When Did I Move To The Southern Part Of Hades?

Posted by Heather Manning On July - 15 - 2010

Holy friggin’ crap it’s hot out.

That’s about as nicely as I can put it while keeping it family friendly.

It’s only going to hit almost 90 today depending on which station you watch.  Yesterday I never saw the official temp, but it was supposed to be 95 with heat indices hitting 105-110.  My condolences to the northeastern part of the country who dealt with temps even hotter than that.

My air conditioner cannot keep up.  Neither can my humidity control things in the apartment.  My kids want to go to the pool.  It’s too hot to walk over to the pool.  Plus, I’m worried about the false sense of coolness while that sun is beating down on them in the pool.  I worry too much don’t I?  I’ve got sun block that’s 50 spf for them.  How often do you reapply when you’re swimming at club hades?

In all seriousness though, my thoughts and prayers are with those who are without homes in this heat.  For the elderly without air condtioning and no where to go.  I know there are places where you can donate fans for the elderly in this weather.  If you have any extra, look into it.  Usually the Salvation Army runs fan drives for people who need it.

I’d like to post this Amber Alert on my blog today too.  I saw it on the news, and thought I’d put it out there in case my fellow Iowans who read my blog (you know, my mom) hadn’t seen it.

MelodyMartin

Police out of Nebraska have issued an Amber Alert for a missing 15-year-old. They say the person who may have abducted her might be traveling through Iowa on the way to New York.
Police say Melody Martin, also known as Melody Gibbs, was abducted from Ainsworth in north central Nebraska. Officers say she may be in danger.

She has long blonde hair and was last seen wearing a black and pink tank top, blue jeans and Nike shoes with pink laces.
Police say Martin may be with 30-year-old Robert Olney. They are believed to be in a red Hyundai Accent with New York license plates.
If you have any information on Melody Martin’s location you’re asked to call 911 or contact local law enforcement.

I hope Channel 13 doesn’t mind me borrowing their words for this since it’s important and has all of her info in it.

I don’t have much else to talk about.  It’s too hot for my kids to be cute.  Heck, it’s too hot for me to think of something clever.

Ok, here’s one.  Christiano has a new word.  Apple.  He doesn’t actually want an apple though.  He wants apple JUICE.  He handed Jordan his glass yesterday and said, apple.  Jordan said, ok.  He went in the kitchen, got an apple, and handed it to Christiano.  Nano looked at him like, really?  Did I say I wanted this?  I said apple.  That obviously means that I want you to get me juice.

He threw the apple at Jordan, got his glass, brought it to me and said apple.  He knows mama can translate what he really wants.

And now I have a bruised apple.

Have a great day and stay cool!

I hate the heat too but this year every time I get to hot I think of those serving in Iraq where the temps are well over 100 degrees and how they are wearing their full battle gear. They are our volunteers and they can’t get into cool places when they want. So far thinking about them I’ve been able to handle this heat. I know this because my son tell us how hot it is in where he is at Camp Liberty.
