My friend Bobbie pointed out that this post needed an update. You can read about the whole mess here, but basically, after 2 years of my being with them, they went out of business over night, being taken over by a company that had horrible reviews. After my site being down for days, I jumped to Host Duplex.

I don’t do a lot of technical reviews on my blog, but this one just won’t stop. Let me tell you the story of Prolink hosting aka eBMH Inc aka Fat Network.
I signed up with this hosting company over 2 years ago, back then it was billed as Prolink Hosting. You get what you pay for. I believe mine was an unlimited account. Immediately started having problems, not able to connect to FTP. The site was unbelievably slow. The woman who was setting up my store for me had never seen such a horrible webhost, I had contacted them multiple times regarding the problems I was having. Nothing. So, I requested their refund. Guaranteed. I was well within my time limit. Nothing. So, I filed a Paypal dispute. Just about immediately, I got my refund, and a nasty letter about how nobody has problems with their services.
The next year I have this charge come out of my Paypal account that I hadn’t authorized or remembered subscribing too. It was from eBMH Inc. After doing some research, it turns out that even though I had canceled my account with Prolink hosting, they were now billing under this, and my subscription wasn’t canceled. Paypal wouldn’t give me back my money, I assume based on my own stupidity for not canceling the subscription. So, I canceled the subscription, and I let it go.
Now this week, I get a bill from Fat Network. I had to research again to see that this is Prolink hosting/eBMH INC masquerading under yet ANOTHER name. They will interrupt my service if I don’t pay my bill, since I got smart and canceled the subscription. Exactly what service are they going to interrupt? I pay my UCWebhost bill. That’s who my webhosting is with and my domain is through GoDaddy, though if I could figure out how to switch my domain name over to UCWebhost, I would to keep it all under one roof, though I have never had a problem with GoDaddy either, they’ve always had great customer service and been awesome to me, changes to my domain have come quickly, no trashing on GoDaddy from me. Exactly what are they (Fat Network) going to cancel? I had better contact UCWebhost and make sure there is no way Fat Network can get to my account now that I have sent them a letter telling them exactly how I feel about them and their business practices.
Stay far far away from any company named Prolink Hosting, EBMH Inc, and Fat Network. They are a webhosting scam. My true advice? Stay away from any company that offers unlimited anything for $10/year. It isn’t worth the time and effort involved to clean up their mess.
Now, UCWebhost? That is a wonderful company. In the beginning they got a little overwhelmed by us digital scrapbookers, learning very quickly that we take up a lot of bandwidth with our big downloads from our store. They quickly upgraded their servers just for us. They stood by their 100% uptime guarantee. I have gotten credit anytime that my site has been down, which since they upgraded their servers is very rare. They are quick to respond to problems. Everything has always been taken care of within an hour, and that’s via email. I have never needed to try to contact them over the phone because they are so zippy via their help tickets.
ETA – Told you they were quick. I just sent my question in 15 minutes ago and Nate has already verified that all of my data is with them and that Fat Networks cannot get to my site. Thanks Nate!
I would never switch from UCWebhost. The value that I am getting for the price I am paying is outrageous, in a good way. I don’t think they have my plan available any longer, but you can still find really reasonable plans through them and they are out to take care of us digital scrapbookers. They now know what it takes to have us as customers and are trying to go above and beyond what we need. What does that mean to the average customer setting up a site? If they can handle digital scrapbook stores, they can handle anyone. We are working with zips that are 70 + MBs at times, if not larger. A big store can have 100′s of people in it shopping at once with many others downloading their purchases in the background and the store stays up. They aren’t going to go down on you if they don’t go down on us.
I’ve been with them now for 2 years and after my never ending experience (this is going on 3 years of problems AFTER cancellation) with Prolink hosting or whatever name they are calling themselves by now, UCWebhost has been a breath of fresh air. They are what a webhosting company should be!
I feel better now after warning the world. After I check with UCWebhost, I’m going back to bed.
Linking to reviews for ProLink Hosting and Fat Network. I think the people who wrote good reviews for them (because there aren’t many) are the owners of the company.
Have a great day! Thanks for letting me get that tidbit of info off my chest and to feel like maybe I helped someone not get screwed over by that company!
Check back later on my other blog, I have the giveaways I entered linked up (might be sooner than later if I can’t go back to sleep.
ETA -
I just went over to UCWebhost to send in a ticket regarding my issue and to make sure Fat Networks can’t touch my domain, and found their current pricing -
Starter hosting for a personal website is $2.95/month. Budget hosting is $4.95/month. And the first business package is $21.95/month. The plan I have is no longer available, and it fell between the Budget and the first business package. If you’re looking for an affordable webhost who actually cares about their clients, their clients’ sites, and their clients’ business, check them out.
Isn’t getting angry a good fat burner? If it is, I should burn lots of today. Fighting this company for years is getting a tad bit ridiculous.
