Rubicon

Posted by Heather Manning On July - 20 - 2010

rubicon_actor_image I just got to watch the premiere of AMC’s new drama Rubicon and David’s superstitions got me thinking about whether I am superstitious in anyway.

Honestly, I don’t think I am.  If anything, I always go against the superstitions.  I pick 13 as my number when given a choice, when I had a cat, I chose the black one, and the only reason I don’t walk under ladders is because I’m a carpenter’s daughter.  You must practice safety around ladders.  I don’t throw salt over my shoulders, not worried about bad luck if a mirror is broken, though I do worry about glass shards getting embedding in a foot.  I don’t wear lucky socks or have a lucky necklace.  I don’t even play the same numbers in keno at the casino most of the time.  I even stepped on cracks.  Not because I wanted to break my mama’s back, but because I wanted to prove that it wouldn’t happen.  I guess I have held my breath while going past a cemetery, only because my friends were doing it.  I don’t do it now and I haven’t breathed in a spirit of someone who recently died that I know of.

Maybe I don’t have a superstition because I’ve never found anything works for me?  I don’t know.  I’ve just never been superstitious at all.

David in Rubicon, on the other hand?  Extremely superstitious!  I hadn’t even heard of the superstition that when a broom brushes up against you, you need to spit on it.  (He bought the broom and hung it in his office BTW, presumably to spit on it whenever he had the chance.)

I really really enjoyed the first episode of Rubicon, which will premiere on AMC on August 1.  Here’s the list of characters and a short description:

  • James Badge Dale (The Pacific, The Departed)
  • Miranda Richardson (Sleepy Hollow)
  • Dallas Roberts (Walk the Line, Flicka, The L Word)
  • Jessica Collins (The Nine, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation)
  • Christopher Evan Welch (Vicky Cristina Barcelona)
  • Lauren Hodges (Law & Order)
  • Arliss Howard (Full Metal Jacket, Natural Born Killers, The Sandlot)

Rubicon is a conspiracy thriller starring James Badge Dale (who earlier this year headlined HBO’s The Pacific) as an analyst at a New York City-based federal intelligence agency who is thrown into a story where nothing is as it appears to be. Henry Bromell (Homicide, Chicago Hope, Brotherhood) has signed on as showrunner. The one-hour, 13-episode weekly series is produced by Warner Horizon Television and premieres this summer!

The premiere left me wanting more, wanting questions answered, and the previews of upcoming shows at the end of the premiere were action-packed, full of suspense, and showed this show taking off with a bang!

I can’t wait to see more of Rubicon!

Want to see a little yourself?  I warn you, you’ll be wanting more after you watch it, so make sure to tune in to Rubicon on AMC at 8 PM ET!

AMC’s newest original drama series “Rubicon” debuts on Sunday, August 1 with a special two-hour premiere from 8–10pm ET.

I was provided a small stipend for my review.

As always though, my thoughts are my own.
