The Middle: Too Much To Do At Once

Posted by Heather Manning On September - 9 - 2011

3294be196e_The Middle S2 The Heck’s have their son Axl in football and daughter Sue in cross country. They try their best to attent their children’s events but often disagree on which event they want to attend. Has this ever happened to you and your family, or have too many events and too little time? How did you resolve it?

I swear, that question describes my life perfectly half of the year.  I had 2 kids in soccer up until this season, now I have 3, and just wait, Christiano will definitely be playing soccer.  It’s his favorite thing to do, and if you’ve been kicking the ball since 9 1/2 months, it’s pretty much a given that you will follow in the whole family’s footsteps.

What do I do?  My husband works 6 days a week.  He has Saturdays off.  The girls games are both on Saturdays.  Jordan’s games normally fall on Sundays.  Lucky for me Jordan only has one game on Saturday this season and it is 35 minutes away from Katiana’s game at the exact same time.  I will send Jordan with Pato since Pato rarely gets to see Jordan play, works on Sundays, and always gets to see Katiana play, off on Saturdays.

If the girls’ games are at the same time, but in two different locations, I would call on the grandparents for HELP!  I have been before.  They have taken Jordan to his game in one town while I took Katiana to her game here at home.

I know the first game for Katiana tomorrow falls right after Grasskickers (the kick off for the U5/U6 teams) but she has to be 15 minutes early to warm up.  Thank goodness both are at home.  I’m Alyce’s coach this year, so I’ll send Katiana over to her field when it’s time and Alyce and I will follow her over when we are done with grasskickers.

It’s actually practices that are harder, though this year, not so much.  I scheduled Alyce’s practices at the same time as Jordan’s at the same park.  Katiana’s practices are on Sundays, unfortunately this Sunday, she’s missing practice because Jordan has an away game at the same time.

I am thankful that right now at this point I only have 1 in soccer year round.  Jordan plays 2 seasons of indoor soccer during his off season from outdoor soccer.  Katiana hasn’t shown any interest in that but both of the girls have asked about dance.

Telling you, it’s tough being a soccer mom to more than one (or any sport for that matter).

I have been hired by Warner Bros. WBWord division to promote The Middle Season Two on DVD.
