miss that time back when so much more of our town was the picture you see above. Now in place of the woods and fields we have strip malls, apartment buildings, new housing, new schools, the convenience of having everything you need right there is great, the demolition of that beautiful scenery above is horrible.
I miss my town the way it used to be. When everyone knew everyone, I could ride my bike from one end to the other and my mom wasn’t worried about traffic or creeps, and when the cop who gave me my first ticket had to be begged not to tell my dad because…….everyone knew everyone.
So many of my sentences I say to my kids while driving through town begin with, “When I was young that used to be…”.
Progress.
What can you do?

This is the same thing with my little city too. There used to be tons of areas like this that have all been cleared out to make way for subdivisions mostly.
Thankfully the city still does have parks and areas that are being preserved and will never be built on, but it’s still weird watching it grow like this.
