Kindergarten Breakfast

Posted by Heather Manning On May - 19 - 2010

I got to go have breakfast with Katiana today.  It was to show parents the kindergarteners’ portfolios and how far they’ve come this year.  We had so much fun.  Kat showed me her portfolio and all the pictures in it.  She read me a book.  Took me to her favorite stations.  I had a muffin, she had mini-donuts.  It was a good time.  With 4 kids I don’t get a lot of 1 on 1 time with each kid, so I cherish the moments that I do have with them.

In her classroom – cell phone pic.  Explains the crappy quality.  I just figured out the glass that covers the lens on my camera on my phone fell off.  That can’t help.

Is she starting to look more like me or is she still Pato’s mini me?  I think she has a lot of my features as she’s growing into her face.

She wrote Pato and I each a poem –

and I love her so!

So cute!

They didn’t do this when Jordan was in kindergarten.  I’m really happy that they started it though.  I’ll take whatever time I can get with them.  I’m so glad it was scheduled on a Wednesday.  Pato is off in the morning so I didn’t have to take any little monsters ones with me.

Last night, Jordan decided he wanted to go to goalie practice instead of regular practice.  He says the reason he hasn’t asked to be goalie is because he hasn’t gone to goalie practice this season.  It is so not my fault they have it on the same night/time as his practice with his team.

I snapped a couple of cell phone pics of the kids playing in the sandbox.

If that one wasn’t so washed out, I think I would love it with the sun’s rays and all.  Let me tell you, all of the kids were thrown straight in the shower when we got home.  Christiano climbed in with his shoes on even.  That was fine because he had sand in his shoes, in his diaper, in his nose.  That’s what happens when you have a runny nose and you play in sand. :)

Jordan broke his camera on the field trip somehow yesterday.  All the pictures came out burry, like the lens was dirty.  I’m still going to post them on his blog today, but they need some work before I do. His screen is just a big square of white now, with some black, like a broken window pane.  He asked already if I’d buy him a new one.  His doesn’t have a view finder to take the place of the screen.  I suppose it’s partly my fault because I didn’t tell him to put it in his video camera bag and he just threw it in his backpack, but I think he should take some responsibility.  His backpack has like 10 pockets he could have stuck it in.  It didn’t need to be in the bottom of his bag with all of his books.

I may ask his dad to get him a camera this time.  He wants one like his dad just got on Ebay.  I’m not sure how much he paid for it, but it’s a Kodak, 10.2 mp.  I just called.  He paid $42 for it.  He didn’t offer to buy it for him.

Decisions decisions.

I’ll leave you with my thoughts on the new Arizona law.  I don’t get political much on here, but there is absolutely no way they can enforce this law WITHOUT racial profiling.  No way.  Unless they are going to ask everyone without an accent or darker skin that they pull over if they have their papers.  I agree we need immigration reform.  I’ll be the first one to stand up for it.  The way they are doing it is not right.  Civil rights will be violated if this law is allowed to go into action.  If something like that passed here in Iowa and the cops asked my kids, who are American citizens – born and raised here, if they had papers because they look hispanic, I would be the first one in line to file a lawsuit, and I’ve never filed one in my life.  I am not sue happy.

One of my favorite songs.  It’s naughty.  Drops the F bomb here and there, but gets the point across.  It has Spanish and English lyrics.  No me llamas frijolero means don’t call me beaner.

Now why don’t you look down to
Where your feet is planted
That U.S soil that makes you take s*** for granted
If not for Santa Anna, just to let you now
That where your feet are planted would be Mexico

Correcto!

**Santa Ann’a’s much questioned strategies lost Mexico Texas, California and New Mexico (including all the present-day states of the Southwest) to the United States.  You know, back when we invaded everyone to get more land?

Have a great day!
