ADSR Challenge #4

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 20 - 2010

Yay! Got my part done.  I have them sent off to Kristi to make the preview of the 4 together when she is done.  I’ll share that when she sends it to me.

This challenge was hosted by Digitals.

ATC’s 1 & 2. Since its the season of love, each racer will make one Artist Trading Card on the theme “The One I Love.” Think of your spouse or significant other, children, God, pets, friends, etc.
ATC’s 3 & 4. Then each racer will make one trading card honoring their ADSR teammate.

You must upload all 4 cards in ONE combined preview image to the ADSR gallery at NDISB

Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are 3.5″ x 2.5″ mini-layouts. They can be horizontal or vertical orientation. They are meant to be light-hearted, humorous, and often have an altered look but that is up to you. They usually have a partial picture and a small amount of text, the rest is decorative. You can use these as Valentines, bookmarks, brag books, badge albums, and so much more. Have fun with it!

I have always wanted to make some ATCs, just haven’t gotten around to it.  Now I had to.

Kristi wanted to scrap an ultrasound of Christiano’s and she asked me to scrap her brain scan. Perfect for altered art, no?

I kind of poked a little fun at us digiscrappers while making this one.

We’re A Team Alright.

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 20 - 2010

Pato and I.  We are a team of oooooh, it hurrrrts.  Pato got home last night with a toothache.  Let’s preface this by stating that when Pato was in Mexico to visit his dad before he died, that he had a root canal done.  Flash forward to last summer, that tooth broke.  He went to the dentist and they said that the person who did his root canal left some of the root there which is why he was having pain.  To fix it?  $800.  Pato’s work doesn’t offer insurance.  This was the first time I have seen him go to a dentist, doctor, anything in the 8 years we have been together.  He doesn’t go.  He deals.  He didn’t get it fixed.  Eventually the pain receded.

Last night he called me from work and asked me if I thought the hospital could help him.  That right there told me how he was feeling, again, in 8 years, man has never gone to a doctor, let alone the hospital, and there have been times that I tried to insist that he go, and he didn’t.  He was in so much pain he wanted me to drive up to Indianola in the middle of a snow storm with the 4 kids to get him.  I said, my parents are in town, let me see what they are doing.  Otherwise, I’ll come get you.  Well, in that time he went to Hy-Vee and got himself some ibuprofin and Tylenol.  I kept trying to call him back to see what we were doing.  Finally my phone rings.  Evidently I need to have a talk with Pato about overdosing on Tylenol.  He took 4 extra strength Tylenol and chased those down with 4 ibuprofin.  He was feeling no pain, but sweating profusely.  I want to say when I was pregnant, I was told the max dose of Tylenol is 2600 mg and the max single dose is 1000 mg.  He took 2000 mg in one pop. Hello darling.  Don’t do that again.

He couldn’t sleep last night having left his medicine at his work.  Oops.  He got up at 6:30 AM and went to the store and got some more.  When I got up he’d finally gone to sleep on the couch.

When I got up, I had a migraine.  So, I put Sun Breeze all over my head and took an Excedrine Migraine.  It’s starting to ease off finally.  Except when Katiana starts whining about how life isn’t fair because Jordan got his chores done and is playing Bowser’s Inside Story while she hasn’t done her chores yet and can’t play her DS.  I’m not quite sure how that is unfair, but in the mind of a 5 year old, I guess that means that life just sucks.

Nano on the other hand woke up in a good mood and is laying on my arm nursing as I type this.  Well, nursing and trying to put his fingers in my mouth.

Alyce is still sleeping with daddy.

I haven’t posted my Valentine’s Day Exchange present I got the day before yesterday.  Must do that now.  My partner was TheBluestButterfly.  She’s from here in Iowa too.

Feb-2010-8

Yeah, look at that chocolate!  I mean, the rest of it is awesome too.  But I love me some Ghiradelli.  It makes me want a chocolate martini at The Olive Garden.  The chocolate is gone.  I had help.  Mostly in the form of an almost 1 year old child who was begging at my legs.

Feb-2010-10

Isn’t she cute.  She’s on my key chain already.  I love angels!

Feb-2010-9

And her husband made this!  Isn’t that pretty?  If you want to look at this stuff, you can go visit his website!  I love his cross jewelry. The pins that she sent me have such beautiful designs on them and I’m having trouble keeping them for myself.  The kids seem to think they need them.  :)

Plus she sent me a recipe with everything else that looks scrumptious and I think I’m going to have to make it for supper soon.

Thank you so much to TheBluestButterfly for my Valentine’s Day package!  I loved it!

I don’t think we have much planned today unless Pato and I start feeling better out of the blue.  I have to get 2 ATC cards done for the ADSR, Kristi hasn’t done her’s either, so I’m not feeling guilty yet.  LOL  They have to be done by tomorrow night, but I think once I sign off here that I’ll get going on those.

Project 365 Day 49 and 50

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 20 - 2010

These are from Thursday and Friday.  I haven’t taken a picture from today yet.

This first one is a yummy yummy treat I got in my package from my Valentine’s Exchange person.

Project365-2010-49

I mean, yum!  Yeah, they are both gone already.  I had help.

That so makes me think chocolate martini at the olive garden. My favorite!

And Friday’s picture isn’t the best shot because it was dark when I saw this and snowing….again.  (FYI: Iowa is up to the 5th snowiest winter in history with 8-12 more inches expected today for central Iowa, so my ex-husband told me this morning when he was explaining why he wasn’t picking up Jordan today. It was an informative phone call.)

Do you remember this picture? (that’s a much better picture, I wish I would have noticed this during the day.)

This picture is the other side of our sidewalk.

Project365-2010-50

That is the snowbank that has piled up from them plowing the sidewalk.  That’s a tree in front of it.  That snowbank is past my waist now.  I’m 5’4″ if that gives you any idea how tall it’s gotten.  I’m used to the snowbanks that are telling than my car at the intersections, but this is just snow from the sidewalk. That is crazy.  I’ve been here 5 years and it’s never been that tall.

**CLOSED** KettleWorx Week 3 plus giveaway

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 20 - 2010

Congratulations to Cynthiia M!  Thank you to everyone who entered!  Cynthiia, I’ll send you an email and you have 48 hours to get back to me with your information. Thank you!

Technically I should be on week 4, but due to a child malfunction, ok, my child didn’t actually malfunction, but both of my youngest two were sick last week, my baby was very sick with c. diff.  I couldn’t find 20 minutes in a row to put him down, even slept with him right up against me when he would sleep.  Christiano isn’t 100% yet, but I am able to put him down to play for longer periods of time.  Monday I got to do week 3 of Cardio.  I didn’t get to do week 3 of Core until Thursday so tonight I worked in week 3 of resistance when Pato got home from work. Nothing like starting your workout at 10:30 at night.  There were a couple of moments where Christiano was crawling under the “bridge my legs made during a squat, but it worked out ok.

Jordan bailed on me this week.  He wouldn’t do it last week when I couldn’t.  This week I couldn’t get him to do it to save my life.  I can’t force an almost 11 year old 150 lb kid to pick up a KettleWorX if he won’t do it.  I still have hope that he’ll rejoin me this week coming up.  Maybe I can get him going on Sunday with me doing one of the 10 minute workouts when he gets back from his dad’s.

All I know is after just 2 weeks I was starting to notice a difference in him.  His jeans that I bought him in September were getting tight, to the point I had to button them for him.  After 2 weeks doing KettleWorX , you might be able to physically notice a huge difference in him, but I could tell when I went to button his pants and he didn’t have to suck in. I made a huge deal out of it, so I’m hoping he’ll come back to doing this with me.

So, I have good news though. Last Saturday after doing KettleWorX for just 2 weeks I pulled a pair of jeans out of my closet that I have never worn.  My friend gave them to me 3 years ago (that says something about my closet and me hanging on to things doesn’t it?).  I guess I didn’t give them away because I don’t want to be this size my whole life.  I want to get back down into my size 10′s that are hiding out in the garage.  Anyways, I wear a size 16 in Old Navy sizes right?  I’m assuming in most other sizes also, because the only other brand of jeans I own are Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker.  I bought those before I got pregnant with Alyce.  They are an 18 and have been too big for quite awhile now.  I have to wear them with a belt.  Back to the story, I pull these jeans out of the closet and gaze longingly at them.  They say they are a 16, but I’ve never been able to get them all the way over my hips. Never. I say they fit like a 14 since my other clothes are all 16s that fit.  Anyways, I pulled them on, right over the hips they went.

Just about fell over in shock. I thought, I wonder how long it will be before I can button them?  Pull them together.  They buttoned……….and zipped!  I wore them all day that day.  And didn’t pass out.  They were snug, but not so snug that I was cutting off circulation to my upper half or anything like that.

I have not been so excited since I gave birth to my last child.

KW_Ryan

I now love this man.

Ok, maybe not so much when I’m in the plank position for the second set and he is telling me to go to my happy place or when I’m doing girly push ups alternating arms on the KettleBell instead of doing manly push ups like he does, but after I’ve had a cold shower and feel good about what I just did, I think that Ryan Shanahan is a genius.

Pato’s noticing more and more. Last night he came up behind me and made a comment about being able to feel my hip bones without pushing in as much.  Why thank you for pointing out how far you had to push in before darling.

I’m just waiting for the day when my upper arm doesn’t stop waving goodbye until 10 seconds after my hand has finished.

I’ll get there.  I’m determined.

I’m 35.  I want to get in shape.  It’s not going to get any easier as I get older because I have noticed, even at 35, things don’t feel as young as they did say at 25.  Your only as old as you feel right?  And I’m determined to feel 35 for a long time.

Back to week 3.  Each week Ryan pushes you a little harder.  Adds a little more skill to the moves while working in moves you already know.  I’m still working on getting my knee all the way to the ground on the curtsy.  Resistance was good tonight.  TMI I’m sure, but you know it’s a good work out when you are dripping sweat on the carpet and your husband is behind you pointing, ewwww!  I said, I don’t see you doing it.

He gives me grief then about how it doesn’t look that hard.  Why am I breathing heavy, sweating so much.  That’s the thing, it looks easy.  The moves aren’t difficult.  Well, ok, they aren’t difficult to figure out, some moves might take me some more time to work myself into, such as the curtsy one and this one on Fast Abs that KILLED me the other day.  You lay on your side, put the KettleBell on your hip then lift your hip off the ground.  Like a side plank.  I couldn’t even lift my hip off the ground.  I willed myself too.  I did.  Wasn’t happening.  Like I said, I’ll get there.  Just have to strengthen those muscles more.

I’ve got 3 more weeks to go in the 6 weeks challenge and I can tell you, I’m not stopping after the 6 weeks.  I can see changes happening.  I’m excited about it.  I enjoy it.  I actually enjoy working out.  It’s not the same thing every day.  The moves are mixed up throughout the 20 minutes and throughout the week.  I hated walking on treadmills for that very reason.  I can’t just do the same thing.  I get bored and quit.  I’ve never lasted 3 weeks doing any type of exercise program so just making it this far and saying that I like it is huge progress for me!

See Ryan, I pushed past the mental burn and now I have progress! Both physically and mentally.

I need to get another picture up of me.  I’ll have Pato take one tomorrow and add it to this post.  For now, you can check out week 1 and week 2 here.

And now, what you’ve been waiting for!  The KettleWorX giveaway!  I was going to do this last week, but I wanted to give it away with an update so here we are!

What will you win?

KettleWorX is going to be giving one of you their Essentials system PLUS a 5 LB KettleBell just like I was using.

Ok, like I am kind of still using.  I cheated today and yesterday.  I started with the 10 lb and then on the 3rd set of Core and 2nd set of Resistance I switched down to the 5 lb.  Didn’t quite make it past the burn. Thought my arms were going to turn to spaghetti and drop a KettleBell.  I’m telling you, Ryan works you good!

How do you win?  Good question!
