My Sewing Machine Stinks

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 11 - 2010

Blame the machine, I know.  It couldn’t be human error right? :)

I started out last night with this –

samplebaileys

Because nothing says operate heavy machinery like a big ol’ Bailey’s and cream (in a McDonald’s Coca Cola glass).

I fiddled and fiddled and got so excited when it finally sewed a straight line.

samplefront

Don’t laugh, that’s straight for me.

(I’ve found my phone camera doesn’t work so well without a lot of light.)

Then I flipped it over and saw this –

sampleback

Yeah, that didn’t work so well.

What the heck am I doing wrong?  The top stitched perfectly once I figured out I needed the tension on 3 and the stitch something or other set on 6 or 7.  But the bobbin thread?  Yes, that’s the mess above.  Is there a tension for that?

After banging my head on my sewing machine cabinet a few times, Pato suggested we take it to a repair shop.  Have them clean it, test the timing, the belts, oil it etc.  I was hoping if I was dramatic enough I’d get a new sewing machine.  Just a starter one, I don’t need one that sews for me quite yet.  I saw this one at Wal-Mart yesterday –

Brother 10-Stitch Free-Arm Sewing Machine with Automatic 4-Step Buttonholer

I’m a simple gal.  I could probably do without the automatic 4 step buttonholer since I don’t even know how to make a button hole, but alas, he is making me get mine fixed. I guess if I ever learn how to make the girls dresses, they shall have zippers or snaps. :)

I am trying right now to make something similar to this –

Prevue-Hendryx Snuggle Hut Small 7 inch

Except for ours has the fleece in it that looks like sheep’s wool and I got extra fabric that’s all bright and sunshiny for the outside.

It’s not going so well.  I could hand sew it.  I really could.  But I did the first 14 inch seam by hand and said, I don’t think so.  I want these made by tomorrow when Shelley and I go pick up the baby lovebirds.

I’m going to my mom’s to use her sewing machine today.  I was going to yesterday, but it started storming really bad at out and I decided it was better to be safe than have a birdie tent.

Speaking of birds.  I think mine are mad at me.  (My 5 parakeets)

Remember me making birdie bread?  It was a huge hit.  So much so, that’s what they eat every morning for breakfast.  For lunch they have chopped up veggies, and then there is seed mixed with pellets in the cage if they get hungry at night.

Now I make a 9X13 pan of it and store it in the freezer.  It lasts a week.

Seriously.

They love it.

And it’s the only way I can get them to eat fruits.  They ignore them when they are in the cage bowls.  I put different fruits and veggies in every time I make the bread for them.

I forgot to make birdie bread last night, even though I knew I was out.

Crap.

I got up this morning, uncovered their cage, and thought I’ll just chop up the veggies  they eat for lunch and make bird bread for lunch instead.

Obviously some birds don’t do well with change.

They know the sounds that accompany me making their food.  They started their squawking when I opened the freezer (to take out the veggies), got even louder when the microwave went on (to defrost), and reached it’s loudest point when I hung the bowls off the cages.  That’s what it sounds like here every morning.

They hopped on the bowls.  Looked down.  Stuck their beaks in.  Then they promptly turned their beaks up and flew to their perches.  I guess they don’t want veggies for breakfast.

Angel and Blueberry just flew over to the bowls a few minutes ago and started throwing everything out to the cage floor.

I get the point.

You don’t have to make a big mess for me to clean up.

I need to make more bird bread.

I am off to do that so they will calm down.

Spoiled rotten budgies.

Have a great day!
