It is December 15. 36 years ago it was 1974 and my mom gave birthday to a bouncing baby girl 3 weeks early. People weren’t sure if that baby girl would survive. She was born with hyaline membrane disease. Back then medical care wasn’t what it is today. A nurse said to that new mother standing outside the nICu, praying for her daughter, – honey, it’s all in God’s hands now. She brought that baby girl home right before Christmas – a Christmas miracle if you will. It is now 2010. That baby is now over the hump of the 30’s and on her way to 40….eventually. and she has a scar in the shape of a cross on her chest that shows she pulled through that whole hyaline membrane thing.
I’m so dramatic.
I’m not going to cry today.
Promise.
I think if you read back through my other birthday posts, I’ve cried on my birthday for the last 3 years.
Let’s not do that today.
That’s me – I was probably 1 here. Digging the mohawk. My mom was really wishing I would grow some hair so she created the illusion of my hair. Don’t worry, she did it to my sister too. I think it took Abby even longer to get hair than it took me. My theory is, those of us who take forever to grow hair end up with full thick heads of hair that everyone envies. Ok, seriously, let me leave in my delusions. They work for me.
That’s me on the tricycle, obviously. In my tutu. Alyce gets that dancing bug from somewhere.
I think I was 4 here.
High school peeps! I’m in the middle.
NEVER…May I repeat, we are never ever doing that hair color again. (I’m Dolly Parton in the solid blue dress.)
Another let’s not ever do that again color. Pato, me, and Jordan. Those last 2 were in my tanning addiction stage. I’d still be doing it if I hadn’t had the skin cancer scare on my shoulder.
Back to black hair. I’ve been dying my hair since I was 13 or so. I don’t even know what my natural color is. I think it’s similar to the girls’ hair color. Let’s see, Pato and I have been together almost 9 years – I must have been 29 or so here. Hold on to those 20’s girlfriend!!! The 30’s FLY by!
And the redhead again – this was this year, but before I cut my hair.
We’ll go with this one for now, because I seriously need a haircut.
Oh wait, we need one with the new piercing –
My SIL and I with our matching piercings. Rock on!
Oh me – how you’ve changed through the years. You have a slight addiction to hair color and tanning, but I still love you.
See, I’m going into today with a happy attitude. I’m not going to get depressed because I’m getting older. It’s all good. we all do it. I’ll survive 36 and metal buildings will become fashionable. Wait, they are aren’t they? My parents have one as their garage. So, 36 must be survivable. It’s the new ….. 21?
That’s a very brave face I’m putting on today.
Have a great day!
