The Universe Did Not Align

So, who got to watch the season premiere of The Vampire Diaries last night?

Not me.

I was on a mission yesterday because Jordan had soccer practice at 7 and I wouldn’t be home to watch it.  No Tivo, no dvd recorder, but I do have a vcr/tv combo in my bedroom.  I was going to hook up the digital converter box and record it.

First I had to get some things.

We went to Target where I spent way too much money on nothing that had to do with my mission.  I grabbed Christiano a cute pair of tennis shoes that he picked out all by himself and refused to take off all night.  (They light up.)  He finally took them off at bedtime and proceeded to SLEEP with his tennis shoes.  I left them with him to show Pato how much Nano loves his new tennies.  So stinking cute!

Target had most of the stuff I needed, but no blank VHS tapes.  I thought since I was going to Wal-Mart that I would just check the prices there.

Got a new antenna for the TV.  I plan on hooking this one up to the living room TV and moving that antenna over to the bedroom TV.  This one is nicer than the one we have in the living room and I’m tired of the digital channels not coming in.  Stupid switch to digital anyway.  My no cable policy worked better when we had analog and we could actually get all of the channels to come in.

I grabbed this one –

RCA Flat Digital Amplified Indoor TV Antenna

More expensive than your regular rabbit ears, but more expensive means it works better right?

Sigh

At least I have sound on the CW now.  That’s an improvement.  I think Pato needs to play around with the placement of it.  Placement is key I assume.  Sitting on a stack of clothes on my dresser beside the window is probably not ideal.

I also grabbed a universal remote because even though we have the digital converter box, the remotes in our house always magically disappear.  Can’t program the channels on the converter box without the remote.

Thankfully Wal-Mart also had blank VHS tapes.  Plus a ton of school supplies on clearance.  Stocked up on those also for Alyce and Nano to use at home.

Came home, spent an hour, an hour, trying to program the stupid remote.  Finally got it working with the converter box and could get a whole 9 channels to come in.  The important was coming through though, like I said, I had sound on the CW.

Could not for the life of me get the TV to work with the remote.

Screw it.  I’ll just hit record when we leave and it’ll record everything, including the show.  Right?

Popped a brand new video tape in the VCR and it kept saying ejecting.  Ejecting.  Ejecting.  It wouldn’t eject though.  Then the TV would shut off.

GRRRRRRRRR.

If you were curious, this is what my TV looks like on the inside –

CIMG0086

Pato just about had a heart attack when I sent him that picture.  Put it back together!  Don’t touch anything!  I’ll get the tape out when I get home.

But then I’ll miss the show.

Put.The.TV.Back.Together.

Fine.

Probably best because I don’t have cheap life insurance and knowing me and the fact that the TV was plugged in still, I probably would have electrocuted myself.

I called my SIL to see if she could record it, she wasn’t sure if their VCR recorded anymore, but I took a blank VCR tape to try.

It didn’t work.

I called my ex-husband, mad at the world (we’re friends like that, kind of nice to not be fighting when we have a beautiful kid together), complaining about the fact that I watch 1 show.  1 show on TV and I can’t frigging watch it.  My TV is monopolized every night by various people and I never get to watch anything.

Unbeknownst to me, he called his daughter in law, who said she’d record it for me on DVD.

YAY!

I’m hoping she was able to get it.

Otherwise, I’m spending the $2.99 to watch it on iTunes.  I would have saved a lot of money actually if I would have just bought it on iTunes to begin with.

$40 antenna, $10 remote, $8 blank VHS tapes.

Not being able to watch your favorite show when it comes out?  Infuriating.

I may take that antenna back anyway.  Seriously, if I can get more reception with the rabbit ears, why waste the $40 on it?  That’s what I’m saying.

I think I will.

Have a great day!
