USA! USA! USA!

Did you hear?  The US beat Algeria to move on to the next round at the World Cup!  Woot Woot!  Insert sound of Vuvuzela here (maybe not, they’ve been said to spread colds and the flu – ew).

Landon Donovan had the game winning goal, saving the US from elimination! Did you see it?

They all kind of went down like bowling pins didn’t they?  And I love Landon Donovan’s slip and slide celebration.

Did you see Clint Dempsey’s goal that was called offside?  Replays are showing that he probably wasn’t offside.  US robbed like the previous game when Maurice Edu’s goal was disallowed.  Did you see that ref may be sitting out the rest of the world cup?  I think if it was found that goal should have been allowed it should be retroactive, but, I don’t make the rules for FIFA, so they probably won’t listen to me.

I was so worried that we would tie again or worse yet, lose.  So happy to see the United States of America team move on!  We’re first place in Group C right now.

Now it’s on to play Ghana on Saturday @ 2:30 EST on ABC!

There have been no soccer wars in our house yet.  All of us are cheering on both the US and Mexico.  I don’t think that the harmony would still be there if the US would be playing against Mexico though.  It would be 5 against 1 though.  I think we could take Pato if he got too rowdy. :)

I have read a few articles about how Landon saved soccer in the US.  I always thought soccer was becoming more popular, not dying out.  My kids’ club is absolutely ridiculous.  The teams are labeled alphabetically, ie: U6A.  The last time I helped put coaches’ folders together there were so many times for U6 that it went up to U6TT.  That means there were 45 under 6 teams with 6 players on each team.  That’s 270 kids just playing U6 in our club.  Is it just a midwest thing?  Or an Iowa thing?  Or maybe just a the town I live in thing?  When I was younger soccer was popular.  I played for years.  My brothers both played.  We all loved soccer.  We also played for the same club that my kids play for, though the name was changed a couple of years ago.

Wouldn’t it be fun if Jordan was in the World Cup in a decade or Christiano in almost 2.  A mama can dream for their children, right?

Jordan actually wants to be an archeologist at this point.  He wants to combine his love of history with getting dirty.  He thinks it would be awesome to travel the world to find dinosaur bones.

Have a wonderful day!
