Ok, I really don’t hate phones, I have no idea what I would do without my phone, but I am so not happy. Am I just too picky? Do I expect to much out of my cell? The first phone I had problems with was my Motorola RAZR . I was so happy to leave it behind and get my Palm Centro
– never had a problem with that phone. Favorite phone ever. Stupid me, I got all excited about the Samsung Instinct
when it came out and had horrible problems with that (as did Pato with his). At Christmas, Pato got me a BlackBerry Curve
. I debated taking it back before the 30 days was up but thought I’ll get used to it. The last month or so it’s started freezing up all the time. I have to pull the battery out and restart it 3 or 4 times a day because it will freeze on a screen and none of the buttons will work. The battery doesn’t even last a full day. The night before last, it stopped charging. I had a feeling it was the charger but I figured with the other issues I’d take it in to Sprint.
Loaded up the littlest ones and we headed over. Told the guy everything that was wrong and how I regretted not taking it back to get the Palm Pre. He proceeded to tell me that everyone had a Blackberry but 2 people at that location and that the Pre sucked. HUH? It’s got awesome reviews. It’s so unusual for the BlackBerry Curve to have issues. Usually they are just wonderful. Blah blah blah. It must be me, I must have this power over phones. Whenever I touch one it is completely screwed up. After telling me all about how you really should pull your battery once every couple of weeks on the Smart Phones anyway (yes, I know that, but not 3 times a day) he told me it would take 45 minutes to check out my phone. I brought Nano and Alyce home and we waited until the kids got out of school, then went back to Sprint to get my phone.
They had put in a new battery and charged it. The lady told me that there was a huge update to the phone that she had downloading in the background that would take care of the freezing problem. I needed to set a time for it to install because I wouldn’t be able to use my phone at all during the 2 hour install. I set it for midnight. I didn’t even end up going to bed until after midnight when the update started and the screen wouldn’t show me if my phone was connected to the charger. Seeing as there were no lights on it, I had a sneaking suspicion that it wasn’t.
I get up this morning my phone is completely dead. How the heck am I supposed to read Dear Abby over my first cup of coffee? That battery lasted from 4 o’clock when I got it to who knows what time last night. That’s horrible. The charger won’t connect and Pato refuses to buy a charger in town. Told me to Amazon it, much cheaper. This morning I ordered a new charger off of Amazon and in the mean time my phone is charging on my computer right now. 3 months. Is that normal? Your charger should last 3 months? Not even a full 3 months. I got the phone Dec 24. 3 months would be March 24.
I don’t know if the update helped or not yet because well, my phone was dead this morning.
I want a Palm Pre and I’m kicking myself for not taking the Curve back before January 24 and exchanging it for that one. Pato used his upgrade date to get my phone for Christmas, I think I’m actually eligible for one in October though he thinks it’s June. He just got a Hero. One of the guys at his work wanted Pato’s old Palm Centro and Pato being the entrepreneur that he is told the guy to upgrade to the Hero (which the guy didn’t want) and they could trade phones. I don’t know how he does it, but the guy agreed.
I’m so flipping frustrated, all I want is a phone that won’t freeze up, whose charger won’t die on me a couple of months after purchasing it, and whose TV reception is good/doesn’t cut out because I must watch Jonas and Hannah Montana. I’ll admit it, I watch those on my phone when I’m bored after I’m done watching Craig Ferguson. Is that too much to ask out of your cell phone? I thinking it must be because those first 2 problems were my biggest complaints about my other phone, well, and dropped calls on the Motorola RAZR.
Sprint I love your plans. IMHO you’re the best value around for actually services. We get
The international calling is Pato. He got really close to me shutting that one down last month and changing our password on the account so that he’d start using calling cards again. How many times do you need to sit on the phone for 2 hours on a phone call to Mexico? It’s 10 cents a minute, which is great! But those 10 cents add up. I know you miss your mom and all, but could you miss her on a calling card rather than the cell phone bill?
I have actually lowered us from the unlimited calling plan to the 3000 minute plan to the 1500 minute plan. Since Sprint introduced any Mobile any time we haven’t used hardly any minutes at all. I can think of one person I call on a landline regularly – Miss Blythe – everyone else I call their cell. I don’t think anyone in my family even has a landline anymore. Thinking – mom, dad – cells, Steve, Angie – cells, Josh, Shelley – cells, Abby, Justin – cells. Yep, no one has a house phone. We still don’t use very many of the 1500 minutes a month, I think we used 400 between all 3 of us last month. They don’t have a lower minute family plan though on the Everything Data, which that we use a lot of. And the text messaging? I think I myself go through 3000 texts a month because I must know what NKOTB, Ricky Martin, and Craig Feguson are tweeting at all times. (For the record, Donnie Wahlberg tweets A LOT. Not complaining, just saying.) (oh and do you think Craig started tweeting because of the letter I sent him? Coincidence that he starts tweeting a couple of months after I send it? Ok, probably.) If you decide you want to switch to Sprint, let me know man. I’ll give you my number for the referral. We both get $$ for it. Win win!
See, Sprint’s service is awesome – like I said IMHO. I’ve been with them for 5 years now and don’t think I could find a company whose prices compare to what we get on our plan. But the phones. I’ve had 1 phone that I liked in 5 years. That stinks.
Pato seems really happy with his Hero still, once I showed him how to delete apps on it. He download like 50 stupid free things just because he could. Pato is not the technological one in our house. On the computer, he can get to Ebay and he finally remembered his password to MySpace. Usually I have to figure something out, then show it to him, then he’s fine with it. That’s more than I can say for me and stereos and cars. He can whip those things together in no time flat. Even if he showed me, I still wouldn’t get it. We’ve all got our talents.
Now I guess I just wait to see if this update works.
Have a great day!
P.S. I put up 2 new giveaways last night. Check them out!

It really stinks you’re going through all that. I don’t know if it helps but I’ve had the Curve for a couple years and when I first got it my battery was constantly dying on me. It was so frustrating. I finally went to my wireless carrier and they told me it was the applications I was letting run when I didn’t need them. Since then I’ve had no problems. The freezing is really weird. I’m surprised they didn’t offer a better alternative.

I have an iPhone and as much as I mocked it – it is seriously my BFF!

Geeze…what the heck with your phones? Honestly, I’m surprised they didn’ tjust flat out replace your phone at that point. With the battery thing AND the frozen screen…geesh.
Here’s hoping it works after this update thing….
@ Laura, but she loves Sprint, and the iPhone is only through AT&T right now….
This is why I’m a nerd and have a Tracfone, never had any problems with it and I don’t have a monthly bill and I can do almost everything other phones do except internet access, but I don’t need it, I have my iPod touch for that.
