What would you do if someone offered you a free Chihuahua? (i don’t know if she is pure bred, she is smaller than Junie and Junie only weighs 8 lbs.)
Yeah. Me too.
That’s Zuleica (Yep, I edited that – I looked at her tag and figured out how to spell it.). The Chihuahua who hates me. I need some tips. She is extremely scared. She let the kids pet her in the car on the way home but now that we are here she’s just hiding in a pile of clothes that I need to go through to see what is good and what needs to be thrown out.
She spent the night jumping to the door handle on my front door, like if she could just get up there she could get out.
She can almost touch the door handle.
I didn’t know such a small dog would be able to jump so high off the ground without a running start.
Junie keeps trying to hump her.
For real.
I would think after what Junie went through at the puppy mill she would never want to subject another dog to that.
Guess she’s so happy with us she forgot.
I told the kids if she doesn’t calm down and stop trying to bite me, she’ll have to go back. She only does it when you try to pet her. If I have the leash in my hand, she’ll stand there rigid letting me put it on her to go outside. She’s definitely different from Junie. Junie has been my shadow dog since we got her.
Here’s hoping she relaxes and starts to like us.
Have a great day!

I do cat rescue not dog rescue, but an animal is an animal..
How old is this new dog? How long was she with her previous owners? Was she an only dog there, or were there others? And what reason did they give for wanting to rehome her?
Depending how long she has been with you, remember it takes time to adjust- she is scared and she doesn’t know why she is there. She doesnt know what she did ‘wrong’ to be moved from her home to yours. To her, she has been moved to another home with another dog for no reason- not that you arent nice humans, just her world has been turned upside down.
Also, all dogs have a sweet disposition- some you can get and they will be sweet no matter what happened to them and others nip when they are frightened.
Just give it a bit of time- the only thing I would be concerned about is the biting (or attempting to bite) is it just with you, or also with your kids? Is it something she did before?
Oh, and Junie humping- thats dominance related. Both males & females will try to assert a pecking order. Junie is trying to make it clear who is in charge. That will stop after awhile .
Thanks Ellen!
She is 1 year old. They were rehoming her because they were moving to an apartment that didn’t allow animals, though she did say that her daughters hated the dog.
She runs from the kids when they try to touch her. I’ve told them they need to just stay back and let her come to them when she is ready.
I’m impressed though, she just jumped up the couch next to me. All day she has followed me around at a safe distance, curious about what I am doing, but not wanting to get to close to me.
She seems really skinny to me. You can see her ribs when she stands the right way. I know Junie put on 2 lbs after she’d been with me. That doesn’t sound like a lot but when she started out at 6 lbs, jumping to 8 was a huge deal. The lady told me her favorite food is tortillas. I cringed. I did so much research on dog foods before I settled on Junie’s. The yeast infections in her ears are finally subsiding and I think it’s because I found a food with no grains, no barley, anything like that (Orijen red meat formula). I don’t know how much she weighs, but she feels light as a feather compared to Junie.
Oh, and I asked if she got along with other dogs, she said yes that she got along fine with her other dog. Her and Junie have been chasing each other all day. The only time Junie showed dominence (besides the humping) was when I gave both of them a treat. Junie didn’t think the new dog should be accepting food from my hand, because my hand only feeds her.
Now to get the cat in heat out from underneath my home. I’ve heard her there all day long.
She loves her grandma, though!
