Jordan Running

Posted by Heather Manning On September - 16 - 2010

On Purpose?

He has to run the mile today in gym so that’s not on purpose.  He surprised me though.  2 years ago he signed up to run the cross country mile for the elementary schools here.  It’s getting the kids excited about cross country when they get into junior high and high school.  He ran it.  He came in 2nd to last place, but he FINISHED it.  I cried when he passed the finish line.  All these parents were there, cheering Jordan on to the end, you can do it!  You can do it!  (Let’s remember my son is husky and the only time he runs on purpose is during soccer.)

There he is coming around the end.

He skipped last year.  He was not about to do it again.

He came home with the sign up sheet this year and said, I’m doing it.

He is now signed up to run the cross country mile with all of the other elementary schools.  I’m really proud of him.

He will run it September 20 and I will be there with bells on cheering for him!

I’ve decided that even though I hate to run, and I mean HATE to run, that it would be a good example if I got up with Jordan every morning at 6 and we went for a run/walk.  We both need to get in shape.  We were going to start this morning, but my SIL is going to go with us and we’re trying to find out if the track is open that early.  Otherwise it’s going to be at the park by our house.  (I know, I know, procrastination gets you nowhere.)

Mine will more be jogging 30 seconds, walking, jogging 30 seconds walking, as I try to keep myself from getting a black eye.  I hate running.

Katiana has volunteered to run with us, but I’m not sure how well she’d function at school getting up an hour earlier.

Ok, so if you run, how did you start?  Any tips on going from 0 to well, jogging?

I’m scared.

I haven’t run on purpose since high school.  And that’s only cuz the school made us run the mile back then too.

My daughter is the opposite of me.  Do you know she’s dissapointed because 1st graders DON’T get to run the mile?

She is so strange.

It’s been a rather boring few days and I really don’t have anything exciting that’s happened to blog about.

Jordan has a pimple on the back of his leg and wants to know how to get rid of acne.

Christiano can say poopy head now.  (Thank you Alyce.)

And he can say cho-co-let.  (It’s a combo English/Spanish word.  Thank you Alyce.)

And he can say abuelita – which comes out ah-bwe-lee-lee-lee-da.  (Grandma in Spanish – thank you Alyce. <3)

He pretty much copies everything Alyce says anymore.  And he does it with such enthusiasm.  I mean, chocolate comes out with arms swinging and a slight jump off the ground.

Can you blame him?  I’d jump for chocolate too.

And I want to start running.

Got it – put a Heath Bar on a stick with a string dangling it front of me and I’ll run anywhere.

Have a great day!

Please vote for Alyce today.  You can vote every day until 9/19. No registration, just type in the quoted text.  That’s their captcha code.  Thank you! (She moved up to 25th place today!  If everyone who visited me voted once for  her, we could really bump her up!  The $1000 she would get if she won, would go into her college fund!)

I am currently doing the Couch to 5K program, but I’ve wanted to do this program with my kids:

I want to be there to cheer him on. You know I can’t run, never could. Quit having PhysEd after being forced to run the mile and had an asthma attack on the field. Was taken to our doctor to get a shot to keep my heart beating, slow it down or something. Doctor said, “No more PE for you ever” and gave me a note for the school saying the same. Anyway, back to Jordan, I was there the first time and had tears as he crossed the finish line, too. Good grief, this is the 16th and the run is the 20th? I’ll be there, Jordan! Grandma.

I second the couch to 5K app (I have it on my iPod). It’s a great way to transition slowly and it tells you exactly what to do.
