Will The World End In 2012?

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 21 - 2010

willworldendin2012 Will the World End in 2012?: A Christian Guide to the Question Everyone’s Asking by Raymond C. Hundley PH.D.

In Will the World End in 2012?, Raymond Hundley, PhD, gives a Christian evaluation of the ten most prominent apocalypse theories causing 2012 mania.

In the first millennia after the birth of Christ, nestled in the mountains of Central America, the Mayan people gazed at the stars and calculated days, months, years, and even the future. Their calendar, more sophisticated than any the world had known, indicated an abrupt end of time, December 21, 2012. The future they predicted is now upon us.

"There have been 149 apocalypse predictions between AD 44 and 2009," says author Dr. Raymond Hundley. But will it really happen? In this stirring, balanced, and well-researched book, he evaluates the ten most prominent apocalypse theories and gives a surprising answer to the question everyone is asking.

His knowledge and insights lead to compelling conclusions . . . and a heartfelt call for all of humanity to look upon Jesus Christ as it seeks clarity and peace.

I’ve never been a dooms day aficionado, in fact, quite the opposite.  I don’t want to know.  I don’t want the end of the world to come.  I know as a Christian, I’m not supposed to worry about the end, but look on it as an exciting time when Jesus comes back for us and we are finally taken back to live with him and the Father.

John 14

1) Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2) In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4) And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5) Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Isn’t it natural as human beings to not want it to end though?  I want to see my kids grow up.  I want to see my grandkids.  I want to be here for that.

But, I saw this book, and my natural curiosity got to me.  I’ve heard a lot about the Mayan calendar from those who believe that the end of the Mayan calendar on Dec 21, 2012 foretells the end of the world.  Even Jordan has come home and told me about it.  My 11 year old has heard the dooms day prediction.

I just finished the book and holy cow.  I’m a tad nervous for 2012 now.  Raymond C. Hundley PH.D. didn’t jump into this from the angle of being a Christian and why we should or shouldn’t believe this or that.  He took in all the information regarding the predictions and analyzed it with responses from leading scientists, experts in the field of study in question, and used a lot of common sense.  He did include a part at the end for Christians, and what we believe, how the end times will affect us.  He doesn’t try to pin down a date, which someone called him on in an Amazon review.  He gives a reason for that in the book, but I think the reviewer missed that part.

Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

He doesn’t know and to try to predict to know more than Jesus does is just wrong.

In the book he covers these topics:  the Mayan calendar, solar storms, the Large Hadron Collider, Nostradamus, reversal of the North/South magnetic poles, Collision with “Planet X”, our allignment with the galactic plane, super volcanoes, the Web Bot Project, religious predictions

I was sure he would discount all of them.  I was secretly hoping he would.  He didn’t.  Some of them were discredited as utter nonsense from weirdoes (my words, not his), but some of them very well will probably happen.  Whether they happen in 2012 or not, that remains to be seen.  I won’t tell you which ones are most likely going to happen, that will ruin the book for you, but if you order your copy on Amazon , and want to find a little info while waiting, look up information on Yellowstone and Super Volcanoes.

I really liked this book.  It was an easy read, which for me is good.  I don’t read dry non-fiction books well.  I usually get bored in the first chapter and give up.  This one I started last night and finished a few minutes ago.  I’m passing it down to Jordan now since he has expressed interest in the 2012 predictions.

And now, I shall go worry for the rest of my days about super volcanoes.  Nothing like a few true dooms day predictions to up my anxiety level. :)

I Think We’re Getting There

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 21 - 2010

If you’ve followed my blog for awhile, you know that we have struggled with Jordan’s weight since I took him off ritalin when he got so skinny he looked emaciated.  He just kept gaining at a rapid rate after that and even with the doctor’s help, it wasn’t slowing down.

We’ve been watching what he eats, trying to let him have the fun foods that he likes but in small portions along with healthy foods -  thank goodness this child loves salad, unlike myself and my girls.  He plays soccer, plays outside all the time, and we just seem to have stalled.

We decided for snack at school (I think this is their last year for that, they stop snack in 5th grade.) instead of sending reduced fat crackers or 100 calorie packs of things, we’d try protein bars.  Pato bought him the Special K Protein Bars.  Then I started getting him Muscle Milk Light Ready To Drink for breakfast.  When I looked at the ingredients, it was all stuff I recognized as good for you vs a bunch of chemicals you don’t want to give to a kid.

Here’s the nutritional stuff for the chocolate peanut butter (we’ve been getting the strawberries and cream, but they look similar)

musclemilklight

I’ve been getting him the light vs the regular Muscle Milk because it has quite a bit less fat in it.  When you’re training for football season you need more fat, with Jordan we’re trying to get those muscles working to burn the fat he has, not add more on top of it.

So, after that, then he eats lunch at school, but after the news report yesterday – School Lunches Are a Threat to National Security, Retired Officials Say, I’m thinking I should send cold lunch more often.  I always thought school lunches were supposed to be healthy.  Guess not.

At night he has a small-ish supper.  I think it’s working.

1 – He has more energy.  I mentioned the other day that during his soccer game he was running faster (take that to mean running, period – most of the time he mosies anymore) than I have seen him run since he first started playing when he was 5.)  Last night at practice was the same, when I was watching him, he was out there moving quickly.  Wore himself out.  He was exhausted when we got home.  And usually when I tell him to do something, he drags his feet, he’s tired, he just can’t do it.  He’s been getting up and doing his chores, quickly.  There’s something in something that is giving him more energy, he’s focusing better, not getting sidetracked by say, a YuGiOh card he finds when he’s cleaning up.

2 – I haven’t had to button his pants.  Yes, that’s a huge indicator.  When I bought him new pants over spring break, he had to go up a size, again.  Those aren’t tight, but his 36 huskies were getting to the point where he had to suck in big time as I squeezed to button them.  He wore those to school today and buttoned them on his own.

Yippie!

I hope this continues and he doesn’t plateau out.  I worry about his heart.  I don’t really care about what he looks like.  Husky or not, I think Jordan is a handsome kid.  (That’s not just a mother’s bias. :) )  I seriously worry about what the effects on his heart would be if he continued gaining weight like he has been.  It scares me.

And it breaks my heart when the other kids make fun of him.  I’m tired of hearing about these little miscreants on the bus who call my son a fat a$$ and constantly terrorize him.  I really just want to shake them until they figure out how to behave like decent human beings.  Maybe I should be shaking the parents, because I’ll tell you what, if someone came to me and told me my child was acting like that on the bus, woo-ie.  Those children would be in some serious trouble.  My children are raised to respect others around them and not to say things that would hurt others feelings.  (Unless of course they are doing it to their own sibling.  rolling my eyes We’re still working on that one.)

**WARNING – this has an offensive word in it **

There was another issue on the bus.  When I say this word, please don’t be offended.  I personally hate this word with a passion, but in order to tell you the story, I have to tell you the word.

There’s a girl on the bus who has been calling Jordan a faggot.  He didn’t know what it meant and asked me what it was.  I said that it’s a horrible derogatory word that some idiots use for homosexuals.  That I didn’t ever want to hear that word come out of his mouth and where the heck did it hear it at.  That’s when he told me about the girl.  I said, you need to tell the bus driver that.  He said he didn’t want to because they would all call him a tattle tale again.

I said, what’s her name?  I’ll take the bus driver aside and tell him he needs to keep his flippin’ ears open.  He didn’t know it.

Here’s a conversation on the bus yesterday –

Jordan: DJ, what’s that girls’ name over there?

DJ: Why?

Jordan:  It’s personal.

DJ: You better tell me, that’s my cousin.  I’m not telling you her name until you tell me why.  You want her name, you tell me why.

Jordan:  Because she keeps calling me a faggot.

DJ:  Hey – insert whatever the heck that childs name was – did you call Jordan a faggot?

Girl: No, I didn’t call Jordan no faggot.  I don’t call nobody no faggot.

(Lovely grasp on the English language BTW.  And these children are being taught by the same teachers who teach mine?  Crap.)

DJ:  She said she didn’t call you no faggot, she’s got witnesses, witnesses that said she didn’t call you no faggot.

Jordan:  Who are her witnesses?

DJ proceeds to tell Jordan who the witnesses were, herself and two people who weren’t even on the bus that day.

Jordan:  She can’t be a witness to herself.

DJ:  What?  Now you racist?  You saying she can’t be no whiteness.  No whiteness.  You a racist man.  You a racist.

And it continued on.  Where the other cousin – the boy who asked Jordan at the beginning of the year if he was going to r*pe his sister, started in also.

It ended up with Jordan in tears on the way home and them laughing at him.

I HATE that bus.

In other news, our beds are here.  I just had to take a 2 hour break to get everything done.  I now need a shower.  And to wash my sheets and comforter.  So, I’m off to do that.  Delivery guy was a butt head, but that’s for another day.

Have a great day!

Since we are talking weight loss, if your looking for adipex p, there’s a link to it. I’m not sure how it works or how safe it is, but if you use it, there is a resource.
