READ THE UPDATE TO THIS POST HERE.
I wasn’t going to post about this until I knew an answer either way, but then I thought I try to be honest about everything that is going on in my life on my blog. Life isn’t perfect and neither am I. Whether it’s depression or problems with the kids, I blog the good, the bad, and the ugly. So, I might as well blog the things that keep me up tossing and turning until 4 in the morning and then get me back up at 8 right?
I have had an IUD in for 2 years this coming April. I have the paraguard IUD which is the copper IUD. No hormones, no reason for my period to be late. I’m not nursing anymore and haven’t since Christiano was 18 months, so that isn’t it. I’ve been regular again since about 15 months post partum.
I was taking a shower on Monday night and got to thinking. When was the last time I had my dot. (We call it a dot in our family. My sister started it when she was younger. I’m sure if you think about it, you’ll go ohhhhh.
)
Anyways, I couldn’t remember when. I came out and asked Pato, do you remember when I had my period last? No. I sat down with a calendar and figured that on November 19 I was starting to feel like I had a UTI and I was blaming on the period I had just gotten over. (I remember because right after that I had the nasty bladder/kidney infection that flared up.)
It is now December 30. I am about 2 weeks late.
Late.
There is a reason I have an IUD in.
I have 4 kids.
I adore them.
I don’t want anymore.
Paraguard and IUDs in general are probably the most reliable form of birth control at 99.4%, nothing to remember, nothing to break, it’s all good.
So where the heck is my dot?
I keep reminding myself that I had this scare once before at about 1 year post partum. I hadn’t gotten my period back yet. My doctor wanted to take a test at my check up. I hadn’t been worried about it at all before that because I was nursing. Then I started worrying, it came back negative. Mother nature visited like a month later finally.
She’s been regular ever since.
I took a test the night before last. Negative.
Yippie!
I was sure my period would show up. You know, you are counting the days. You’re late. You take the test. Your period shows up 5 minutes after the regular result.
I started breathing easier. Then last night Pato and I had an argument, I went from yelling to crying in 2 seconds. It was a stupid argument too. He said, take the other test. You are so sensitive right now.
That could mean my dot is going to make an appearance too.
Yay!
Not this morning. I took another test this morning. Negative.
Where the heck is mother nature when you need her?
She always makes an appearance at the most inopportune times but never when you WANT her to show up.
I’ve got another call into my doctor to see what they want to do.
The main thing I’m worried about right now is a tubal pregnancy because your risk is higher with an IUD. I looked that up online while I was waiting and it said that tubals should show up on a pregnancy test but that it might take longer for the HCG to build up enough to detect it.
The other thing I’m worried about is what if I am? Everyone’s reaction. I can just hear it now. Doesn’t she know how to use birth control? I heard that when I found out I was pregnant with Christiano (my sponge/condom baby). Yes, I do know how thanks. I have an IUD in.
5 kids? I have a friend Melissa who has adopted 9 children. I call her super mom. She truly is. I think she is fabulous. I have another friend, Blythe, who has 5 boys. She’s super mom too. I don’t know if I’m super mom. I try.
If I was, do you know how many changes would have to happen? We would HAVE to get a house. No more messing around, no more putting it off, no more hemming and hawing over decisions. You can only have 6 people in our apartment. They’ll make you move with more than that. Our apartment isn’t small for an apartment, it was actually nice and roomy when we moved in and 2 kids. Four kids has made it a tad more crowded with stuff: toys, clothes, etc. I’d have to get a new car. I have my 2008 KIA Rondo which sits 7, but it’s not going to sit 2 car seats and 2 high back boosters. What we have in it now is about as much as you can do and the family vacation to Ohio was not as comfortable in that car as it was when we’d go to Ohio in my old mini van.
I’m not pregnant. The test would come up positive eventually if I was right? So, if I’m not pregnant, what the heck is going on with me that I am so late? This isn’t a day or two. We’re going over 2 weeks now. I’ve always been on time, usually 2 – 6 days early every month. It’s just weird.
It’s never going to show up now that I realized I’m late and am stressing over it.
When I talked to the doctor’s nurse the first day I took a test she said are you having any symptoms?
Yeah, I feel like I’m going to puke.
I don’t think that has to do with morning sickness though.
Not cool.
Keep your fingers crossed for me.
I’m sure when they call me back they are going to want to run a blood test or something.
Kat’s got a dentist appointment this morning.
All kinds of fun rolled up in my day. I’ll see if they can schedule anything tomorrow. I have to wait for Jordan to get home too. In fact, if we did it tomorrow, he could watch the girls and I could take Christiano with me to run the test. The doctor is just right up the street. Heck, if we did it tomorrow, that gives mother nature 24 more hours to get this party started already.
Ok, now you all can put my mind at ease and tell me that you’ve been that late before and you weren’t pregnant. You have a friend that was the late and finally got her period. I really could use some stories like that rather Googling pregnant with IUD. That does nothing but keep me up all night long reading how many people have become pregnant with an IUD in.
Have a wonderful day.
I’ll just working on not throwing up.
