What is Murphy’s Law Again?

Posted by Heather Manning On August - 15 - 2010

You know –

If anything can go wrong, it will.

I’m sure he wasn’t talking about motherhood, but if the shoe fits, we’ll wear it.

First Jordan was sick when I picked him up from camp.  Then I was sick, culminating in my ear drum rupturing, and me feeling like I have been hit by a mac truck.  You can probably imagine what my place looks like after I’ve been in bed for almost a week.  (I’m starting to think it’s the antibiotics that are making me feel lousy.  While my ear hurts yes, and I can’t hear out of my left ear yet, my whole body feels worse than I did before I went to the doctor.  I cannot count the days down fast enough until I’m done with those!)

So, back to my place being trashed, and no one wanting to help, not even Pato was willing to do more than 2 loads of dishes in one week.  (Insert grrrrrrrr here)

Guess who knocks on my door Friday with my new microwave I asked for 5 months ago?  Maintenance.  I just about died.  I said, you can’t come in now.  My house is trashed!  He said it’s now or in a few weeks.  I said, crap, you can come in, but I’ve been really really sick and haven’t been able to do anything while my 4 kids have the run of the house.

I have a new microwave at least.

This morning, miss Alyce woke up and walked by Pato.  He said, your eye!  Let me see it.  I turned around and said, WHAT THE HELL?  I know, I know, family friendly blog and all, but if I said it in front of my 3 year old in shock, I can say it in front of you.

alyces eye

Yes, that is what my 3 year old looked like when she got up this morning.  She was totally fine when she went to bed last night.

Pato was already dressed for work and the other 3 were sleeping still.  I begged him to call in late and throw her in the car and take her to the doctor.  He did.

In the meantime, I was looking up brown recluse spider bites, freaking out.  It didn’t look like one of those.  Thank God.  Pato got her back home a bit later and her eye was even more swollen.  The doctor agreed it was a spider bite, but we’re not sure what kind.  Alyce was having a bad allergic reaction to it.  So, she is now on prednisone and benedryl.  Before she went to sleep it looked like the swelling might have gone down a tad bit.

Alyce says her poor eye looks like a rainbow.

It really was starting to tonight.  She’s going to have a black eye when this is all done and over with.

I am going to order some hedge apples to put around the apartment.  A semi-cheap, non-toxic way to get rid of spiders. (I’m praying they are non-toxic for my birds, another question to ask.)  How many do I need in a 3 bedroom apartment?  I need them.  Vacuuming up their webs doesn’t do anything but send them off to look for another spot to build the web.

I know spiders are good and all, but not when they bite my daughter’s face like that.

More Murphy’s Law – Katiana was trying to help me tonight as I took some garbage out to the dumpster.  She couldn’t get the garbage bag out, so tried to bring the whole garbage can to the sliding glass door.  Dumped it, coffee grouds and all, all over the carpet.

Sigh

Anything else?  There’s been more things, like Christiano taking off his diaper (someone – me – didn’t put his shorts back on after he spilled all over them) and peeing all over the kitchen floor, dumping the parakeets’ food more than once (today), multiple glasses of multiple beverages spilled all over the kitchen floor, broken coke glass, I mean, the list in the last 2 days alone just goes on and on and on.

On that note, I have 3 children asleep.  I am going to put Katiana to bed and head that way myself.  Pato wants to leave for Ohio now on Wednesday and I have got to get better if we go.

Have a great day!
