All these years of buying my girls dolls of different ethnic backgrounds has paid off. If you’re a regular reader, you know that my husband is from Mexico and that my girls then are 1/2 hispanic.
Now as much as I love the traditional Barbie, we all know the complaints about her. She gives the illusion blonde hair, blue eyes is what is beautiful. Her measurements are completely unrealistic, etc. When given a choice, I always choose dolls show the beautiful differences in all of us. My girls have Barbie, of course. They have her in blonde, they have the Hispanic barbies, they have the African American barbies. I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again, I’m always looking for dolls that give my girls pride in their heritage. There are tons of Caucasian dolls, there are more African American dolls to be found now, and I’m slowly finding more Hispanic dolls for them.
Where does this all lead to? I swelled with pride the other day. Katiana’s birthday is coming up on April 6. She wants a Best Friends Club Ink. Doll
Best Friends Club Ink. – Calista
I asked her why she wanted Calista over the other dolls (the blonde hair/blue eyed or brown haired/blue eyes – which actually would probably be the perfect doll for Alyce or brown haired/brown eyed light skinned). She said because mom, she’s soooooo pretty!
That means I’ve done a good job teaching my kids that everybody is beautiful, right?
She was a little critical of Calista’s clothing. She needs a dress, mom. So, I went over to Etsy and found to dresses for Calista.

Now I am looking for instructions on how to make furniture. I know I have seen people blog about how to make beds and stuff for the American Girl dolls. Anyone seen that recently? Because I did not bookmark it. At the time my girls didn’t have a doll that would fit into those beds and I’ve never been interested in making their Barbies furniture. Barbie stuff has come down a lot in price and they have tons of sets they have gotten for birthdays, Christmas, etc.
I think I want to get Alyce the doll that looks like her next.
Best Friends Club Ink. – Addison
She has almost the same hair color as Alyce and her eyes are almost the same shade of blue. That’s usually my first choice, to get the girls dolls that look like them. (Hence always looking for Hispanic dolls.)
She actually looks a lot like Katiana, minus Kat’s curly hair, but Kat chose Calista, and I am not going to stop her. I think Calista is beautiful too.
Can you tell that I am in love with the Best Friends Club Ink. Dolls? I first saw them at Christmas time when everyone was doing reviews on them but at that point I had already bought the kids their presents with the money I had allotted for each of them.
Kat just saw my blog post she can only see Aliesha above. She was like oh she’s pretty too! Can I have that one also? I said, over Calista? She said, no. I want Calista, but I want her too. Maybe for Christmas child, maybe for Christmas.
Good thing I didn’t make today’s post about everything I bought her for her birthday. I’d be in trouble with her peaking over my shoulder. I will say, besides Calista, it’s going to be a The Princess and the Frog
She hasn’t seen it yet and I got her the movie, doll, and DS game.
I can’t believe she is going to be 6 in a few days. Crazy how time flies. Crazy I tell you.
In other news, Jordan is turning into a preteen. I think we’re going to need to invest in acne creams soon. He is pointing out pimples to me that he is getting and describing how he gets rid of them. Blech. He’ll kill me for sharing.
