I am a huge Covergirl fan (make up period, actually), so when BzzAgent asked me to try the new CoverGirl Smoky Shadowblast and CoverGirl Shineblast Lip Gloss
, I jumped at the chance.
Let’s start with the new eye shadow. I got to try the Smoky Shadowblast in Citrus Flair.
When I first opened it, I was a little shocked at the brightness of the colors. When I picked out the color to try I just saw smears of color, not the bottle. I was all for trying it though because I love bold eye shadows. I wear bold eyes and nude lips most of the time.
Applying it was easy, not quite as easy as the instructions make it sound though. They just say to -
STEP 1 Using the rounded end of your Smoky ShadowBlast stick in Silver Sky, apply the base color all over your lid from just above the crease to the lash line.
STEP 2 Use the tapered tip to define the outside edge of the crease plus the upper and lower lash lines.
STEP 3 Curl lashes with a lash curler and apply two coats of LashBlast Length mascara in Very Black.
If you want a very definite line with the contrasting color, go for it. I blended it with my fingers, because I think if you’re going for smoky, you have to smudge it up.
You can see the first problem right away. It doesn’t stay put. When I put on my make up, I had lined the bottom lash and the crease area with the contrasting color. Within minutes of finishing my make up all of the rust color had smeared along my lower lid. I’ve found that putting your face powder over it as soon as you’re done with your eye shadow helps it with it’s staying power. A little.
If you don’t put powder over it, it tends to wear off really quickly to the point where all I had on was my brown eyeliner.
Now, I’m not sure about the other shades, but this isn’t very smoky to me. It goes on very sheer. Above what you see is 3 coats of the green on my eyes and 2 of the rust. If you like a light eye look with a very easy applicator and very little work, this is for you.
All of that being said, would I buy it? Probably. I love the shades and with using powder it usually stays on as long as I am out and about. It also is really quick for when I need to get my make up done in a hurry. It takes me about 20 minutes to do a full face from foundation up to lipstick (the last thing I put on). 10-15 of that is usually spent on my eyes. I layer at least 3 different colors to get the smoky look I want, then lining, smudging, mascara, it takes me awhile to get it perfect. This cuts that down to about 5-6 for me. This shade of green goes with more things than the other shade I normally wear when I wear green and I think it matches my eye color a little better.
On to the CoverGirl Shineblast Lip Gloss that I got to try in Sparkler
.
I think it must just be me because the reviews on this over on Amazon are great. I love the shine. This lip gloss has a huge shine factor. So much so that it’s absolutely gorgeous. Did I take a picture? No. I should have, but I wasn’t impressed. People are commenting on the taste, how it’s good, in the reviews. I thought it tasted terrible and smelled even worse. To the point, I gave it to Katiana (my 6 year old daughter) to use and she won’t use it either. She thinks it stinks and tastes just as bad also. The smell was that bad to me. It’s like it tries to be a nice fruity smell but it has a harsh chemical smell almost over it. I don’t even know how to describe it other than disgusting. I say Covergirl, keep the shine, ditch whatever it is that is making it smell and taste hideous.
I’ll stick with my normal lip gloss unless they change up the formula.
So, for me
CoverGirl Smoky Shadowblast – thumbs up – if you add face powder
CoverGirl Shineblast Lip Gloss – thumbs down – even with the great shine, I can’t stand the smell and taste
Thank you to BzzAgent for letting me be a part of the CoverGirl Smoky Shadowblast and CoverGirl Shineblast Lip Gloss
