I forgot to share this story the other day and thought while I’m waiting for my kids to get home (the bus is now 42 minutes late and it took me forever to get through to the bus barn) I’d share it.
Let me start this with Alyce. Every time she gets dressed she says, mom, do I look like a princess? And I say, you are a princess, Alyce.
Before Jordan’s last soccer game, we stopped at Burger King to grab chicken nuggets. Of course, the little ones all got crowns.
We went to the game and watched. I walked out with Nano when it was over, while the others stopped to watch rock climbing.
Alyce came out to the car with this look on her face. It would have broken your heart. I knew she was going to start crying.
I said, Leecy, what is wrong?
That girl…that girl…she said I’m not a princess. SOB
gasp
Can you believe that? Someone had the gall to tell my child that she wasn’t a princess? So not right. Let me at them. (Ok, maybe not let me at a 5 year old.)
Alyce, honey. You are mommy’s princess. You don’t let anyone tell you you aren’t.
Pato said, did you ask her if she had a crown? No. Guess that makes me the princess.
The little things that just devastate them.
In bed for nap today, Alyce brought it up (which is what made me think of it). Mom, do you remember that girl saying I’m not a princess?
Yes, Leecy, but you are mom’s princess.
And daddy’s princess.
Yes.
Insert Nano – Me too! Me too!
Sure Nano, you’re a princess.
