Covergirl’s New Blast Products

Posted by Heather Manning On May - 25 - 2010

I am a huge Covergirl fan (make up period, actually), so when BzzAgent asked me to try the new CoverGirl Smoky Shadowblast and CoverGirl Shineblast Lip Gloss, I jumped at the chance.

Let’s start with the new eye shadow.  I got to try the Smoky Shadowblast in Citrus Flair.

When I first opened it, I was a little shocked at the brightness of the colors.  When I picked out the color to try I just saw smears of color, not the bottle.  I was all for trying it though because I love bold eye shadows.  I wear bold eyes and nude lips most of the time.

Applying it was easy, not quite as easy as the instructions make it sound though.  They just say to -

STEP 1 Using the rounded end of your Smoky ShadowBlast stick in Silver Sky, apply the base color all over your lid from just above the crease to the lash line.

STEP 2 Use the tapered tip to define the outside edge of the crease plus the upper and lower lash lines.

STEP 3 Curl lashes with a lash curler and apply two coats of LashBlast Length mascara in Very Black.

If you want a very definite line with the contrasting color, go for it.  I blended it with my fingers, because I think if you’re going for smoky, you have to smudge it up.

You can see the first problem right away.  It doesn’t stay put.  When I put on my make up, I had lined the bottom lash and the crease area with the contrasting color.  Within minutes of finishing my make up all of the rust color had smeared along my lower lid. I’ve found that putting your face powder over it as soon as you’re done with your eye shadow helps it with it’s staying power. A little.

If you don’t put powder over it, it tends to wear off really quickly to the point where all I had on was my brown eyeliner.

Now, I’m not sure about the other shades, but this isn’t very smoky to me.  It goes on very sheer.  Above what you see is 3 coats of the green on my eyes and 2 of the rust.  If you like a light eye look with a very easy applicator and very little work, this is for you.

All of that being said, would I buy it?  Probably.  I love the shades and with using powder it usually stays on as long as I am out and about.  It also is really quick for when I need to get my make up done in a hurry.  It takes me about 20 minutes to do a full face from foundation up to lipstick (the last thing I put on).  10-15 of that is usually spent on my eyes.  I layer at least 3 different colors to get the smoky look I want, then lining, smudging, mascara, it takes me awhile to get it perfect.  This cuts that down to about 5-6 for me.  This shade of green goes with more things than the other shade I normally wear when I wear green and I think it matches my eye color a little better.

On to the CoverGirl Shineblast Lip Gloss that I got to try in Sparkler.

I think it must just be me because the reviews on this over on Amazon are great.  I love the shine.  This lip gloss has a huge shine factor.  So much so that it’s absolutely gorgeous.  Did I take a picture?  No.  I should have, but I wasn’t impressed.  People are commenting on the taste, how it’s good, in the reviews.  I thought it tasted terrible and smelled even worse.  To the point, I gave it to Katiana (my 6 year old daughter) to use and she won’t use it either.  She thinks it stinks and tastes just as bad also.  The smell was that bad to me.  It’s like it tries to be a nice fruity smell but it has a harsh chemical smell almost over it.  I don’t even know how to describe it other than disgusting.  I say Covergirl, keep the shine, ditch whatever it is that is making it smell and taste hideous.

I’ll stick with my normal lip gloss unless they change up the formula.

So, for me

CoverGirl Smoky Shadowblast – thumbs up – if you add face powder

CoverGirl Shineblast Lip Gloss – thumbs down – even with the great shine, I can’t stand the smell and taste

How Did That Happen?

Posted by Heather Manning On May - 25 - 2010

Sunday night Pato got a tad upset.  When I have Kat and Alyce pick up the living room, I really should look under things when they are done.  He went through here on a rampage.  Pulling things out from under the mission trunk coffee table, the couch, the futon, the bird stand.  That’s where they shoved everything while they were “cleaning”.  I was told that I would not be the one to pick it up.  The girls needed to do it.  Well, Kat had school yesterday, she couldn’t very well do it before then.  Here I have this huge pile of stuff in the middle of my living room all day.  Christiano was tripping over it.  I asked Alyce all day to pick some of it up, and she doesn’t listen.  It doesn’t matter what punishment she gets, she doesn’t help.  She’s more obstinate than the other 2 when it comes to doing chores.  She’d rather lay in her bed crying all day than help pick up.

Kat and Jordan got home from school and I told them if they got their chores done we’d go to the park before supper.    Jordan went in to start on the kitchen.  Alyce and Kat were doing nothing.  Jordan didn’t want to empty the dishwasher so he asked if he could trade me the living room for the dishwasher.  Ok.  I told Katiana and Alyce to get their room clean which was trashed.  Pato has told the kids if there rooms weren’t clean by Saturday that he was cleaning them with a garbage bag

They won’t need any Lipovox for their rooms, daddy will get that access weight out of there with a garbage bag.

Something clicked and Katiana went and busted her butt and got her room done.  Jordan picked up the living room.  Somehow it was done by 8. (3 hours after it started and no, they weren’t working constantly.)  Which left no time to go to the park, but it was nice to have it done without yelling (after awhile) and taking things away and putting people in time-out.  They were both mad that they couldn’t go to the park but I wasn’t taking them at 8 on a school night.  I told them we’d go on Wednesday.  Jordan has soccer practice tonight.  The girls can go to the park there, but he can’t.

Wednesday I was supposed to pick up the trombone for Jordan.  The guy emailed me and said, I’m sorry.  My youngest son decided he wants to play trombone.  We’re keeping it.  I’m all, you can’t do that?  Can you?  Well you probably can, but you just disappointed the crap out of my son.  I waited until we had actually set up a pick up time to tell him.  Now he’s bummed.  Now I have to find a different trombone.

That’s not right.

Speaking of Jordan, it’s now 8:24 and he’s STILL not ready for school.  I got him up at 7:10, he got in the shower.  I knocked on the door numerous times.  He didn’t get out until 8:10.  Then he sits around “drying”.  The child air dries.  I noticed that even with all that time he took in the shower, he didn’t wash his hairHe didn’t have time.  Can you feel my frustration?  Thank goodness the bus was a few minutes late today.  They made it to the bus stop and are on their way to school.

My son takes longer than my daughter to get ready.  He doesn’t even brush his hair.  I don’t understand why it takes him so long.  I can be in and out of the shower, hair done, make up on (full face – not just a lazy day when I throw on lipstick, mascara, and bronzer), and dressed in about an hour.  So why does it take him so long to get ready when all he does is take a shower and get dressed.  This has been a constant battle for the last few years.  I haven’t found an incentive that works to speed him up yet.  Drives me crazy.  I think he takes after Pato, who takes longer than a woman to get ready.

Seriously, Pato is the reason why we are at Kat’s soccer games the minute before it starts.  I aim to have us there 15 minutes early so that she can warm up with her team.  Pato dilly dallies around and is not ready until 15 minutes before the game starts.  It doesn’t matter what time I wake him up. I’ve mentioned this before, but just to give another example, we were late to our own sons’ birthday party in February because of him.  Got to iron every wrinkle out of our clothes, got to have every spike on our head just perfect, got to shave some funky design onto our face.  That’s a whole other issue.

Alyce is wanting some mom time while Christiano is still sleeping, so I am off!  Have a great day!

ETA – I wanted to extend my condolences to the family and bandmates of Paul Gray and the fans of Slipknot.  I’m not a huge fan of their work, but I always follow what is going on with them because Joey Jordison was a good friend of mine from kindergarten until a few years after high school.  (Went to school together our whole lives.)

He was found dead in a hotel about 10 miles from where I live.

May he RIP.  That’s so sad. :(
