Still the One by Robin Wells

After Katie Charmaine’s husband is killed in Iraq, all she has left is a closet full of his clothes, a few pictures, and fond memories. She not only lost her love, but her last chance to have the children she’s always wanted. Until Zack Ferguson shows up in town . . . with the daughter Katie gave up for adoption nearly seventeen years ago.
Zack Ferguson has never forgotten Katie, or the one magical night they spent together. Seeing her again brings up a tidal wave of emotions: regret over the way he left her, anger at the secret she kept, and desire he hasn’t felt in years. But he’s in town for Gracie. Their daughter is sixteen, angry at the world, and-worst of all-pregnant. She needs the love of her two parents now more than ever. Can these three forgive the hurts of the past and open their hearts to each other?

I was in need of a good romance.  I’m in the middle of quite a few non-fiction books and it was just time to take a break from the seriousness and read a good love story.

If this tells you anything about how good the book is, I started it this afternoon and finished it just a few minutes ago, all 412 pages of it.

From the start you get pulled in to Zack and Katie’s relationship, the shock of finding out about Gracie, the turmoil between Katie’s mother and father in law.  And you’re rooting for all of them the whole way through the book.  Gracie, and her losses adding on to the a pregnancy at such a young age.  It’s no wonder the girl was in pain.  The turmoil that Katie feels about her feelings towards Zack after losing her husband (in such a valiant way), Robin portrays that so well through her words.  The side story of Katie’s mother in law trying to come to grips with her ex-husband’s infidelity and his alcoholism.  I could feel their pain, their hurt, their turmoil.  I loved the book!

My only complaint?  I wanted more.  That’s usually my only complaint with a good romance novel.  You want to read more about how the family turns out after the conclusion to their immediate dilemmas.  But alas, every good book must come to an end.

I would love to see another book, following up with Gracie some years down the road.  Dealing with how her baby was conceived and finding the perfect man for her.

If you go to Robin Wells’ homepage and scroll down, she is having a contest to win a hair care set since Katie owns a hair salon.  If you have already read this book, it will be an easy answer!

Jordan Did It

Posted by Heather Manning On July - 6 - 2010

Remember how I told you that Nano was saying I did it!  How I was in shock because none of my other kids lay claim to anything they do?  Well, Christiano now acts like the children that I know and love.  He got the hang of it.  He figured out what needs to be done.

Yesterday I was out on the porch for a few minutes.  I came in and he was banging away on my computer.  I said, hey you!  He looked at me, with the face of an angel, and said, what?  what?  I said, what are you doing?  He said, Jordan did it.  (Jordan comes out drden.)  Jordan did it?  He said, what?  what?

I went back into my room, just rolling, all the way there, what?  what?

Later on, he had a stinky diaper.  I know, you care.  But, it’s essential to the story.  I picked him up, laid him on my bed and said, you’re stinky!  He said, Jordan did it.  I said, Jordan pooped your diaper?  Yep.  Really?

Jordan, come here!

What?  Am I in trouble?

That depends.

He came in.  Jordan, did you poop Nano’s diaper?

Well, I might have.

I was laughing so hard I almost had an asthma attack, I’m telling you.

I shouldn’t have laughed should I?

I’m reinforcing bad behavior with another child.

But come on.  It was hilarious!

I’m not quite sure why he blames Jordan for everything, but that’s who he casts it to when he is blaming someone.  You think that Kat would be easier to say?  Or Leece?  I don’t know, but it’s always Jordan.

Poor Jordan.

The parade went on yesterday.  I forgot my camera for it.  I had it in the car for the parade the day before, but when they canceled it, I brought it in the house.  My SIL brought hers and she’s going to send me the pictures she took later on.

If anyone has any suggestions for hair products that will make curly hair that’s been straightened stand up to humidity and drizzle, I’m accepting them.

We got to the area to line up at 1:35 or so.  The kids were decked out, I was decked out, my brother was awesome in his red, white, and blue jester hat and his United States Marine shirt (once a marine, always a marine, Semper Fi!), my SIL was gorgeous in her outfit.  I don’t know what it was, but it just looked sweet.  She had on jeans, a blue tie-dyed tank top, a red, white, and blue flower lei, her white sunglasses, and a red, white, and blue tiara.  It was hippy chic I think.  She looked fabulous and I was wishing I could have pulled that off.  I just had on a flag shirt and a blue mini, which I figured out was so not the best thing to wear when walking a mile in the heat.  It kept riding up.

My make up started melting right when we lined up.  Fun fun!

Shelley had brought a crapload of beads from Mardi Gras.  I’m talking hundreds.  I tangled mine up before we even started walking.  My niece Taylor ended up throwing the whole mess to someone in the crowd.  :)

We had freezer pops in a hot/cold bag, my kids had 12 lbs of candy to throw, and throw it they did.  Plus I bought bags of those rubber band bracelets in the different shapes that I have heard from my niece are all the rage right now.

Like these ones:

rubber band bracelets

My kids love them.  Even Jordan wears the dinosaur ones.  You can get 12 for $1 at Walmart.

Shelley brought bouncy balls, rings, candy, the freezer pops (also).  We had 200 freezer pops between the 2 of us in a hot/cold bag.  Next year we’re bringing more freezer pops and less candy.  Those were a hit!  People were yelling popsicle! at us all along the route.  We figured 500 freezer pops should get us through.

The kids got to ride on the soccer float while the parents walked the route behind them.  Katiana got out of the float at one point and walked the rest of the way.  (Probably because she was out of candy and Alyce still had some.  Speaking of Alyce, cutest thrower ever.  She would take out one now and later or one little pack of nerds and throw it as far as she could, which wasn’t very far.  I was playing soccer with the candy trying to get it over the crowd, while my mini-skirt was riding up on me.)

About half way through the route it started drizzling on us, which was great, because it cooled us down.

Josh works for the city and along the whole route people were yelling, Josh!  Josh!  Josh!  I’m sitting here going, I graduated from here.  What’s up?  Where’s the people I know?  I didn’t see anyone from school, but my cousin Amanda (and her fiance) gave me some love, cuz she rocks like that.  My brother Steve was there with Angie, Syd, and Jadah.  I ran over to give the girls some freezer pops.  I knew 6 people I guess.  Turns out my friends aren’t quite as boisterous as Josh’s.  I get Facebook messages last night that they had seen me.  I would have loved to have actually seen them.  I haven’t seen a lot of them since graduation. :(   That was like, um, 17 years ago.  Holy crap.  That’s a long time.

I was cursing Pato when we got done though.

See, the plan was to leave one car up at the high school where the parade ended, and one at the beginning.  Then he and Josh could ride and get the other cars and come pick us up.  Pato had to work yesterday.  It would have worked out great if the parade had been held on the 4th, but no, it was canceled for drizzle.

We got to the end of the route and said, crap, now we have to walk the mile back to the cars.  Josh stayed with Taylor and Jordan while Shelley and I pushed the strollers back to the cars with Katiana (Carter, Cambria, Alyce, and Christiano were in the strollers).  It started raining hard on us.  We were soaked by the time we got back to the cars.  I packed all of us in, got in, flipped the visor down to look in the mirror, and shrieked.  My eye liner was all the way down to my mouth.  And we had passed people on the way back to the cars.  OMG.  Next year, waterproof eyeliner and mascara.

Drove to pick up Jordan.  He got in the car and complained about having to walk about 600 feet to the covered shelter IN.THE.RAIN.MOM.  If looks could kill, man.  You rode the float.  I walked, though after all the walking, I won’t need any apidexin.  You walked 600 feet to the shelter, in the rain.  I walked a mile with a stroller, your brother and sister getting soaked, with Katiana.  Cambria (my niece) wasn’t digging it and was crying.  Kiss my what?  You wanted to say?

It was fun.  Except that last part.

Next year, if whoever orders rain could keep it dry on the 4th so Pato could help, that would be fantabulous, thank you!

Have a great day!
