Tell me. I’ve been sitting here thinking for a week or so that today, Tuesday, was going to be Dec 2. December 2 is Alyce’s 3rd birthday. It dawned on me yesterday afternoon that yesterday was indeed not December 1. I ordered her cake, planned her party, got the child excited to open her presents, all of that round the fact that today would be December 2. Oops.
I called, the cake was already made. Pato can only take one of the days off, not both. He wants to be home for her actual birthday and party. (Shouldn’t parent number 2 have stepped in and said, um, honey, you might be going slightly insane because today isn’t the 1st.) So, we’re saving the cake for tomorrow. Family has all been called and told not to come until tomorrow night. And the 3 year old to be has her heart broken about the presents.
I’m a bad mommy.
Even after figuring out that yesterday was not December 1st, I did it again. Pato pays our electric bill at one of the pay stations because they charge a fee to pay it via credit card online or over the phone and we don’t use checks for hardly anything. He’s one of those pay the bill on the date it’s due type of people, I’m not, so it drives me crazy and stresses me out. I got out the bill last night and said, crap! It was due today. He looked at it and said, I’ll pay it on the way to work tomorrow. No, it’s due December 1. So, it’s due today (not today yesterday, today, Dec 1). What is wrong with me? (and him, since again, he didn’t tell me that yesterday was November 30th.)
Yesterday was just a day of lovely things. I got this email sent to all the parents -
Ms. insert teacher’s name wanted me to remind you that my students have a family history project due tomorrow, Dec 1. She was concerned that many children have not yet begun this project. It was assigned Nov. 19. Your child should have brought home an explanation of the expectations. If you have any concerns, please feel free to email her at
and my response -
NICE! (as in nice Jordan) I haven’t seen anything about this from Jordan. I’m hoping that he knows where the paper is because I don’t have it on my desk with his other paper work.
You have got to be kidding me son. I have asked you every night if you had anything that needed to be done. Nothing has been said about a family history project. (According to Jordan, the paper is in his social studies folder AT SCHOOL, you know how easy it is for us parents to read things across miles, inside a building, inside a folder. Yep, I’m psychic like that.)
Response back from teacher -
I know that Jordan told Ms. insert teacher’s name that he wouldn’t have it done by tomorrow because he didn’t have any supplies at home. Ms. insert teacher’s name gave him a piece of posterboard and told him to make a family tree of his mom’s side of the family. He told her that would be too big! Just an FYI!
We don’t have the supplies?! Only because you didn’t tell me that you needed to have it done. So, last night, I got to make a family tree while trying to get dinner done, while taking care of the 3 other kids. And I’ll tell you, I’m trying to figure out whose project this was. I know who is in my family tree. Jordan got to glue and tape. I got to do everything else. (If we wanted it legible.)
Here’s how his header turned out -

I didn’t keep track of the credits because I wasn’t posting it in galleries and forgot that I might post it on my blog. I know the alpha is mine, the tree is Kim B’s, the bird in the back is Anita Stergiou, and I think the flowers are Armina’s. But, I can’t remember whose the butterfly and grass belong too.
There were other things that just made me say, anything else someone wants to throw at me? Never ask that.
Because there is always the Mama’s law. We don’t leave by Murphy’s law around here. Mama’s law is in effect. It says, that just when you think that you have had everything thrown at you, that nothing else can happen, someone will poop all over you.
Thanks Christiano. Meant that literally. You thought it was going to be figurative, didn’t you? Somehow it was on Kat and me. That was fun.
Alright! We’ve got the winners of Tiff’s giveaway!

Kari was comment #5 and #13 and #14 were pings from myself when I linked to it, so we’ll head to the next one, #15 was sleeping beautie!
Congrats ladies! I’ll be emailing you Tiff’s coupons to pick up your prizes!
And I have to share, I did have a bright spot in my evening last night. I got an email from the Bragging Mommy that I won her Goldberger Seedlings giveaway. A little adorable baby to add to Alyce’s Christmas presents. She does love her babies. Thank you! That made me so happy!
Now you all go forth and have a beautiful day and remember today, is December 1st.

Well, I think that tomorrow you should get to sit around and do NOTHING since you have already lived Dec. 2.
I hope your daughter has a great birthday and your son lives through the week! ;D
Stopping by from SITS
You know, I always look at the teacher deadlines as guidelines, really. We have weekly reading papers that are suppose to be used to log the kids reading times. Now, I understand the importance of reading, but I don’t get why I have to time my kids. My kids love to read and read all throughout the day. My 1st grader is reading chapter books in about an hour to two hours. She reads these at night. Do I really need to take the time to write that down and turn in a signed piece of paper? No. I know she’s reading. The teacher says she knows she’s reading. That’s good enough for me. And what is wrong with email?! Can’t teachers get into the habit of sending out the important stuff via email. I know it’s supposed to teach them responsibility, but what are they learning when you cram the project in at the last minute…and you are doing most of the work. Kids will be kids. They will forget. We will forget (I’ve done it too many times already this year). I think if there is an important deadline, the teachers should post it or email it. Kudos for getting it done on time!! Ours would have been late for sure.
