**CLOSED** Stuffed Toy Hammock Review/Giveaway

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 9 - 2010

This totally cracks me up.  Nicole emailed me earlier and reminded me that in the chaos of my site being down, I completely forgot to draw a winner for this.  I went to random.org, entered the 1 – 111 comments and came up with 19.  I thought, wouldn’t it be funny if that was Nicole?  Came over here to get a screenshot of the winner and it was Nicole.  I laughed.  I hope you enjoy it Nicole!!!

When my friend Bethany contacted me and asked me if I’d review her toy hammock I was all for it.  First, we’ve known each other forever, second, she’s fabulously talented with a crochet hook.

Remember as I’m doing this review, I know next to nothing about crochet.  The one blanket I made for Jordan started out as a crib blanket and ended up bigger than a twin size bed six years later.  It was nice and crooked too.  I’m still proud of it.  The only thing I’ve ever crocheted.

You may not want to own anything I’ve made out of yarn, but Bethany on the other hand is fabulous!  Let me show you a few of her other things that I adore in her Etsy store.

I just happen to know that beautiful little girl too!  Her mom is a great photographer!  It was one heck of a due date club back in April of 2004. :)

The Silly Hat

And I am seriously wanting the Puffy Stitch Slouch Hat for myself.  If it stays cold in the mornings, I may get one for myself for this spring’s soccer season.

Now, let me show you what she sent me!

That is how she ships them.

It almost too neat to open.  But I did.

Pato got out his handy dandy tools.  On that day that I went through the kids’ rooms on a rampage cleaning, I sat aside the stuffed animals that have just been sitting in the girls’ closet.  Stuffed animals that I know they’d be upset about if they were gone because they were gifts (most from me for holidays), but they were just collecting dust on the floor in the corner, all alone.  Poor stuffed animals.

Here’s mine in action -

I think we put too much in it. :)    At least compared to Bethany’s picture above.  But, we couldn’t help it.  The girls kept handing me more.  And it held.  And it’s strong.  And it’s so cute!

See.  Isn’t it fabulous AND useful!  I honestly have been wanting one for both of the kids rooms.  Bethany can make them in just about every color plus the “crayon box” you see in mine and camouflage, which I want to order for Jordan’s room.

Check out Bethany’s Etsy store.  I would say that her prices are really low for the quality and for what you are getting.  I’ve seen similar hats sell for a lot more.  I’ve felt Bethany’s quality in my hand and it’s superb.  I want to be Bethany.  I want to know how to crochet.  My mom can crochet.  She tried to teach me.  I think she gave up.  I’ll just have to keep Bethany in business because I love all her stuff and I love her. :)   She’s one of the sweetest people you can meet.

Alright, so not only did Bethany send me that Stuffed Toy Hammock, she is giving one away to one of my readers!  In your choice of color!  How awesome is that?

Between Two Kingdoms

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 9 - 2010

021530210btwntwokngdms130 Between Two Kingdoms by Joe Boyd

In this work of allegorical fantasy, author Joe Boyd takes us on a pilgrimage to a land of two kingdoms, but only one true King. An ancient land, where children never grow old. A living land, where foundations grow in trees and rivers sing and breathe. But also a dying land, where the darkness of a false prince threatens to swallow everything in its shadow.
Enter the adventure with Tommy, a child of the Great King, as he and his friends accept the challenge to live as grown men and women in the Lower Kingdom—where hope is hidden, vision is clouded, and pride twists truth into a beautiful yet deadly deception.

What a neat book!  This book went directly from my hands to Jordan’s desk with the instructions to read it.  (For those of you with kids, Jordan is 11.  I think this would be a great read for him yet I enjoyed it a lot also!)

This adventure starts with Tommy, who is a child of the Great King and a friend of the Good Prince, the son of the King.  If you’re a Christian, you can see where this is going.  Tommy must go to the lower kingdom, and there he helps to rescue a friend of his.  The friend himself had to make the choice.  (As we all do.)

Then Tommy, Mary, Bobby, and Pops have to go on this adventure to save the people of the Lower Kingdom from the “prince” of the Lower Kingdom.  There is action, there is adventure, and there is undying faith.  The correlation between God the father, Jesus, and Satan is present throughout the book, but written in a way both younger kids and adults will find easy to understand.  I just thought it was such a cool way to tell the story.  It kind of reminded me of the Chronicles of Narnia, not in how it is written but how one thing symbolizes another.

I think it was just the neatest book.  Charles Schierbeck on Amazon said:

It is hard to know how to cast Joe Boyd’s book. I think the category of allegory is correct, however, at times I think that parable might be the better word. Rather, a string of parables woven into one longer story. What makes this nice is that you can read the book one chapter at a time, as a sort of devotional, or just plop down on the sofa and get lost in it for a whole night.

I completely agree with him, it does belong in allegory, but it feels like a parable.  I think this book would be so wonderful to pick up at night and read a chapter to your kids.  Now that I gave myself the idea, I think I will do that.  We call that “buddy reading” at our house.

I will be on the lookout for more books from Joe Boyd because Between Two Kingdoms was absolutely fabulous.  It’s really nice to find a wholesome book that I feel is appropriate for my whole family.

I’m back!

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 9 - 2010

And I’ll probably do a good post tonight or in the morning with pics.  Right now I just got caught up on winners.  Everyone has been emailed.  There are a few giveaways going on that have low entries right now, that means a good chance for you!

Check them out!

I’ve got quite a few to get up and listed.  I’ll get started on that tonight and a couple of book reviews to do.  I am getting caught up late, hence no blog post yet for today.

Off to get the first book review done.

I kind of feel like a motorhome towing a semi.  So much to do and lots of stuff dragging on me.  The dragging stuff isn’t blog stuff thank goodness.  That’s fun stuff!

Hope you are having a great day!
