Dannon Activia Selects Yogurt – Cups Of Hope

New-Activia-Selects-Yogurt

New styles of yogurt that let you enjoy unique and delicious taste experiences! New Activia Selects brings you great tasting, cultural recipes plus everything you already love about Activia.

So this review was supposed to be up a few days ago.  Boy do I have a good reason for why it isn’t.

Every time I bought the Activia Selects yogurt, it would disappear before I had a chance to eat it.

Seriously.

It didn’t matter where I hid it in the fridge.

Gone.

No one would admit to it either.

How am I supposed to review something if it’s not there to try and my children will not tell me who ate it.

I bought both Activia Selects French yogurt in cherry and Activia Select Greek nonfat yogurt in blueberry today.

I sat down and ate them both.

Not kidding.

I was not about to have it disappear on me again.

That should tell you how good it is.

I can’t keep it in my fridge.

This was something I thought would be amazing for me, I LOVE yogurt.  And it has this added benefit:

On top of being incredibly delicious, Activia® Selects contain the unique probiotic culture Bifidus Regularis® (Bifidobacterium lactis DN 173 010) that helps to naturally regulate your digestive system, when consumed daily for two weeks as part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

I’m going to put a safe in my fridge and lock it just for my yogurt.

I’ve never had anything but the kids’ yogurt disappear that fast.  They like all yogurts but I never have to worry about not getting any.

Now I do.

I am so busy in the mornings getting 3 kids off to 3 different schools that I don’t have time to sit and eat breakfast, not to mention I am trying to lose more weight, so though I know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I don’t like a big one.

This is perfect.

If my kids would leave it be.

My thoughts, I liked the Greek, but it was a little thicker than I normally like my yogurt.  Would I buy it again?  Yes, but not if the French was available.  That wasn’t really like eating yogurt at all.  The French was smooth, not too thick, the cherry was so good.  Loved it!  And I love the benefits of it when consumed daily for two weeks as part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

Maybe I shouldn’t have eaten them one right after the other, but people, this had to be done.  I had to try it out for myself.

They are also standing for something amazing!

Cups Of Hope

It is the long standing mission of National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. to increase awareness through education, provide diagnostic breast care services for those in need and offer nurturing support services to save lives through early detection. Dannon is committed to helping people lead a healthy lifestyle through our line of fresh cultured dairy products. Together, Dannon hopes to rally a community around this cause and give up to $1.5 million to National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. (with a guaranteed minimum donation of $500,000, including retailer-specific programs). This donation should provide the equivalent of 150,000 women served through free or low cost mammograms, ultrasounds and various forms of early detection and support after diagnosis.

Each cup has a code on it.

For each under-the-lid code from specially marked packages of Dannon yogurt entered at www.cupsofhope.com before November 30, 2010, NBCF will receive a 10 cent donation from Dannon – up to $1.5 million, with a guaranteed $500,000 minimum donation, including retailer-specific programs.  There is no need to mail in lids, as Dannon shoppers can just peel off the lid of the product and enter the code, found underneath, at CupsOfHope.com.

I have to go find the lid for my cherry.  I almost didn’t get that one either.  I stopped my 2 year old mid-finger-scoop after turning my back to put the last of the groceries into the cupboard.

The blueberry under-the-lid code was safe.

Activia Selects are getting a big huge

thumbsup

because I couldn’t keep it from my children.  Something nutritious?  That they loved to eat?  That I also love?  Very rarely found.  This is a keeper!

Lice – What do you do?

Posted by Heather Manning On October - 13 - 2011

I saw a note at one of my children’s school that said in big letters –

YOUR CHILD HAS BEEN EXPOSED TO LICE

Is your head itching now too?

I’ve been lucky so far.  4 kids, the oldest turning 13 in February and not one has brought lice home.

knocking on wood

head lice

Ew

Head lice are wingless insects spending their entire life on human scalp and feeding exclusively on human blood.[1] Humans and chimpanzees are the only known hosts of this specific parasite, but many other species of lice, which infest most orders of mammals and also birds, are known. Thank you Wikipedia.

Nits

Thank you hairnits

K, now that we all want to vomit, let’s move on. I’m sure we needed those references – I did actually, I’ve never seen a nit.  Or a louse/lice/whatever form it takes.  Either way … Gross.

Of course, noid Heather gets on the phone with the nurses at my other kids’ schools.  One of the nurses told me that it is going around everywhere, though no incidences have been reported at that school.

I asked both nurses to pull my kids out of class and check their hair.  I don’t want to be responsible for knowingly sending me kid to school with head lice after one has been exposed to it.

I remember when we were younger, if one of us got it, all 4 of us got it, mom got it, I don’t remember dad getting it.  I always had the longest hair (down to my waist in high school).  My mom would stand me there for what seemed like forever brushing through my hair.

My brothers were easy.

Shave their head – problem solved.

Nobody is shaving my head.  Ever.  Or my girls.

I’m dreading Katiana coming home and telling me they found lice on her.

katshairIt’s blurry because I cropped in on Kat’s hair, but that’s one of the few recent pictures I have of the back of her head.  Her hair is to her waist.  Can you imagine going through that?

Her nurse just emailed me back and told me there was no signs of lice in Kat’s hair but to keep checking.

So, what do you do if you find lice in your house?

Don’t even want to think about it do you?  Neither do I.

There’s the old standby of RID (which I think is the recommended treatment still)

Rid

At least the lice comb comes in a pretty pink, remember the old style?

I’m not huge on pesticides on my kids’ heads and I think I personally would try one of the more natural methods first.

Tea tree oil (this is helpful for kids with special needs who can’t use these products on their head).  There is shampoo with tea tree oil in it or combine it with a smothering technique.  I definitely wouldn’t use one of the smothering techniques and expect it to kill the lice on it’s own.  That has been shown not to be 100% effective.  Tea tree oil rocks for everything.  I keep it in my house for everything.  Literally everything.  Ear infection?  Put a couple of drops on a cotton ball, put it in your ear.  If I catch my ear hurting before it explodes into a huge infection, this method stops it from getting worse.  It’s a good antiseptic for cuts and scratches.  It even is good for cleaning.  I’ve heard about using it to keep bugs away and I’ve heard this treatment works great.  Using a shampoo with tea tree oil will prevent getting lice in the first place (from what I have heard) AND the added benefit of preventing dandruff too.  Win win!

Vaseline, olive oil, mayonnaise and the like.  Like I said, I wouldn’t rely on this method on it’s own.  BUT that being said, my niece had lice once and my SIL used this to immobilize the bugs so she could pick them out.  She smothered my niece’s hair in Vaseline, wrapped it in the shower cap for a bit, then went through and picked them out, they weren’t moving, much easier to deal with – if you can get through the Vaseline.  Washing the hair with Dawn (cuts through grease) may help you wash the Vaseline out of the hair.

I’ve also heard you can try Listerine Antiseptic Mouthwash on wet hair.  The treatment for this is to cover the face, ears, neck so you don’t get Listerine on the skin.  Put Listerine in a spray bottle, lift up sections of hair and saturate them roots to tip.  Put a shower cap on, let sit for 2 hours, and comb through the hair removing nits and dead bugs.

Onion – Yep, heard this too.  Grind a fresh onion and spread the juice into hair (scalp also), the sulfur in it kills head lice.  Leave it on for a few hours with a shower cap.  Wash your hair really good (can you imagine smelling like that on a date?) and repeat for a few days until nits are gone.

Make sure with all of these treatments you are using a lice comb to comb through the hair.  The one with the best reviews I found on Amazon is this one –

nitcomb

Nit Free Terminator Lice Comb

Dr Greene, also speaks of this treatment –

The Packard Children’s Health Services Pediatric Hotline at Stanford is hailing another popular treatment. It uses regular shampoo and three ingredients that can be found at most health-food stores:

Shampoo
3 tbsp olive oil.
1 tsp tea tree oil.
1 tsp rosemary or eucalyptus oil.

Add the oils to a small amount of shampoo and mix well. Work into hair and leave on for half an hour with a tight-fitting shower cap. This mixture has a strong smell. The fumes may burn the eyes, so don’t lean forward. Wash hair two or three times to get the oil out. Repeat the procedure if necessary.

Non hair items:

  • Every surface in your home and car that has touched a head, or has touched an object that has touched a head must be deloused.
  • All clothes need to be washed in hot water and dried in a hot drier. (Even your clean clothes need rewashed.)
  • Wash all bed clothing (bedspreads, pillows, mattress covers).  You can also iron with a hot iron to kill nits.
  • Things that can’t be washed – double bag them in black plastic bags, seal them completely, and store them for 3 days.
  • Wash your combs and brushes in rubbing alcohol (soaking them for a bit works best, then thoroughly wash them).
  • Steam clean (if you can) or vacuum all of your carpets, under furniture, everywhere.

The school nurse also told me about Natroba, which I hadn’t heard of.  She said if her kids come home with it, she is going to ask her doctor for that.

Natroba™ (spinosad) Topical Suspension, 0.9% is a light orange, slightly opaque, viscous liquid, topical prescription medication that is applied to dry hair and scalp by starting at the scalp and working toward the ends of the hair. Natroba™ is available by prescription in a 4 oz. (120 ml) bottle. Only the amount needed to cover the scalp and hair is used. Once applied, Natroba™ should be left on for 10 minutes and then thoroughly rinsed away with warm water. Nit combing is not required with Natroba™.

There you have all the things I know about the nasty little boogers.  Now that I have been typing this up, my head itches.  Think Christiano will check me?

He’ll at least play with my hair.

Have a great day!

P.S.  Since my blog has been down today and I couldn’t post this, I can safely say that all my children are lice free.  YAY!

Some Nail Art Manicures I did

Posted by Heather Manning On October - 13 - 2011

I am in no way as talented as Diana over at Painted Lady Fingers is, but she inspires me all the time to get out my brushes and paint from time to time.

Lucky me, I also have 2 girls who adore have their nails done.

Here’s a few designs I have done recently that I haven’t shared and thought I would after yesterday’s post about my very naughty two year old.

Don’t judge.  I don’t clean the sides of my nails up as well as she does.

Just remember I have 4 kids that are always into something, as you know from the post you just peaked at.  I’m lucky to get a coat of polish on.

My ladybug scene complete with clouds.

Leece has the flowers, Kat has the fishes – with spouts of water, I’m thinking that makes them whales.

My funky little flowers

I’ve done so many more and I am wishing I had taken pictures, noted supplies etc, but I didn’t.  I’ll start.

I can say, most of my bases are OPI, the art is done with LA colors usually because I hate cleaning my brushes and theirs come with a brush that is decent for painting with, and then rhinestones.  Love rhinestones.  I always stock up on those on Ebay.

Click this link, you’ll find tons on Ebay.

And I got a decent price on my nail brush set.  Here’s a link for that on Ebay.

I’m not a manicurist, just a SAHM trying to get back to who I am inside – a fun loving nail painting kinda hippy/boho chica who LOVES fashion, I don’t need expensive brushes.  Not to do my own or my 4 and 7 year old’s nails.

Have a great day!
