I Feel Like A Traitor

Posted by Heather Manning On November - 2 - 2010

I just voted and for the first time ever I did not vote straight ticket.  I went with one vote against my party.

Normally I am conservative but there are a few issues that I am more with the democrats on.  I used to vote straight ticket republican but as I get older there are more issues that are becoming important to me.  I have to weigh which of these issues is most important to me before I go vote.

I wrote to one of my senators regarding something that is very very important to me and his answer back to me downright ticked me off.  I know he’s done a lot of good for Iowa, but this issue outweighs the rest of them for me right now at this moment in my life.

I got to the polling place and voted for everyone except that one seat.  I sat there tossing it back and forth in my mind.  It was really hard to change what I’ve done for years.  I mean, I’ve voted for him in every single election since I could vote I believe.  Finally, I made up my mind and voted for his opponent.

My mom is going to kill me.

He’ll probably win anyway.  Most people look at the other things he’s done, not at this one issue.

I couldn’t do it.

I have no problem telling you that I voted for former Governor Branstad.  The whole thing with him for me is that when he was governor, most of my school career, Iowa was number one in the nation in education.  I have 4 children.  Education is highly important to me.  I don’t even know where we are now, but under Vilsack (our current secretary of agriculture – thank God not education) and Culver we have dropped…..a lot.

Plus, Culver has blown up the state’s finances.

I like Culver more than Vilsack.  Culver comes off as a good ol’ Iowa boy.  Vilsack wasn’t even from Iowa and came off as a smooth operator to me.  I know you don’t have to be from Iowa to be the governor of Iowa, but if you have to be from the US to be the president, I think the same should go for Iowa. :)

Come on, nothing screams Iowan more than the plaid shirt.  All the good ol’ boys here wear them. :)

Just because I think Culver comes off like a nice guy doesn’t mean I want him running our state any longer.  I didn’t vote for him the first time and I didn’t vote for him this time.

The guy I didn’t vote for and now feel like a traitor because of – I’m sorry Senator Grassley, but I have to vote what I believe and you really disappointed me.

I’m not a traitor right?

You have to vote what you believe is right.

My mom is going to be so disappointed in me.  waving hi to mom You still love me right?

In other news, there’s a new link about this post.  I started a blog in Junie’s voice.  I wanted to do more to help out animals that were in the situation she was in.  If you buy chance work with rescues, have a rescue, etc, I’m looking for guest bloggers over there to tell there story.  I want to help give a voice to these animals.

First Night Going Out In How Long

Posted by Heather Manning On November - 1 - 2010

I had so much fun the other night.  Saturday night, after taking the kids trick or treating, I went out with my sister, my sister in law, and our mutual friend.  We were all dressed up in our costumes (which I’ll show you as soon as I figure out what’s wrong with my brother’s computer): I was a ref, Shelley was a dead zombie school girl (quite realistic if I may say, wait until you see it), Abby was Little Dead Riding Hood, and Crystal was a prisoner.

This was my sister’s costume – minus the knife and the evil face going on –

888031-main I can’t find Crystal’s exact costume, but it was really cute.  And I LOVED her wig she had going on.  You’ll see it when I get the pictures.

We went to Miss Kitty’s, a dance club here in Clive.  I have not been out since my sister’s bachelorette party when Alyce was 6 months old or so – she’ll be 4 in December.  That’s almost 4 years since I have gone out (besides the casino with my mom).  Crazy long time.  It was almost the same group at the same place as her bachelorette party.

I haven’t drank in forever either.   I wasn’t going to drink.  It’s good that I can remember what I drank right? A beer, a shot of liquid cocaine, 3 shots of yager, 2 jello shots, and something in a tube, plus whatever koolaid the dj poured down my throat.  I danced like a fool but was sober by the time I got home.  Thank you to my sister for making sure I got to the club and back home safely. :)

I almost had my purse stolen.  We were all dancing in a circle, so I put my purse in the middle of us and Shelley put her camera there.  Taylor Lautner came up dancing and tried to start grinding with me.  Ok, it wasn’t really Taylor Lautner, but he did bear a remarkable resemblance to him.  As I was trying to explain the whole married thing and move away, his girlfriend and Napoleon Dynamite were trying to slide my purse and Shelley’s camera towards them with their feet.  Shelley was like, oh uh uh.  Snatched up my purse and her camera and we moved away from them.  My purse never left my arm the rest of the night.

He would have probably been happier with Shelley’s camera than the contents of my purse.  My phone was the only thing worth any money in there and I would have reported it stolen as soon as I realized my purse was gone.

Miss Kitty’s had a costume contest going with 3 categories.  Scariest, sexiest, and most creative.  The girl from Avatar one sexiest, the abominable snowman got scariest (though I think Ghost Rider should have won that).  When it came to most creative, Shelley and Abby were in the top 10. How cool is that?  Lego guy ended up winning the trip to Aruba, but still, they were there out of all of those costumes!

After they judged the costume costume contest, Abby drove me home.

Pato was wondering what happened to me.  I took my long sleeve shirt off in the bathroom at the club because I was hot.  Then I was I was dancing, my too big shorts (because I have been losing weight) started sliding down, so I whipped those off and kept my leggings on.  Then when we got in the car I took my wig off because I was hot.

I still had on my ref shirt and leggings, it was all good.  :)

We took pictures with guy from Hangover and the Mad Hatter and Marilyn Manson.  I’m sure there are others, I’ll have to see.

It was a fun night and we made a pledge to not wait 4 years to do it again.

Oh, forgot to mention the dude who was talking to us and asked how old we were and I said, 35.  He said good for you!  Still going out kicking it on Halloween?

Are you for real?  Seriously?  Just wait until you’re 35.

Then I was down yesterday with a horrible sore throat, thought I had strep, but just a virus. Sticking my tongue out at my favorite words Not a hangover people, a sore throat.  :)

For my computer savvy friends who are reading – my brother installed a motorola driver on to his computer and now it’s screwed up.  He removed it.  Nothing.  I had him try a system restore – it wasn’t working right.  When Shelley connected her camera before, the computer would pop open the program she uses to transfer the pictures and edit them.  It isn’t doing that any more.  I need to see if she can get to her pictures using My Computer.  But, does anyone have any idea on how to get it to open instantly again?

That’s all from me!

Have a wonderful day!
