Fashion At The Doctor’s Office

Posted by Heather Manning On January - 25 - 2011

You normally don’t see those words together do you?  My sister is going to nursing school right now and seeing as I adore my nurses I pay attention to them.  I have one nurse whose Medical Uniforms consist of mostly Iowa Hawkeye scrubs.  When I went the other day I purposely wore my Iowa State shirt just for her.  She told me even though I liked the wrong team….. :)   I adore her.  I actually bought that shirt just to annoy Jordan because he hates Iowa State, he’s a Hawkeye fan all the way.  I put it in his pile of clothes and he just about had a conniption fit when he saw it.  Why would you buy this for me?  Please burn it.  No, it’s mine.  Thank you.

Back to scrubs.

I just saw this -

The Veronica Top

I think I would wear that and I’m not even a nurse.  That’s cute.  I could see me piling on some chunky beads and gold chains and making it all hippy like.  That’s just me though, I don’t think they could do that at my doctor’s office, choking hazards around babies and all that.

The Liz Top

I’m telling you with the right accessories, I could totally take these funky scrubs from daytime at work to night time out and about.

Peachskin Pants

Wear those pants to work with the first top, bring along some fun accessories, put them on after work and your totally ready to stop and have a drink on the way home!

I’d wear those pants above at home.  They look cute and comfy and at $14.30, I’d grab a couple of pairs.  I’m actually thinking about it.  Not that I don’t have enough pairs of pants to lounge around in.  I have way too many.  I can’t help it.  I love comfy cute pants!

Valentine’s Day is Coming Up

Posted by Heather Manning On January - 25 - 2011

Do you have your Valentine’s Day gifts all ready to go?  I have to admit, I haven’t even started yet.  I have no idea what I’m going to get Pato.

I always want to do sweet and romantic with practicality, something he’ll use.

Pato knows not to buy me roses or flowers.

I’m too practical for that.

I actually get mad when he buys me roses.  After all of these years he should know that personally, I hate wasting money on something that will die.  A beautiful plant?  Definitely.  I can (attempt to) nurture it for years.  A dozen roses, while beautiful, die.

Then I’m sad.

For Father’s Day one year I had the only picture that we have of his family with his dad, who passed away a couple of years ago, enlarged and put on canvas and framed.  That meant something.

I’m thinking this year, if I hurry, that I might take the same picture and cut his dad out of it and design it with a picture of Pato.

He misses his dad and loves having the one picture up.  I know I would love it if someone gave me a picture like with myself and grandma.

I’m thinking about using the saying through the eyes on it.

What are you getting your other half for Valentine’s Day?

I could definitely use some ideas in case I don’t have time to get my original idea made into reality for Valentine’s Day.  The company I use for putting prints onto canvas is out of the US and it takes awhile to get here.  That might be a better idea for Father’s Day again.

The kids are easy.  I get them a little love sharing stuffed animal and  a card from me.

Pato is not as easy.

Pulling Teeth

Posted by Heather Manning On January - 25 - 2011

Not describing getting my kids to do something is like pulling teeth – although it is – I’m talking about really pulling teeth.

Who is the tooth puller in your house?

I guess it’s me here.

Why can’t Pato pull their teeth?  Because he works so many stinking hours that he’s never here when a tooth needs pulled.  I almost told him to hold on until we saw grandpa next.  Grandpa is a good and eager tooth puller.  Ok, maybe not eager but he was never grossed out pulling my teeth when I begged him.  He got out a t-shirt, wrapped it around the tooth and yanked away.  My mom wouldn’t even wiggle teeth.

That being said, this post is not going to be for the faint of heart or those who get sick reading about/seeing blood.  Skip today if that happens to you.

I’d skip it if it didn’t happen to me.

I pulled Katiana’s first tooth back in December.  No big deal.  Pop.  It was out.

Jordan has pulled his own teeth his whole tooth losing life.

I attempted to do one for him, but it wasn’t ready.

2 weeks ago he pulled out 5 teeth in a couple of days.

I thought surely he had to be out of teeth to pull.

Nope.

I noticed the other day that he had an adult molar coming up IN FRONT of his baby molar.  That tooth needed to go soon.  When he came up to me and said, mom, I need you to pull my tooth, I was sure it was going to be that one.  It has to be ready.

Nope, it was the canine next to it.

I gave a wiggle.  It was loose.  Pulled it out.  It bled a little.

Next thing I know Jordan came up to me with half a molar.  I just pulled half a tooth mom, the other half is stuck.

Something fell out of his mouth.  Not stuck any more.

That one was bleeding all over the place.

Then he was determined to pull the above mentioned molar that I said was in no way ready to come out after I tried wiggling it.  I told him if it didn’t come out soon that I would call the dentist.

Instead of taking a shower like I told him to do, he spent 20 minutes in the bathroom (with the water running to make me think he was doing what I said).  He came out to me hopping up and down.  Mom!  Mom!  Pull it!  Pull it!  It hurts.

He was bleeding all over the place from that tooth, but he did work it loose.

Not loose enough.

I had to put one hand on his head to give myself leverage to pull it.

It went pop, pop.  2 nails went snap, snap.

Blood EVERYWHERE.

Seriously peeps, I thought I was going to get sick, pass out, or both.

It was the pop pop snap snap that made me woozy.

He begged for orajel and ibuprofin for 2 days (Sunday and Monday).  He made me clean the blood out with a Q-tip first.  The things moms do for their kids.  Puke, poop, blood.  We do it all.

That’s 3 teeth in one night.

I said, that’s $3 from the tooth fairy.

He said, nope that’s $5.

I said what?

I pulled 2 yesterday but the tooth fairy never came.

For real Jordan?  You know I AM THE TOOTH FAIRY.  How am I supposed to know that she needs to visit if you don’t tell me that you lost teeth?

I was just testing her.

Come on.  Work with a mama here.

That has to be the last of his teeth right?  I don’t have to deal with any more blood until Katiana loses another tooth?  Right?  He swears he has one more to go.

I really hope he can do it on his own or that it’s just hanging by a thread and will fall out.

No more pop pop snap snap.

My cousin Skip asked me when I posted about pulling all these teeth on Facebook if they were loose or if we had cabin fever.

I can’t speak for Jordan but it was all about the loose teeth for me.  At least they were loose when they got to me.

Have a great day!
