Yeah it is. Time for me to put on my soccer mom hat. Ok, I don’t actually own a soccer mom hat. I actually made that one in PaintShop Pro. But wouldn’t it be appropriate if I owned that hat.
I got emails from both of the kids’ coaches. They both have the same coach from last season. They have lots of the same teammates. Jordan has actually been playing with a couple of the kids since kindergarten. Usually when coaches stop coaching and they assign a new coach, the kids get scattered about to different teams (what happened to Kat after her first season), but a couple of the kids have moved on up through the league with Jordan.
First up, Jordan. His practices start tomorrow night. I’m hoping his new uniform will get here shortly. I ordered it a week and a half ago. First game is April 10 or 11 for his age group so it needs to be here then or his uniform is going to be snug. This year I ordered him one that is the size above what he wears. I’m tired of buying new uniforms every season. Now that he’s in men’s sizes the price has gone up quite a bit too. Where as Kat’s jersey costs like $16 or something around there. Jordan’s is $30 – and he needs 2, home and away. Though, last year at home they never wore their home jersey. I guess the boys liked their green jerseys better and since no one else that we play wears green it worked out.
Personally, I don’t think we should be wearing green either. We should be wearing purple and gold. A couple of seasons ago, the soccer league decided they wanted to differentiate themselves from the school district and went to wearing green and white. I don’t get it. Won’t pretend to get it. And I like the purple and gold better. Might be that I have a tad bit of school spirit left. (I went to/graduated from the same district my kids go to.) Don’t know. I just never liked the change. And I think the new (can I call them new after 4 years or so? They had the other uniforms for 25 years or something ridiculous like that. Let’s just say my brothers wore the same style jersey Jordan did when he first started soccer. And my brothers are going to be 32 and 30 next month. When I played soccer, I joined when I was in the older division, so my jersey was different from the boys.), anyways, I think the new jerseys are ugly. Just saying, not like anyone asked me my opinion of the change before they did it.
Kat’s first game will kick off the week after Jordan’s . She plays U6 – Jordan’s U12. U6 play 2 less games than the other age groups. It starts a week later, gets done a week earlier.
Back to the jersey. I’m really hoping that Jordan’s jersey gets in this week. I should have tried his cleats on, but his shoes we bought at the beginning of the school year still fit. I’m hoping since we bought his cleats at the same time we bought his tennis shoes that they still fit. Otherwise Pato will be getting cleats on break tomorrow. Jordan needs to empty his closet and find his shin guards too. I know I saw one in there the other day when I was searching for his shoes that he “lost”. (Amazing, somehow they were put where they belong and he couldn’t find them.)
If you’re new to my blog since last season, we’re a soccer playing family. Like I said, I played. Pato still plays. He and the guys get together once a week when it gets nice out to play after work and on holidays they have games where everyone from all the restaurants around here plays. It’s the one day everyone is off at the same time. In the winter, they play indoors after work. Pato doesn’t go so much in the winter, but he plays a lot in the summer. Both of my kids have been playing since they were 4. I’m almost dreading the time when I have all 4 kids in soccer. It’s hard enough when Jordan and Kat have games at the same time in 2 different towns. I can’t imagine all 4 having it happen at once.
On a side note, have I mentioned that my husband named my youngest after this man?
Yes. My husband named our son after his favorite soccer player, Cristiano Ronaldo. My Christiano is spelled that way because, um, well, when I was filling out his birth certificate, I just spelled it the way we should spell Christian in English and added an O. It wasn’t until a few months ago when I said, um Pato, how do you spell Christiano? He spelled it, Cristiano. I said, have you ever noticed how Christiano’s name is spelled? Mensa. I think he said that with love, as it means stupid in Spanish, and surely he would never call me stupid and mean it right? LOL
Anyways, that Cristiano is playing for Real Madrid this year after playing for Manchester United for many many seasons.
His footwork is just sick.
Jordan prefers David Beckham. Pato’s still trying to convince him that Ronaldo is the way to go. Wait, while we’re watching videos, want to see the coolest block by a goalie I’ve ever ever seen?
I mean, sure, he could have just caught it but what fun is that? You got to have a signature move right? That’s the scorpion. I can feel my back cracking just watching it.
Jordan wants to branch out and play other sports too. He really wants to play baseball. Man, they practice more and travel farther. And they have more equipment to buy don’t they? Ugh. I don’t think baseball will work with his soccer schedule either. I think he’s going to have to look into a winter sport like basketball or wrestling if he wants to play another.
Pato just mentioned signing the girls up for ballet too. Alyce is my dancer. She is always dancing. Kat wants to do ballet also though.
How do people do it when each kid is in more than one activity? Let me rephrase that? How do people do it when dad works Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sun from 9:30 AM – 11 PM and Wed from 5 PM – 11 PM? I don’t have the option of him taking one to something while I take the other one to somewhere else.
You enlist grandparents right? Mom? I know you’re reading this!
Have a great day!!

Yeah we don’t do the soccer thing, it is softball and horses here. I sure wish I had some grandparent help.

Emily and I would play soccer all of the time when she was little, but she never wanted to play as a team. She does softball, but we don’t do travelling anything. It is just the local stuff until she gets into school sports when she is older.
Sarah is a soccer junkie now too and I think it has to do with The Soccer Monster Episode from the Backyardigans.
Emily was in dance since age 5, but I pulled her out last year 2 weeks before the recital. They pulled her from a dance because she was sick the prior week and they didn’t even tell me so she had to sit for an hour as the girls danced. I was super pissed.
Finally i think we have found a dance place that is not into all of the travelling and competition and “We are going to give our life to dance”
We aren’t. She likes to dance and do sports, but here, people really feel the need to just THROW their kids into dance and then it is like 4 nights a week – NO WAY!
