Cornerstone Jewelry Designs

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 14 - 2010

I love purity jewelry.  I plan on getting one for each of my kids when they get a little older.  For Jordan that won’t be too long for now.  I came across Cornerstone Jewelry Designs and they have some of the most beautiful purity jewelry I have seen along with bracelets, necklaces, earrings, personalized jewelry, jewelry for guys, it’s just a store full of beautiful jewelry!

Let me show you some of the things that caught my eye!

Look at that necklace!  Is it not gorgeous?

Love Necklace

When I was younger, it was the ring and that was it.  Usually just a silver band or a rose (I actually got my sister a rose one when she was 16.).  I love all the choices that Cornerstone Jewelry Designs has!  Absolutely gorgeous!  I think my favorites are the Love Necklace and the “Saved Heart” Purity Ring for my girls and for Jordan and Nano it would be the True Love Waits Purity Ring either in English or the Spanish I showed you above.

For me, I am teaching my kids that waiting until marriage is the best choice for many reasons (not just religious reasons, but those do come into play too).  I think that that commitment is taken too lightly by so many people, not just young people, now in our time.  I want my kids to know that it’s not just some flippant act that you do with just anyone.  It’s important, it matters, that first time can only be given once.   Cornerstone Jewelry Designs also has resources to help explain that to your kids.  It’s a wonderful selection of books!

Take the time to go visit them.  I think you will be just as impressed as I was.

**CLOSED** Munchie Mug

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 14 - 2010

Congrats to Nicole Greene!  I will be contacting you for your address!  Thank you to everyone who entered!

Have you heard of Munchie Mug?  If you haven’t and you have a toddler or preschooler or know someone who has a kid in those age groups, have I got a treat for you!

Munchie_Mug_Blue

That my friends is a Munchie Mug.

How can something so simple looking be so fabulous?  Let me tell you what it is.

Munchie Mug is a spill resistant snack time container.  It is my best friend.  I have 2 who are so good at spilling their snacks all over the place.  I can tell a huge difference between when Christiano is using the Munchie Mug and when he’s walking around with a bowl by the trail of whatever that is following him around the house.  With the Munchie Mug he can’t tip it over (his favorite game) and spill the contents all over the floor.  With Munchie Mug, I don’t find Gerber’s yogurt bites all over my car.  With the Munchie Mug, I don’t find Cheerios everywhere.  I simply adore the Munchie Mug.  So does Christiano.  Want to see?

IMG00124

Funny angle and my old cell phone pic, I know, but I didn’t have my camera with me.  He fell asleep with his hand in his Munchie Mug and I had to snap a pic for the review.  How sweet is that?

ETA – Someone asked me how Christiano did when we first got this with how young he is.  I forgot to mention that he was terrified at first, but I just kept adding his Gerber Yogurt Drops and once he realized the cup wouldn’t eat his hand, he loved it.  It took a couple of days. :)

Here’s some info from Munchie Mug themselves -

Munchie Mug is 100% proudly made in America with safety in mind. Made of tough, durable, and recyclable No. 5 polypropylene from American suppliers, the plastic and color additives are approved for direct food contact according to FDA 21 CFR, sections 177.1520 and 170.39. Munchie Mug comes with a 16 oz. plastic jar that effectively holds 10 oz. of dry foodstuffs and is suitable for children 10 months and older. The unique patent pending lid screws on tight, assuring that it stays on and the food stays in.

The Munchie Mug has been field tested for over a year, and has held up well to the satisfaction of its users. The tough, durable, fabric will undergo wear typical of fabrics, but this will not impair the function of the Munchie Mug.

Know what else makes me love Munchie Mug?  It’s dishwasher safe on the top shelf.  Plus it’s made from 100% recycled material and eliminates waste made by plastic baggies!  Winner!

Check out some of the other testimonials about Munchie Mug.

Iowa Girls – Everything You Thought You Knew About Iowa

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 14 - 2010

Pato got off early last night and we went out to Friday’s again to eat.  On the way home California Girls came on the radio.

I said to him, how come there are no songs about Iowa Girls.  There are songs about California girls, New York girls, etc.

So, I thought I’d take this moment to clear up some misconceptions about Iowa.

    • We are not the potato state.  That’s Idaho.  (We’re the corn state.)
    • Most people in Iowa don’t wear overalls.  (Unless they are on a farm working, even then, it’s usually jeans.)
    • Iowans don’t tip cows. In fact, from what I understand, cow tipping is just an urban legend.  Don’t quite me on that.  I wouldn’t want to try to tip a cow myself.
    • Yes, we have McDonald’s – on every street corner in the bigger cities.
    • My sister in law got this one – yes we use salt on our roads in the winter, it’s not just sand.  Though sometimes in the smaller areas they use a salt/sand mixture.  And if the winter is nasty and they run out of salt (as many states have seen these past few winters) they do use more sand.
    • We are not all hicks.
    • Iowa is not all farms, we have bigger cities including Des Moines (where I live) and the bigger cities on the east and west sides of the state.  In fact, I’ve only been on one farm in my life, my uncle’s.
    • Iowans drive normal cars we don’t all drive beat up pick up trucks or wagons to market.
    • We have an airport.  In fact we have more than 1.
    • Iowans are not dumb.  We’re pretty smart.  In fact, in 2006-2007, we were the 9th smartest state.  Not bad out of 50 of them.
    • We drink pop.  Not soda.
    • We use bags at the store, though there are a select few who use sacks.
    • Iowa is a melting pot of ethnicities.  It’s not all white people.  In fact, my husband is Mexican. :)
    • We do have running water, electricity, and even flushing toilets.  The only kybos I see are at the soccer field and I won’t use them, they stink.   For those who aren’t Iowans, a kybo is a port-a-potty.
    • Ohio and Iowa are not the same state.  Promise.  I’ve lived in both.  2 very different places.
    • Speaking of that, Iowa is the Hawkeye state, not the Buckeye state.  Again, that’s Ohio.
    • Des Moines is not pronounced Dez Moyne-ez.  The s’s are silent.
    • For that matter, Iowa is a state.  Des Moines is the capital.  We’re not a city in another state.  And Iowa is in the center of the US.  You know, below Minnesota, above Missouri, to the west of Illinois, and east of Nebraska.
    • We listen to the same music as the rest of you.  We’re not out here square dancing or doing the polka in the corn fields,  unless of course that’s your hobby.
    • We get fat the same way the rest of the country does.  Bad fast food.  It’s not the whole corn fed thing.
    • We’re Iowans, not Iowanians, Iowians, etc.
    • We’re not all naive, I may be, but not all Iowans are.
    • It’s the Iowa Hawkeyes from the University of Iowa and the Iowa State Cyclones from Iowa State University.  We also have the University of Northern Iowa Panthers, the Drake Bulldogs, and quite a few others.
    • Yes, we have hospitals.  It’s the not the local doctor making house visits.
    • I don’t know what this midwestern twang is people say we have.  I don’t have an accent, you do. :)
    • We have things to do that are fun – when we aren’t cow tipping or snipe hunting.
    • Corn is not my favorite food, though that being said if it’s covered in mayonnaise and this Mexican cheese that resembles parmesan and topped with hot chili powder, it is SOOOOO good!  That’s a Mexican thing though, not an Iowan.
    • Iowa is not completely flat, we have hills. :)
    • There are 3,007,856 living in Iowa.  Not 6.

I promise, I have never driven a tractor, worn overalls since I was 13 (and those were Guess), gone cow tipping, lived on a farm, rode in a horse drawn buggy (I lie, there are hay rack rides for Halloween at Living History Farms), gone to the bathroom in an actual outhouse, married my brother (uncle, cousin, sister, what have you), etc.

I have detasseled corn.  My dad made me do it one summer for my job when I was like 13.  I did it for a couple of days and said, I don’t think so.  Asked my friend Cory (who was leader) how I could get fired because I knew I couldn’t quit, my dad would just drop me back off in the morning.  He said, throw a tassel at me.  I did.  He said, you’re fired, get on the bus.  THANK YOU!  For those who don’t know what detasseling is -

Detasseling is the act of removing the pollen-producing tassel from a corn (maize) plant and placing it on the ground. It is a form of pollination control employed to cross-breed, or hybridize, two different varieties of corn.

The tassel is the top part that sticks up.

It was hot out, there were bugs, it was so not me.

Some truth about Iowa.  There is crime, but it’s not a lot compared to your bigger urban areas.

Yes, almost every one from here is as nice as you think they are.  The only place where I’ve met people who were nicer was in Alabama.  People that you don’t know smile and hold open doors and say hello and ask you how you are.  It’s a great place to live.

We do grow corn.  Something like 3% of the world’s food is produced here in Iowa.  Not too shabby.

The thing I hate about Iowa?  All the snow in the winter.  We usually get a lot.  It’s also nice and humid in the summer.

But that being said, having 4 distinct seasons is awesome!  There’s nothing better than the smell of spring or the smell of fall in Iowa.

How’s that for an education this morning! :)

    Have a great day!

I’m off to write a song about Iowa girls.

    Maybe not.
