Day 1 – No Nursing

Posted by Heather Manning On September - 5 - 2010

I’ve said it before, I’m ready to quit nursing, but Christiano wasn’t quite there yet. (He’s 18 months.)  With both of the girls I stopped at 16 months.  Amazingly enough, at that age, they both bit me and drew blood and I said, oh no.  We are so done.  They actually were really easy, once I stopped offering, they stopped asking.

Nano on the other hand, he’s a booby boy.  I’ve been doing the don’t offer/don’t refuse method with him.  If I don’t offer, he asks A LOT still.  Yesterday though, I went out with my parents.  Then we went to my uncle’s, and Nano didn’t ask all day.

We got home and he asked for “boop” at about 8:30.  We tried to distract him, and it went well.  Pato asked him if he wanted to go bye bye with him.  They went to the store to get laundry detergent and when they got back, Nano forgot he wanted it.

I went to bed and he had his first day without nursing.

This morning he got up and came in and asked for “boop”.  Katiana ran and got him a glass of milk and he toddled off with that, forgetting his morning “boop”.

If he asked for it and not giving it to him would cause him to have a meltdown, I’d give it to him.  I’m not cruel, but if we can easily divert him to something else and he forgets he wanted it, why not go with it.

Honestly, I’m totally ready.  I have been pregnant or nursing for almost 6 years straight.  Katiana is 6, I nursed her for 16 months.  There is a little bit over 2 1/2 years between Kat and Alyce.  Alyce is 3.  I nursed her for 16 months.  There are 2 years between Alyce and Nano and I have now nursed him for 18 months.

I’m ready to have my body be mine again, you know?

I’m ready to start losing these 40 lbs I have left to lose (from Katiana), so I can fit back into my size 10s.  When I quit nursing, I can use a supplement to help kick those off.  I know some will tell me that if you use supplements that you will gain it back.  I used phentermine (Sp) when I was over 240 lbs after having Jordan though.  I lost 80 lbs in about 7 months, it melted off.  I kept that off.  Then used another supplement to help lose another 10 lbs.  Kept all that off for 3 years without taking anything else.  Then I got prego with Katiana and gained 35 lbs in 12 weeks.  I gained 70 lbs during the whole pregnancy.  Lost 40 of that on my own, then got pregnant with Alyce.  I gained like 16 lbs with Alyce, lost that in 2 weeks.  Gained 14 lbs with Nano and lost that in the first 8 days or so.

I hate the way I look right now.  Pato doesn’t mind.  He said my stomach was “la casa” (the house) of his kids and it doesn’t bother him at all.  He says that if I want to lose weight, lose it for me.  He’s happy with me however I am.

(He can be so sweet when he wants to.)

I’d ideally like to get down to 145 or so.  (I’m 5’4”.)  My chiropractor told me I should be down at 125, but let’s set some realistic goals here.

I’m going to give Christiano a week or so of not nursing before I start something.  I don’t know if I’ll go back to my doctor and see if she’ll give me the phentermine again, or if I’ll try something OTC.

I’ve been looking at this one – Meizitang Botanical Slimming Weight Loss Soft Gel 650mg Full English Verison with Anti Fake Laser Mark(10packs=360capsules).  All of the reviews on it are awesome and they are Amazon verified purchases.  I know when I review something that I have been given, I always give me honest review, but there are companies out there that pay people to give them good reviews and you never know the difference between someone like me and someone like them.  Seeing that these people purchased the product on Amazon makes me feel better.  And if you’re getting 360 capsules and you take 1 a day, that pack will last you almost a year.

What do you think?  Have you tried any diet supplements?  What has worked, what hasn’t?

I know I will have to get up and exercise more and eat better along with it.  I never expect a magic pill to do all the work.

The problem with me is, and this is why my doctor put me on something in the beginning, even when I eat good and exercise, I hardly lose weight at all.  I kept a food and exercise journal and she was shocked that I had only lost a couple of pounds in a month before we tried something else.

I walked and walked and rode my bike and rode my bike and nada really.

I have always wondered if when I was younger and I starved myself and threw up my food if I did some damage to myself in the form of my metabolism.  Is my body always going to take food and store it for the next time I starve myself?  I don’t know, but something happened and now I have the hardest time losing weight.

Anyways, I am going to take the kids to the zoo today.  Distract Christiano a little more. :)

Have a great day!

Aren’t husbands wonderful? They love our bodies for what they DO, not what they look like! You’ve got a good one there…

Kudos to you for nursing your boy for 18 months (and your girls for 16!!!). I nursed my daughter for almost 15 months, and only reluctantly stopped because she was soooooo very ready. I understand completely what you mean about being ready to have your body back– to have it be just YOURS again!

I completely understand wanting your body back! When my youngest was 18 months I decided we were done nursing. The baby is the hardest to wean. I had spent the better part of 6 years pregnant or nursing and I was ready. I felt a little guilty but quickly realized he would be just fine.

Weight loss has been a struggle at times for me so my doctor gave me phentarimine. She and I had a very long talk and I asked about over the counter stuff and she told me she didn’t feel comfortable letting me go that route. I have the same goal weight in mind. I was 125 in high school and I doubt I’ll ever get there again! I hope you find something that helps you out!
