Plumpy Nut

Posted by Heather Manning On January - 26 - 2010

You can see more about it in

Malnutrition in Haiti:

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

ECHO and UNICEF promote Plumpy’nut production to improve child nutrition in Niger

It just breaks my heart with all we have here in the US and in so many parts of the world, with the technology we have, that children are still dying because there is no food.

I think Plumpy Nut is now going to be one of my charities of choice.

ETA – via a comment I put a more reliable link up to donate to Plumpy Nut. You can also donate via IntenseDebate NotificationDoctors Without Borders, ACF, UNICEF.  Thank you to the commenter for letting me know!

I want to make sure everyone knew because I do do reviews here that this is something I just came across.  No one asked me to post it.  I’m getting nothing from it.  I just feel that it is important.

My Life Starring……

Posted by Heather Manning On January - 26 - 2010

First, note to my children’s school.  If every school in a hundred mile radius around us is having a late start or closed AND posted it the night before, do you really think that the weather is going to change over night?  That the 8 inches of snow we got and the blizzard conditions are going to fade?  Couldn’t you post our 2 hour late start before I go to bed too?  I checked again at 2 in the morning, just to make sure.  It would be nice to not have to set the alarm for 7 if I don’t have to get up until 8.  Just a request.  Just speaking from experience, from seeing other schools close the night before and watching our school live in their own little sun filled bubble where it must not snow until 6 in the morning when someone in charge says, crap…..we can’t send the busses out on the roads like this. No need to listen to me.

I got an invitation to a new Facebook group, Your Life Spelled Out.

This will be a daily starting place with words or questions that will inspire you to reach within yourself and unlock your thoughts and your creativity.

The prompt today was -

Imagine for a moment that your life has been made into a movie. Who would you want to play the role of YOU? Why? Any other key characters that you would like to cast? Who would play them. What would the movie be rated and why? Would you have a theme song? Let your imagination go. This is a fun assignment but also a very revealing one if you look closely at your answers.

I highly doubt anyone would want to watch a movie of my life now as I know it.  It would be a never-ending story of a stressed out work at home mom to 4 who doesn’t sleep enough.  There would be no end to it until all children reached 18.

So, let’s go with my stupid after high school years before children.

Let’s go with Alyssa Milano, only because once when I was younger, someone told me I looked like Sam from Who’s The Boss.  Never happened again, but I loved that person for it.

She’s way prettier than me, but we’ll work with it.

We’ll have Tom Felton play my crazy psycho mean ex-boyfriend who used to throw me around.  Not cuz I have the hots for Tom, but because he plays evil so well.  And Scott had that blonde hair.  Just need to curl it up.  When I finally left Scott I finally put my foot down.  No man would ever lay their hand on me again as I continued to let them do it.

Penelope Cruz can play my best friend Danielle, who did some of those same stupid things.

We’ll let Meryl Streep play the ever patient but frustrated mother to the 20 something who just can’t seem to make the right choices.  Though, that’s probably not the best movie to pull an image of Meryl from if I’m going for patient.  Just went with that one cuz she has short hair there and my mom wears hers short.

We’ll let a bearded Brad Pitt play the not quite as patient yet equally frustrated father.

I drove my parents nuts.  Trying to think who could play my siblings.

Let’s go with James and Oliver Phelps to play my brothers, who are not really twins – they are 2 years apart – but who were mistaken for twins their whole life. I don’t see it.  Got to fix the boys’ hair here to a dirty blondish-brownish.

And my sister. She would have been like 9 when I was 20.  So we need a child actress.

Let’s go with a young Dakota Fanning, since this is make believe, let’s pretend Dakota is still young and not a blood sucking vampire with scary powers.

We’ll let Joey Joridson play himself.  A guy from school who worked at the gas station we hung out at many many many nights all night while trying to hit it big. (For the record, Joey never did drugs, he just kept us entertained.) He was a good friend, easy to talk to, and had a wicked sense of humor, not to mention talent like you wouldn’t believe on the drums.  Ok, if you’re a fan of his now, you know how talented he is.  I don’t listen to him much now.  I liked his stuff he played back then when he was in Modidious (playing our 8th grade mixers) and The Rejects.

I don’t think I’ve ever admitted this on my blog, but if we’re writing a movie about me, I guess I’ll go ahead and release it though I’m embarrassed for that girl during those years.  I am proud that I turned my life around and didn’t destroy myself.

It’d be a movie about a girl who loses her way after high school, got hooked on crank for about 3 years, made a lot of bad decisions, including the one about letting a guy beat on her, but who eventually got clean on her own, and turned her life around. It’s not a perfect life, but it’s my own and I’m happy with it now.

We’ll make the ending song as the credits roll I’ve Got A New Attitude.

Read New Attitude Lyrics here.

So, that’s my movie.  Not sure how many people would want to watch it, but with that cast at least it would be entertaining.

And today’s Ricky Martin tweet of the day is brought to you by Joey McIntyre.  LOL  Actually, I just am happy about Joey’s tweet -

YAY!  One Too Many: Live from New York is my favorite Joey McIntyre CD and Eman is awesome on it.  I’ve got Favorite Enemy by Eman and it is one of my favorites!

Have a great day!
