Project 365 Day 44

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 13 - 2010

Kat, Alyce, and I just made these with my Chocolate Pro from Wilton.

Project365-2010-44

Pato and I are arguing over the color.  He said I should have toned it down, I said, that’s what color they are.  I didn’t do anything to this picture except add the edge and resize, pretty much SOTC.

Candy covered marshmallows to pass out to family tomorrow for Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day Exchange

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 13 - 2010

Domestic Dork (do you not LOVE her blog name?) hosted a Valentine’s Day Exchange this year and I thought it sounded like a lot of fun!

I forgot that we were supposed to blog when we sent our Valentine partner something. And I think it’s been long enough that she should have received it, so I’ll post mine here.

It was supposed to be handmade or homemade, I went with handmade because Anna is so much more talented than I am. :)

I ordered mine on Feb 3 and sent it on Feb 4.  I emailed my partner letting her know that I had Anna send it directly from her shop, but I haven’t heard back from her letting me know if she received it or not.  I hope she did.

I have been big on Etsy shops lately and came across Anna at ASA designs via International Blog Giveaways.  (See, all those giveaways are good for business.  I didn’t win the giveaway, but I’ve now bought 3 pieces from Anna AND have special ordered a set for my daughter’s birthday in April.)

I didn’t know if my partner had pierced ears or not so instead of going with Anna’s delectable earrings, I went with this gorgeous necklace.

Forest Surprises – Isn’t that gorgeous?

Plus, she put in a pair of pearl earrings.

I can’t find the email she sent me with the picture but she even gift wrapped it and it was so pretty!

Anna is totally my new BFF.  Ok, she’s my go to gal for absolutely stunning jewelry!

After I bought that, I snuck back and bought 2 Valentine’s Day presents for myself.

Lovely Lady Bugs

I haven’t received my Valentine’s Day present from my lady yet.  I hope everything is ok with my partner, I know on her blog it says that her mom has stage 4 breast cancer and is going to have surgery.  I haven’t heard back from her since we exchanged addresses and I emailed her the other day because Anna was wondering if the necklace and earrings had made it to her ok, more importantly, I hope she is ok.  Say a prayer or send out a thought for her mom.

Kicking Off The ADSR

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 13 - 2010

The Amazing Digiscrap Race has started!  Season 5.  I spent all morning trying to find the perfect kit for the second layout.  Here it is 5 o’clock and I just got the 2nd challenge done.

The first layout was hosted by NDISB (one of my stores -I’m on hiatus right now) and the instructions were:

1) Your layout is about your partner. Introduce your partner to us. How you do this is entirely up to you. You can interview them, you can send them a questionnaire, you can use 5 words that best describe them, you can journal how you met for this race, or if you’ve been partners for years, you can make your page about a friendship that started with a crazy internet race and has since turned into so much more. The only rule is, the layout is about your partner and you need to tell us something about them.
2) You must include at least one photo of your partner. Large, small, color, b&w, of their face, back of their head, feet, whatever. But it must be a picture of your partner.
3) You must choose one layout from your partner’s gallery and scraplift that as the page design for your layout. Only the placement of items is needed. You don’t have to lift the colors, theme, etc. Just the overall placement of papers, elements, title and journaling.

I chose to lift Kristi’s layout here.  I don’t think mine did her’s justice, but I tried.

I’m not as good at lots of space, non-cluttered layouts.  I do good  with messy.

The second challenge was over at DSAG. Instructions for this one were:

Theme: 5 things I LOVE about….(choose a person, topic, idea, etc. Be Creative!)
Title: use a combination of 5 fonts and/or alphas (example: use 2 different fonts and 3 different alphas)
Photos: use 5 photos, one of the photos must have the number 5 in it!
Use 5 different elements of the same type (example: use 5 different flowers or 5 different buttons, etc.)
Season to taste: add ingredients from your digital pantry to make this layout your own!

I didn’t have a picture with the #5 in it so I was scrambling last night, trying to find something to take a picture of.  I went with doing this layout from Nano’s perspective.

See, I do messy better.

Can I just say I am so glad the ADSR has started!  Other than their Valentine’s Day cards I haven’t scrapped since before Christmas.  I needed to get my butt moving.

Now I need to get moving.  Pato’s been waiting for me to get done with this so we could go shopping for Nano’s birthday presents. Patient man today.

Countess Of Scandal

Countess of Scandal (The Daughters of Erin) by Laurel McKee

As children, Eliza Blacknall and William Denton ran wild over the fields of southern Ireland and swore they would be friends forever. Then fate took Will away to England, while Eliza stayed behind to become a proper Irish countess.
Years later, Will finally makes his way home-as an English soldier sent to crush the Irish uprising. When he spies the lovely Eliza, he is captivated by the passionate woman she has become. But Eliza’s passions have led her to join the Irish rebel cause, and Will and Eliza now find themselves on opposite sides of a dangerous conflict.
When Ireland explodes in bloody rebellion, Will’s regiment is ordered to the front lines, and he is forced to choose between his duty to the English king and his love for Eliza and their Irish homeland.

I love historical romances.  Countess of Scandal was no exception! The book starts out with an encounter between a young Eliza and William who have feelings for each other.  Eliza’s parents want her to marry Count Mont Clare and William has joined the army, which is completely against everything that Eliza believes in.  Then we flash forwards to the present (the present for them, not the present for us).

They meet again at a dance and though the now widowed Eliza doesn’t want to admit it, she still has feelings for the Major.

The odds are staked against this couple because Eliza is for the Irish uprising and William is there working for the King to stop it.

Eliza is always in danger, writing illegal pamphlets, sneaking around to find information for the rebels, there are whispers about her involvement.  If she is caught she could be hung.  William is determined to keep her out of trouble but with his own duties, that isn’t very easy.

William is always torn between duty and what his heart is telling him.  He’s always done what he has felt was his duty, duty to his family and duty to the crown.

While you are reading this tale of 2 lovers, you get a peak into what it was like for the Irish during this bloody time in their history.  Laurel McKee is able to tell this story in a way that makes you not want to put the book down.  You just want to keep turning pages.

How can 2 people who are at such odds politically ever make it work?

I can’t tell you because then you wouldn’t want to read it yourself and it is a wonderful read!

You can buy Countess of Scandal on Amazon and you could also win one of 5 copies here on my blog!  I highly recommend this book!
