Before I Was A Mom

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 4 - 2010

I just read this over on Natural Mommie’s blog. Her mom sent it to her, and I had to share.  How sweet is this:

Before I was a Mom,
I never tripped over toys
or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn’t worry whether or not
my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a Mom ,
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind
and my thoughts.
I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom ,
I never held down a screaming child
so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night
watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom ,
I never held a sleeping baby just because
I didn’t want to put him down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn’t stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small
could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom .
Before I was a Mom ,
I didn’t know the feeling of
having my heart outside my body..
I didn’t know how special it could feel
to feed a hungry baby.
I didn’t know that bond
between a mother and her child.
I didn’t know that something so small
could make me feel so important and happy.
Before I was a Mom ,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth,
the joy,
the love,
the heartache,
the wonderment
or the satisfaction of being a Mom …
I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much,
before I was a Mom .

*sniffling* So true.

Project 365 Day 35

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 4 - 2010

Supper is done!  Ok, it’s not done, but it’s done. If you read my post today, Christiano is sick.  I took a few minutes while he was playing good to throw chili together in the crock pot.  Now, I know in my recipe I said to cook the meat first, but I didn’t have time, I was racing a baby who would get cranky at any minute.  My mom makes it this way and it’s always good.  I just cook it before I stick it in in case for some reason we have to eat sooner than anticipated.  The rest is hot and I know the meat is cooked thoroughly. No soccer tonight, nothing special to do, so it’ll have a good long time to get done.

Waiting On The Doctor

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 4 - 2010

I called this morning to see if he wants to see Christiano or if he just wants me to watch him.  I’ve learned to call before I come. 90% of the time I get, it’s a virus.  Just watch him.  So now I call and give the symptoms first unless my mommy radar is going nuts, then I go straight in.  He threw up again yesterday morning, once last night, and has had some nasty diapers.  The one this morning was fun to change.  Out the top, up to his neck and out the leg holes, down to his knees.  My house still smells.  Not that you want details about it, but it’s my blog and I’ll gross ya’all out if I want to. :)

He’s still nursing good though not eating food much.  He threw a complete and total toddler tantrum and tried crawling all over her when he saw wanted Alyce’s cheese stick this morning so we got him one out and he’s eaten about half of it so far.  Let’s see if he keeps that down.

Poor child has had so many showers in the last few days he is going to prune up permanently.  But, when you are leaking the stuff he is all over himself, you have to get clean again.

Alyce got up this morning barking like a seal.  (cough)  When I asked Nano if he was a sick baby, Alyce looked at me with this pitiful expression and said, I’m a sick girl.  Yes baby, you are.

It’s not unusual for my kids to be sick at the same time, but it is unusual for them to have completely different things like this.  Usually they pass the same thing back and forth, back and forth, until everyone in the house has had the joy of partaking in the virus and the germs.

So far Kat and Jordan seem to be healthy.  *knock on the proverbial wood*

Pato and I just started talking about the rash on his face too.  He has a few spots that look like little pimples.  I looked up hand, foot, and mouth disease and it doesn’t look like he has those symptoms.  He’s had the little rash for a few days, but they haven’t developed into anything else.

I need to get my dishes done.  Christiano was so cranky I didn’t get them done last night and they are stacked up.  Not cool.  As soon as he lets me put him down again, I’ve got to get on that.  I think I’ll wait until he takes a nap because when I do dishes, he likes to help by taking everything off the bottom shelf.  Such a good helper

That’s not right.  I mean, it might be right, but that’s not right.  Ricky is just a fountain of information.

Have a great day! Send some healing thoughts our way.

KettleWorX – Week 1 done

Posted by Heather Manning On February - 4 - 2010

I don’t have pictures to show because the kids were not cooperating with me.  But, we made it through week 1.

I love this workout!  The first 2 days of the workout had my muscles begging for relief, but I continued on.  Pato had told me, keep doing it.  The more you stretch them out, the less it will hurt.

Last night Jordan and I started week 2 of the KettleWorx DVDs and Ryan Shanahan kicked that up a notch.  I did resistance again because well, I accidentally started on that, did Cardio and Core Friday and Monday.  That took me back to Resistance yesterday.  I think that’s the hardest one for me.  Pushing those muscles past their comfort zone.  I think it’s important to say again that this is low impact.  I have a rough time with my knees and lower back when I do high impact aerobics, jogging, all that jazz.  (One of the reasons I haven’t run in years.)  KettleWorx doesn’t bother me at all in those normal problem areas.  Now, if you have the same problems that my mom has with her back, I wouldn’t suggest doing this straight out of the box.  I would talk to your doctor first.  Which you should do before starting a new exercise routine anyway.

Week 2 resistance, like I said Ryan ups the sweat factor in this one.  Who am I kidding?  I was sweating like a dog after the first workout last week.  By the end of the last 2 DVDs for the week I was getting really confidant and not quite sweating as much, still working the muscles, but they were a good sore.

Last night, even with one time of having to pause the DVD, I was dripping.  Not that you want to know that, but it’s just to show the kind of workout you can get in 20 minutes, without running and jumping.  I was squatting and lunging, and can I tell you how proud I was that I was able to hold the plank position during both sets without falling on my face this time?

Seriously, that’s progress!  Ryan told me to go to my happy place, I told him, I don’t think I have a happy enough place, but I still held it.  If you’re wondering what the plank is, you get down on the ground, the Kettlebell on the floor, but in your hands.  Forearms resting on the ground, then you are also on your toes. Kind of the beginning of a push up, without going down into the push up.  Your abs will start hollering at you after a few seconds.  But you breathe, breathe, breathe, and attempt to find a happy place.  Then you collapse on the floor.  Ok, last night I actually got to my knees instead of collapsing out of the plank.  I was mighty proud of myself.

Now I need to work on my balance because I’m a tad bit tipsy on one foot for some of the exercises.

Now, since I don’t have a scale, I’ll tell you how I feel I’ve progressed after week 1.  I’ve noticed that the tummy flab has backed off a little bit at the bottom.  My legs feel a little stronger, in fact, I can actually feel my thigh muscles.  Now, I’m not ripped yet like Ryan.

KW_Ryan

or like Miss Kim, who’s abs just kill me when I watch her in the DVDs.  It’s just not right that she can lay on the ground and do things resembling crunches and her stomach looks good!  Mine looks like pudding.

KW_Kimberly

She’s a darn good example when you’re watching to see what muscles are actually doing.  Not an ounce of fat there.  I’m hoping my muscles move like that under my extra layers I have going on.  They should be right?

I can honestly say, that looks really good on him, but that is not my goal.  My goal is to wear shorts and t-shirts this summer and not feel like a cow.  My goal is not to have this big old pooch.  My stomach is funny in that I carry my extra weight above my belly button and below my chest.  My lower stomach is flatter (notice I say -er, not flat by any means flat) than my upper stomach.  I think that’s because I carried my kids up high.  It looked the same when I was pregnant.  The kids were always right under my chest and down low in my stomach was flatter until they dropped.  I’ve kept that pooch up high and hate it!

Jordan has been doing it on our scheduled days too.  He’ll moan and groan, but then he’ll start and have a big smile on his face when he’s done while telling me your turn mom.  Though, he was a little upset that he had to curtsey during the workout last night, because “I ain’t no woman”.  First, there is nothing wrong with being a woman, second, call it a cross over lunge, then you won’t feel like you’re curtsying son.

Speaking of that move, I can’t make it all the way to the ground with that back knee yet.  I’ll get there, if I went farther than about 1/2 way down, I’d fall over sideways, amusing for my kids, not so great for my work out as I miss the next few moves getting up. :)

I did notice that I could button Jordan’s jeans a little easier this morning.  His jeans that we got him for school in September are already tight.  I didn’t have to pull so hard to get the button closed.  So, I think it’s doing some good for him too.  And that’s just after 1 week.

Heather from KettleWorx emailed me and told me they are sending us an extra 5 lb Kettlebell and a 10 lb Kettlebell so that Jordan and I can actually do our workouts together instead of one and then the other.  That should kick up the competition factor (though let’s face it, Jordan is in better shape than me, in the fact that he does PE 3 times a week, rides his bike – he was able to get it out yesterday, plus he is active at recess, and soccer season starts up next month).

I have to say that I am really enjoying KettleWorx.  Who thought I would ever say I enjoyed working out?  I’ve always hated exercise, but this has been fun and I look forward to my days when it’s time to get it out. I think it’s because even though it’s working me, my heart rate is up, I’m sweating, etc, it’s not hard.  The moves are very straight forward.  I’m not struggling to get into position (ie: yoga, which I love, but have have the hardest time getting into some of the positions correctly).  It also doesn’t hurt me while I’m doing it.  I’ve done some exercise programs where my knees are just creaking and popping and hurting and I’m in pain the next day.  Not just sore muscles from using them, but actually pain.  It helps too that each workout is 20 minutes.  When I have to workout for an hour at a time, I dread it every day, not to mention the fact, that I never have a straight hour to myself where I could do it.

I think today I’m going to get out one of the other DVDs that came with it and throw in another workout besides the Cardio, Resistance, and Core.  I’ve also got -

KW05fastabs

KW06fastfatburn

I think I’ll try the Fast Fat Burn today because lord only knows I need it.

See you back here next week with week 2 finished and the giveaway for the KettleWorx Essentials system PLUS a 5 LB KettleBell.  We’ll get the kicked off and give it away at the end of my 6 weeks to my total body transformation.

Countess of Scandal

By Laurel McKee

As children, Eliza Blacknall and William Denton ran wild over the fields of southern Ireland and swore they would be friends forever. Then fate took Will away to England, while Eliza stayed behind to become a proper Irish countess.
Years later, Will finally makes his way home-as an English soldier sent to crush the Irish uprising. When he spies the lovely Eliza, he is captivated by the passionate woman she has become. But Eliza’s passions have led her to join the Irish rebel cause, and Will and Eliza now find themselves on opposite sides of a dangerous conflict.
When Ireland explodes in bloody rebellion, Will’s regiment is ordered to the front lines, and he is forced to choose between his duty to the English king and his love for Eliza and their Irish homeland.

I adore a good historical romance and I cannot wait to read Countess of Scandal!  It looks wonderful!
