Boy do I ever.
Christiano has been pulling at his ears for a bit. Thursday afternoon he started running a fever and he wouldn’t let me put him down all day. Jordan had goalkeeper practice, so I thought I’d let him go to both sessions and that would give me 2 hours to take Christiano to the walk in clinic. I get all the kids loaded up and off to practice we go. Get all the way out to practice, Jordan’s walking around looking for the goalkeeper coach and we can’t find him. Talk to the head of the coaches, turned out practice was canceled and no email was sent out to let us know. So, I was ticked. I could have just taken Christian to the Dr.
Off to the dr we go. Walk in and stop. Look around. The waiting room is full of people wearing swine flu masks. Full. There were only 2 people not wearing them besides my own family. I was a little nervous because some were little kids and knowing my own little kids, I knew they weren’t going to keep the masks on their faces the whole time. Go to check in. Two hour and 15 minute wait. Ask about the other clinics. All over 2 hour waits. Decide that this sucks and make an appointment for Christian to be seen the next day. Thursday night was very long. Christiano wouldn’t sleep. I had to keep dosing him with Tylenol. His temp got up to 102.
Call the Dr in the morning and ask if there’s been a cancellation because Christiano is miserable and I don’t want to make him wait until 3. They can get us in at 10:10. Great! Off we go. Walk in, surprise the waiting room is full of people with masks on again. Check in. Notice children pulling their masks off TO COUGH, then putting them back on. Well, that should stop the spread of germs. Parents are too sick themselves to notice. The lady next to me actually took her mask off when her phone rang so she could talk. I slid to the floor with Christiano and hoped germs rise, you know, like heat?
Get called back. On a side note, my 7 month old little toad now weighs 22 lbs. Which would explain why my arm felt like it was going to fall off after carrying him around non-stop for 2 days. Wait over an hour for our doctor. He comes in, checks Christiano’s ears. They look great! Could be the teething or could be he thinks his ears are toys. Whatever. Watch him for 5-6 days, unless I can’t get the fever down with tylenol. He should be fine.
Leave, come home. Jordan comes home from school hacking his lungs out. His throat hurts. His teacher thinks he has strep throat. Ok, if you honestly thought my child had strep throat, would you not call me and have me pick him up so that I can take him to the DR? Gave him robutussin DM and some ibuprofin. Thanking God at this point that Pato switched Friday for Saturday because I don’t want to take sick kids to Kat’s soccer game.
Jordan gets up this morning, he sounds horrible. I tried to look down his throat, but he won’t put his tongue down so I can see if there are pus pockets. Gagged when I tried to hold it down. We’re now waiting for Pato to bring Kat home so that I can take Jordan to the DR and I’m debating taking Christiano back in. He is crying and scraping at his ears. I put some of Alyce’s numbing drops in his ears with a cotton ball and amazing enough, 5 minutes later he was asleep. But, it couldn’t be his ears. His temp his 103 last night. So frustrated and I’m going to need to buy an Outer Banks vacation rentals by the time this is done. Ok, really, any vacation would be nice. My shoulders and arms burn from holding a heavy baby for 3 days straight, my head hurts, and I’m so tired. And so is the life of a mama. I’m just crossing my fingers that Alyce and Kat don’t get sick.
Jordan is still complaining because he can’t go to his dad’s. He thinks I’m punishing him for something. Sorry honey, I can’t withhold your dad as punishment for anything. And you’ve been really good this morning, up until you found out you couldn’t go to your dad’s. *sigh*
On the plus side, Pato called and told me that Katiana made the first goal of the game today and that was her second goal of the season.
Hope you all stay healthy!

My sympathy for your sick kids. Not knowing whats wrong with your kids when they don’t feel good sucks. One of mine used to get ear aches all the time some times it would be just fluid in his ear and unless seen in just the right way would go undetected. Have your doctor check his ears again. Hope they feel better soon.
