Eclipse – So Good!

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 30 - 2010

eclipse2

I know a lot of you were going to see this today or after the pandemonium dies down, so no spoilers from me.

I had to say that I thought it was way better than the first two.  (And I loved the first two, but even I could admit they had their faults.)  Better acting from everyone, better CGI, better fights, more romance, more sounds that made you cringe.  It was awesome!  I know a lot of the reviews are coming out saying that it still stinks, but is better than the first 2.  If you’re a Twilight fan, you’re not going to think this stinks.

By the reaction of people as we left the theater (including my SIL and myself), I have a feeling the tide might take a slight shift towards Team Jasper.

Jackson Rathbone did an excellent job!  After reading Eclipse (3 times), I knew his role would be bigger this time and it was fabulous!  And kudos to the make up and hair people this time.  They have never (IMHO) did a great job on Jasper’s hair.  It always was too blonde for his face and it looked in the other movies like what happens when I brush my curls out with a brush.  Finally, they turned Jasper into the hot Cullen (Hale) that he should have been from the start.

I’ve never understood that before.  The Cullens are supposed to be this absolutely gorgeous family, yet hair and make up seemed to have problems getting it right as a whole throughout the first two movies.  Emmet, Rosalie, Jasper, and Carlisle, in the first movie all, well, in my opinion, the ones that were blondes were too blonde, even Edward looked like he’d been dumped in a vat of clown make up.  (Except for of course his ear in the science room scene.)  New Moon, they fixed Carlisle’s hair.  Peter Facinelli looked great.  Emmet (Kellan Lutz) looked good in New Moon too.  But, they still had work to do on Jasper and Rosalie.

This time around, they nailed Jasper, like I said.

Rosalie, I don’t get.

Nikki Reed is gorgeous in real life.  So why, to me doesn’t she look that way in the movie.  She was supposed to be this absolute stunner of her time, no one was more beautiful.  But it doesn’t look like that (to me) in the movies.  I don’t know if it’s her hair is too light or if it’s her dark eye brows compared to her hair, but it has always looked off to me.  Let’s see if they can get her looking as good as the rest of them do now in Breaking Dawn (part 1 and 2).

Ashley Greene has always looked beautiful in the movies.  I don’t know why they can get Alice to look as attractive as she is supposed to in the book and not Rosalie. Every movie I want to cut my hair like her hair.  Cute cute!  My SIL said I should do it this time.  What do you think?  It’d be a lot of hair to cut off, but I would donate it to Locks Of Love.  I usually donate 10 – 12 inches every couple of years, I think it’s about that time anyway.

I didn’t forget Esme, I think that Elizabeth Reaser has always looked beautiful too, but I like her hair darker like it was this time in Eclipse.

Robert Pattinson, gorgeous as always, but I liked his make up less this time.  Loved Kristen Stewart’s hair more this time.  And Taylor Lautner, he’s 18 now.  I can say it, he’s just gorgeous.  I won’t think lusty thoughts about him. I don’t think they could get much wrong with him.

Who knew I’d turn this into a hair and make up critique.  Really had no intention of it, but hey, it works.  There’s my review with no spoilers. :)

Jordan had an awesome time.  He had quite a few girls ooh and ah over the little boy in the Jacob t-shirt.  One guy walked by and said, cool!  I like Jacob better too.

Made him happy.

I’ll have pics from my SIL later, but you should have seen what she did for Taylor.  She drew Jacob’s tattoo and claw marks free hand on Taylor.  It was fabulous! And she looked adorable all decked out for Team Jacob.

There was an Edward sighting down at the Science Center of Iowa showing.  Some guy dressed up like Edward and when a girl walked by him, she thought he was the real thing….she fainted.

We had a Jacob look a like at our theater.  Seriously, a little thinner, a little tanner, but I had to do a double take.  This guy could have been Taylor Lautner’s twin if he bulked up a tad more.  Crazy.

On that note, I’m going back to bed.  Everyone is asleep and I didn’t get home and in bed until 3.  The birds woke me up at 8:30 chattering away to be uncovered.

Have a great day!

Oh yeah, in answer to my own question yesterday, someone was taking a picture of Edward on my car when I walked out of the theater.  It still cracks me up.

Favorite Review Wednesday Link Up

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 30 - 2010

Ok, so this totally didn’t fly so well the first week, let’s see if it gains speed or falls down and dies.

There are lots of giveaway linkys but not enough review link ups. We are always interested in showing off our sponsors products and here’s another way to do that.

Here’s how it works:

Who Is Going Tonight?

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 29 - 2010

twilight-eclipse-stewart_ff Eclipse baby!

We’re all set!  I’ve got my Team Edward T-shirt.

248245_hi

Jordan has his Team Jacob T-shirt, because he must do the opposite of anything and everything that I do.

jacobshirt_thumb

Shelley got us all Eclipse body stickers – going to put I run with vampires on my cheek.

Jordan has his new haircut.

We’re ready to go!

Pato just needs to get home from work before 11 PM.  He told me he’ll pay someone to do whatever it is he has to do at close tonight so he can leave right when they turn the light off.  Just in case though, Shelley is going to get there before us and save us 2 seats.

Woot woot!

I had someone ask on my SITS day if I was a fan of Twilight before the movies.  Yes.  I actually didn’t start reading Twilight until the movie had been released in the theater, but I hadn’t watched it myself.  I found a copy of Twilight in the clearance bin at the Half Price Book Store.  Read it.  Immediately ordered the other 3 off of Half.com.  Read those.  Got done just in time for Twilight to be released on DVD.  That’s when I watched it for the first time.  I actually like the books more than the movies, but can’t help myself.  I love the movies too.

I was pregnant with Christiano when Twilight came out DVD and exhausted.  I sent Pato up to Wal-Mart at midnight to get it for me.  When New Moon came out, I was bummed because it was released on a school night.  Jordan had wanted to go, but I wasn’t going to have him out until two in the morning when he had school.  I went to the midnight showing with my mom, my sister, my sister in law, and my niece, Taylor.  Then I was at Wal-Mart at midnight the day New Moon came out.

And you’ve seen my car –

5896_207341515550_702180550_7630113_5159128_n

I’m not like this chic, freaking out of Twilight.  Crying when I see Robert Pattinson.  Obsessing over Bella and Edward’s relationship.  Talking about them every moment of the day.  For the record, she scares me.

I just have fun with it.  It’s kind of fun to be there for the releases and the openings of the movie.  And, when I can do it with my kids, even better.

So, we’re all stoked.  We can’t wait until 11 when we can leave to go meet up with Shelley and Taylor.  It will be a blast.

Let’s see how many people take pictures of my car window this time. :)

Have a wonderful day!

**CLOSED** What’s New With Kraft? Giveaway

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 28 - 2010

Congrats to Jill Myrick!  Thank you to everyone who entered!

Print

I recently got to try a whole bunch of Kraft’s new products!  Look at all these!

88582569

• New KRAFT HOMESTYLE DELUXE Macaroni & Cheese Dinner: a delicious homemade taste complete with a crunchy breadcrumb topping.
• New KOOL-AID FUN FIZZ Drink Drops: a fun and delicious way to get kids to drink water with only 5 calories per serving.
• RITZ CRACKERFULS Filled Crackers: made with real cheese and 6 grams of whole grain per serving to help keep you satisfied.
• New DIGIORNO Pizza & Breadsticks: fresh-baked taste with big juicy toppings plus cheesy breadsticks along with marinara sauce — all in one box.
• OSCAR MAYER Deli Fresh Shaved Meats: sliced, packed and sealed at the peak of freshness.
• New KRAFT 100 CALORIE PACKS CHEESE BITES: big cheese flavor in every bite-sized piece in these satisfying 100 calorie packs.

I have to say that my favorite was the Kraft Homestyle Deluxe macaroni. (My most favorite is the Old World Italian!)  We have tried all the flavors now and they are a staple in my cupboard for lunches.  They take just a few minutes longer than the regular Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (which we love too), but it is totally worth it.  My kids chow it down.

kraft-1The next thing I have bought tons of are the Kool Aid FunFizz Drops.

kraft-3

My kids love those!  They love to make it themselves.  Watch the fizz, then drink it down.  It only has 5 calories per serving, which is fabulous!

The Oscar Meyer Deli Fresh deli meat is so yummy!  It makes excellent sandwiches.  We add some chedder and provolone cheese, some red wine and vinegar and have an excellent sub.  It tastes just as good as the deli meat that I have had sliced for me at the grocery store.

kraft-6The Ritz Crackerfuls were a huge hit with my kids.  Huge.  They were a little sweet for me.  Not my favorite thing in the gift basket, but ok.  I think I actually prefer the regular Ritz crackers, but since the kids love them, we have bought these also.

kraft-4

The Kraft 100 calorie pack cheese bites were excellent!  But, what Kraft cheese isn’t?  It’s the only kind I buy. :)

kraft-7

And the DiGiorno Pizza & Breadsticks were fantabulous!  Just what I’d expect from DiGiorno!  My kids ate that up too!

1362394AP01

Guess what?  I’ve got a gift basket to give to one of my readers!  In it you will get samples of New KOOL-AID FUN FIZZ Drink Drops, New KRAFT HOMESTYLE DELUXE Macaroni & Cheese and RITZ CRACKERFULS Filled Crackers along with gratuity coupons for New DIGIORNO Pizza & Breadsticks, OSCAR MAYER Deli Fresh Shaved Meats and New KRAFT 100 CALORIE PACKS CHEESE BITES. I wanted to let you know the coupons expire on 7/31/10, so use them quickly when you get them!

NOTE – MOVING THE EXPIRATION DATE UP TO THE 5th due to coupon expiration dates.

It took me awhile to get the deli meat and the pizza & breadsticks at my local store, which is why I’m late in posting this. I wanted to try all of them before I posted the review.  I didn’t think about the expiration date while I was waiting for them to get more of that product.  (Sold out when I went the first couple of times!  Told you they are excellent!)

Woof Woof! I made Jordan mad.

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 28 - 2010

But first, I have a song stuck in my head and thought I’d share so I wasn’t alone in the madness.

You know you want to click on it right?  Come on.  Join me in singing Holly Jolly Christmas in June.  I woke up with it in my head and it won’t go away.

I’ll get to the woof woof in a second.  I had to mention that I spent a good period of time this morning going through my inbox, if you have commented and I hadn’t gotten back to you, I was really far behind.  I try to send a reply to everyone who leaves a comment.  If the kids’ start getting into something (which happens a lot), I leave it to respond to later.  Then more email comes in on top of that and I am horribly sorry that I was so far behind.  I promise I read and love each and every comment.  And I’m trying to get back to everyone!

I only have 300 emails in my inbox now.  That’s down from over 700 this morning.  Make that 285 now.  I just deleted all the emails from my daughter’s teacher.   I figure school is out, I don’t need May’s calendar anymore.

I’m going to do it.  I’m going to get through all of them.  Today.

I hope.

I started it because I was worried that I had ticked off my regular visitors and those who always leave comments.  I don’t NEED the comments.  (I’m not saying I don’t love them either.)  If you want to read and that’s it, that’s perfectly fine! :)   I just was surprised this last week when there weren’t hardly any comments on posts.  That’s when I looked at my inbox and how far behind I was and thought, I really hope I didn’t make them mad because I haven’t responded to them yet.

I’m hoping that it’s because it’s summer, kids are out of school, families are busy, you know, my excuse for why I’m behind.  I really hope I haven’t upset anyone.  If I did, I’m sorry!

I’m also mentioning it because Jordan was kind of bummed yesterday.  He knew I was posting his new haircut and he was hoping for some love on it.  It’s my own fault.  He said I have to like it, I’m mom.  I said, well, let’s see, I’ll post a before and after of you.  But, it’s been slow here on my blog the last week or so.  He thinks he was right.  Grandma, you’re in troubleeeeeeee.  He was waiting for a comment from you!  I told him you probably hadn’t gotten online yesterday.  That is holding him over.  He doesn’t know that I am mentioning it today, so if you have a moment, will you go give him some feedback on his new haircut?

Honestly though, I just wanted to make sure I hadn’t done anything because of the comment decline.  I’m good if you just lurk.  I do it too on quite a few blogs.  I want to comment more, I have such good intentions, then my kids happen.  They happen a lot.  Do your kids just happen too?

Thought I’d mentioned why I changed my feedburner settings here while I’m thinking of it also.  Now it just shows the first 200 words of a post.  I promise, there’s a reason for that.  I didn’t want anyone to have their kids behind them when they opened up my email update and got my once a month Eden Fantasy review in all up in their kids faces.  Or in their own if they don’t like that kind of thing.  Got to be respectful!

In other news…well, really there’s no other news today, hence the post about comments, I got nothin’.

Tee hee.

I’m going over to my brother and sister in laws’ to show them how to clean up their computer.  Then my sister in law wants me to install this thing that I installed on my kids’ laptops that they HATE!  K9 web protection.  I was using a Firefox add on for parental controls, but Jordan figured out how to get around that.  It wasn’t that he was going to bad sites, it’s that the game sites he was going to weren’t always smart ones.  When I’d check over his shoulder, he’d be playing an innocent game, but when I ran spybot search and destroy on his computer the other day I came up with over 300 spywares and trojans on his computer from these stupid game sites.  Some of them couldn’t be deleted by Spybot alone, so, I pulled out the heavy guns and downloaded malwarebytes.  That got rid of it all.  One of them was sexxo.com.  Yes, the game sites installed something from there.  Lovely.  I know Jordan didn’t go there.  Not only do I check his history all the time, I have a key logger on his computer.  He only goes to games sites and watches Weird Al videos on you tube.

So, I installed K9 web protection which is totally free.  I can restrict his access with that to sites that I don’t want him to go to plus shut off his internet access period at certain times, which is AWESOME!  No more battles over turn off your computer or you’ll lose it.  He simply loses access at 9 PM and it doesn’t allow him use the internet again until 11 AM.  You can actually go through and allow access hour by hour. I plan on doing that so they can only have so much time on their computers a day without fighting me.  (I installed this on Kat’s also, but she doesn’t go anywhere but Webkinz, Disney, and PBS.)  It barks out loud (a very realistic woof woof if I do say so myself) if he tries to go somewhere that is restricted to him.  And if he tries to go to 10 restricted sites in 10 minutes, I have it set to shut down the internet for 10 minutes.  I’m cruel.  When I hear the woof woof I’ll start cracking up.  Then I get a dirty look and a “it’s not fair mom!  I can’t go anywhere” from Jordan.

He tried to get around it the other day, requesting a password, which came directly to my email.  I was rolling.  Trying to be sneaky son?  He was not thrilled with it.  Most of the game sites he goes to are now restricted.  I don’t care if he goes to the kids sites or even deadwhale.com, that’s one I play at a lot and haven’t gotten any nasty stuff installed on my computer from there, but he just randomly clicks on ads at Deadwhale and Facebook that takes him to sites that aren’t safe.

He asked if when he is 13 if I can take it off.  No, when you’re 18, I’ll take it off.  When you’re 13, we can discuss less restrictions, but darling, this is one of those whole, you live under my roof type of things.  Sorry!

Now you go have a great day!

(and don’t feel obligated to leave a comment.

I honestly just wanted to make sure I hadn’t offended

or upset anyone in some way or another. :) )

Little Grips

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 27 - 2010

Who has a baby/toddler who hasn’t quite mastered silverware yet?

raising my own hand

Christiano wants so badly to use silverware like the rest of us, but he just can’t get it yet.  He tries and tries and tries some more.  Sometimes he gets lucky and gets something on his fork after stabbing 15 times (you know how easy it to pick things up with a plastic fork!).  Nothing stays on a spoon.  Nothing.  It gets flipped around, usually ending up down his chest or on the floor, unless he wings it as he is spinning it and it sticks to my refrigerator.  After a few tries, he ends up digging in with his fingers, which makes for a very messy baby.

I have found a genius invention!

littlegrips

You look at those and think, hmmmmm, that might work!  We’ll give it a try!

Let me let the company tell you a bit more about Little Grips first, then I’ll tell you how they worked for us.

An ergonomic design that takes advantage of a toddler’s stronger grasping and overall hand-movement skills, while still allowing them to learn proper feeding motions. You will see your child’s confidence build and messiness diminish.

  • A toddler utensil designed for toddler feeding
  • Comfortable non-slip grip that fits easily and naturally in your toddler’s palm
  • Toddler feeding that ends frustation and builds confidence
  • No-choke safety design with rounded edges
  • Made from durable, high quality plastic and stainless steel
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Only $10.95! plus shipping and handling

We got the package in the mail.  I opened them up, threw them in the dishwasher (cuz I still do that), and when it was suppertime I placed them on Christiano’s plate and sat back and watched.

He knew just want to do.  Picked the fork up, stabbed a piece of chicken, put it in his mouth.  He looked at me with surprise in his eyes, and said….if you follow my blog, you know what’s coming…..I did it!

Yes he did.  The moment couldn’t have been more perfect.

Now, he even gets in the silverware drawer to get out his spoon and fork when it’s not time to eat.  He brings them to me and points toward the kitchen.  He LOVES them.  I think we need another set because I’m having to hand wash these for lunch and dinner (usually I run the dishwasher once a day, after supper) so he can use them for all of his meals.

For those who are new visiting this post, Christiano just turned 16 months.

I think these are absolutely fabulous!  Who knew such a simple change in design to silverware could make such a big difference in whether he could do it on his own or not.

He still gets messy (what toddler doesn’t?), but seeing him become more independent is so much fun!  Plus, I get more time to enjoy my own meal.  He doesn’t get frustrated and it just makes meal time go a little smoother.

You can buy Little Grips at their website.  They are not available in stores, though I hope they are soon!  I’d love to be able to run and grab these for last minute gifts that I am always forgetting. (I am constantly being told, ohhhhh…so and so’s baby shower is tomorrow, I thought I told you!)   Plus, I would love more colors!  Blue, green, pink, purple, they’d even be so much fun in a rainbow pattern!

Verdict?

thumbsup

Huge thumbs up for helping Christiano master a task that he really wanted to do, but didn’t have the dexterity yet to do on his own.  Excellent excellent product!

disclaimer

Thank you so much to Little Grips for sending us a set of Little Grips Utensils for Christiano to try out.  He loves them and so do I!

Did I Save It?

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 27 - 2010

I hope so.

I wish I would have thought to take a picture.  We came home from a day out shopping yesterday and I looked on my wicker couch on my porch.  There was something sitting there.  For some reason, baby bird didn’t even register in my head.  I asked my husband, is that a toy bird someone threw on our porch?  He said, um, no.  It’s real.  I looked again.  Yep, it was a naked little thing, no feathers, just laying there on my couch.  Barely moving.  Couldn’t even stand up yet on it’s own 2 legs.

We were searching for a nest every where.  I’m thinking it had to have been a baby barn swallow that fell.  I even asked the people on the 2nd and 3rd floor if they had a nest in the rafters of the porch above them or the rafters of the roof. (My neighbors seemed to accept the fact that I’m a tad kooky.)

Everyone looked, no nest.

There are no trees around my porch where it could have fallen out of a nest.

I called the animal rescue league, no answer on a Saturday night.  Iowa DNR – no answer on a Saturday night.  An emergency vet.  They answer but they don’t take wild life.  But she said, Iowa State University has a small animal ICU (and a large animal one I saw) and they take baby birds.  I was upset because it was over 90 degrees yesterday and we had been gone hours.  I wasn’t sure how long this poor thing had been laying there, but there was no sign of the parents while we were inside and I was searching the internet and calling people.

Iowa State told me to bring it down to them.  A 45 minute drive…….. each way.  I asked if I should give it baby bird formula .  You have that?  Yes, I do, for my lovebird.  Yes, see if it will eat.  It did.  It took a bit for it to figure out what I was trying to do, but once it got a taste, it opened right up and ate.

Put it in a shoe box and took it off to Iowa State University’s small animal hospital where I really hope they can save it.

Everyone but my sister in law and my kids were like, you drove all the way to Ames?  Well, what was I suppose to do?  Leave it on my porch to die?  I could have put it in a box and handfed it on my porch and hoped it would take off on it’s own when it’s ready to fledge.  But, don’t bird parents teach their young how to fly and how to hunt?  Plus, it’s a felony to have a migratory bird (See Migratory Bird Treaty Act) in your possession without a special permit.  I don’t want to go to jail either.

I hope it makes it.

Like I said, we went shopping yesterday.  We hit 2 malls and Wal-Mart.  Pato and Jordan got some summer clothes that were on sale at Aeropostale.  If someone could pronounce that for me, that would be awesome.  I can never say it right.

I got the girls some new earrings at Claire’s.  I haven’t bought them new earrings for awhile.  Kat got some at the beginning of school, Alyce probably when she was 1.  I stopped buying them when they started taking them out on their own after a couple of hours and losing them.  We thought we’d give them a try again.

At the other mall, I hit Hot Topic and got the shirt that I was thinking about yesterday for when we go see Eclipse Tuesday night.  I also got a new nose ring.  I haven’t worn one in a year or so because I keep losing them.  :)   See, I don’t buy stuff over and over again if any of us continuously loses the same object.  My nose rings would fall out.  This time I got a hoop with a ball on it.  I have a picture but it’s cell phone and it’s not great of me.  I was totally trying to take a picture of it in the mirror while Jordan was getting his haircut and these guys were sitting behind me.  I was trying to sneak a picture and my flash kept going off.  Can’t be sneaky with a big flash of light.

june-48

I needed to reapply my lipstick. :)   I’m hoping it’s not too big.  Hurt like a …. yeah, you know, putting it in.  Like I said, I haven’t worn one in quite awhile.  The hole wasn’t closed, I tried one of the girls’ earrings in it and it went in.  I think when they pierced it though, they did it funny.  Though, maybe it’s normal cuz my sister in law has the same problem with her’s.  The back hole doesn’t line up with the front hole.  You have to fish around for the hole.  That’s great with a straight post, but with a curved hoop that I needed to put in from the inside going out, it wasn’t easy.  I did it in the car and Pato thought it was funny to keep tapping the brakes while I was attempting insertion. :)

After the mall, we went to Wal-Mart because we needed garbage bags, toilet paper, stuff to grill out for supper last night.  Jordan saw the hair salon and said, maybe I could get my hair cut.  I seized the moment, even though we’ve had bad experiences with Wal-Mart’s salon.  May I say though, Maria is awesome.  She looked at the picture that I had found googling on my phone, Jordan wanted his hair cut like Jacob.  I think he wants to be a werewolf.  I showed her this picture of Taylor Lautner.  I can’t actually find the picture that popped up on my phone when I searched for him.  But this one is close enough

She took it and kind of adjusted it for Jordan’s face and I LOVE how it turned out.  You should have seen the smile on my face.

jordanbna

Does he not look so much better without the long shaggy hair?  He is thrilled with it!  I am hoping this is the end of the I’m going to grow my hair out stage that he’s going through.

Now to work on those abs.  :)   For real though, he has been doing really good.  He’s gone from a size 38 husky back down to his 36’s.  Again, thrilled mommy!  I just want him to be healthy and happy, if you can’t tell from the smile above, he was happy yesterday!

Let me leave you with a story about Jordan from Friday.

We had gone grocery shopping (to grill out again – you think I’d get more than one day worth of meat since I knew Pato was off the next day, but no.).  Jordan saw a lady in camo in the dairy aisle.  He said, mom!  Look, she’s a soldier!  I said, I know, very cool.  He said, should I tell her thank you?  I said, I think that would be awesome.  He couldn’t find her again after that.

We were going to check out, behind about 4 other people, when he saw another soldier.  He said, I’m going to go tell him thank you.  Ok.  By the time he managed to get through all of the people, the guy was gone.  Jordan went outside, chased him half way across the parking lot (yes, he looked for cars, I asked) yelling, sir!  Sir!  Hold on sir!  The guy finally realized that Jordan was talking to him and turned around.  All out of breath, Jordan said, I just wanted to say thank you for serving and fighting for our country.  The guy smiled and thanked Jordan.

Jordan turned around and came back into me.

Is he not the sweetest?

He has a heart of gold.

As much as they drive me nuts with not listening or doing their chores, and with as much as I question my own parenting skills because of the aforementioned, when it comes down to it, I think I am doing ok with them.
