We Were Rained Out

Posted by Heather Manning On July - 5 - 2010

I knew it was going to happen.  The parade was at 2 yesterday.  We planned on being there at 1:30 to line up with the soccer club.  At noon there was no word on it being canceled.  It was barely drizzling.  I had the kids all dressed in their patriotic best, had the stroller in the car, had all of us packed into the car, started the car.  My phone rang.  My sister in law called to tell me that they just canceled the parade for rain.

We were luckier than the rest of the soccer club.  I got an email from them apologizing to every who had lined up because they didn’t know it was canceled until they were lined up.  Lovely.

It’s rescheduled for today at 2.  Wonder if it will go on.

weather

See those nice thunder/lightening clouds for today?  Though it says it will mainly be south east of the metro, so hopefully it will hold off.  With 90% humidity though, it’s got to go somewhere eventually.

Should I even bother to do my hair or put a hat on?

Yesterday I straightened my hair.  By the time we got to my aunt’s house at 5:30, it was a frizzy mess.  Even with all the anti-frizz products I put in it, thank you summer in Iowa.

At my aunt’s I had the best cookies!  My cousin Amanda made them.  They tasted like the fruit pizza I make.  I don’t know if she used sugar cookie dough that was premade?  Or if she made them herself, but it was sugar cookies with a cream cheese frosting, with a strawberry slice, a kiwi slice, and 2 mandarin oranges.  It was the only desert I let myself have yesterday.  I did so good if I forget to mention the 2 plates of my sister in laws potato salad I ate!  I was all proud of myself until my Aunt RuthAnne shoved a whole apple pie in my hands to take home.  I haven’t touched it yet.  Will power people, will power.  Maybe I’ll feed it to the kids for breakfast.

Amanda is going to Facebook me the recipe and if it’s not top secret, I’ll share with you guys because it was so so so yummy!

I also saw a Japanese Chin for the first time in my life in person.  Have you ever seen one?  Stinking cutest dog ever!

CIMG0011

That’s my Aunt and Uncle’s granddaughter holding KiKi (I think it was KiKi), her 3 month old Japanese Chin.  I was debating sticking it down my shirt and taking it home, but I figured my Uncle Joe would hunt me down and find her.  And he hunts for real.  I’m sure he could track me easily.  Plus, after I held her and she licked on my face, I started itching.  Which means I’m allergic to her.  :(   I’ve only got a few breeds that I personally have been around that don’t bother me – maltese, poodle, and my mom said schnauzers shouldn’t bother me either.  I had a rat terrier/sheltie mix when I was younger and I built up an immunity to that one dog.  After awhile I stopped sneezing.  Any other rat terrier or sheltie would send me into an itch-fest.

Taylor, Jordan, and Dakota (above) went down to the park to play for a bit.  I guess Jordan learned an off-color joke that he shared with them.  He told me a joke that Dakota told them, which if I’m honest, someone probably told me when I was about their age.  And I laughed hysterically then like Jordan did when he told it to me.  As I’m sitting here with my mouth dropped open going, oh no.  You did not just tell me that joke.  Then I said, and did you tell any inappropriate jokes?  He said, no.  Jordan, if you told any, I’ll get grandpa to ask Uncle Joe, and he’ll tell me.  Then you’ll be in trouble for lying.

He smacked his head and told me a joke that Max told him on the bus.  He thought it was hilarious and should be shared with his cousins.  It has to do with the difference between Santa, Tiger Woods, and one of them stopping at 3 ho’s

My mouth dropped open.

Jordan is in trouble.

Ok, I suppose on that note, I should go because Jordan and Katiana are fighting and throwing things at each other.

Have a great day.

Here’s to no rain!
