How was your 4th?

Posted by Heather Manning On July - 7 - 2009

Ours was pretty good.  I made up with my family member in time to join the festivities.  It felt good to be back with them all.  Mind you, this only lasted a week, but my family is really close and that is like 7 years in dog time.  LOL

We started out on the 4th at the parade.  That was fun, except for the part where this truck drove by with a sign on it that said city employees are getting raises and free golf while the citizens are fighting the recession, ya di ya di da.  Now, I know that a lot of people are hurting from the recession.  But, this area of the state is known for their money.  Houses are ridiculously priced, we actually want one in that area because my kids are in that school district, but it’ll be awhile because of the cost of the houses.  There is lots of money floating out there.  Why does this have me so steamed?  My brother is a city employee and may I say he is not exactly living high on the hog.  He’s not living in a million dollar house in Napa Valley.  They make ends meet and it’s tight at times.  The guy who was driving around with the sign?  One of the more wealthy men in that area.  It really made me sick.  You should have seen my brother’s face as he was reading it.  Broke my heart.

After that we headed to Perkins.  Everyone was grilling out at my grandma’s, but since it was 3 and Pato and I hadn’t eaten yet all day we decided not to fight for the grill and to eat before we headed out there.  Have you had Perkins’ steakhouse scrambler?  So yummy!

Off to grandma’s for a bit.  She hadn’t seen Christiano yet, which I feel absolutely horrible about.  It’s quite a drive to grandma’s and with him hating his car seat, I was scared to risk it.  It was nice to see everyone again.  Quite a few of my cousins were there.  My grandma’s brother came and he showed me his truck.  It had paintings on it that my grandpa had done of the Bridges of Madison county.  I knew my grandpa was a sign painter by profession.  Everything he did was hand done.  No stencils for him.  I didn’t know what a talented artist he was on top of that.  Had a few tears going when I was looking at the paintings.  I asked my dad if fmy grandma had any of grandpa’s paintings that I could make a copy of to hang on my wall.  He’s going to ask her.  I definitely didn’t get that talent.  I can’t draw a recognizable stick figure.  My brother Josh can draw really well, so at least it rubbed off on one of us.

After that it was back home to get ready for the fireworks.  We met up with my brother Josh, Shelley, their kids, my brother Steve’s girlfriend (Steve was passed out from the festivities *sigh*) and Steve’s kids.  Christiano LOVED watching the fireworks.  I was surprised.  He sat there with his eyes glued on the sky the whole time.

The next day we went out to mom and dad’s to set off some of our own fireworks.  There Christiano reacted like I had expected him too the night before.  Scared the diaper off of him.  I think it was because they were a lot closer this time so the pop was louder.  Either that or because he wouldn’t take a nap and was cranky.

Speaking of the fireworks, Jordan has a couple of videos up on his new blog that him and his cousin took of them at mom’s.  He’s really proud of them.  Check them out if you have time and leave him some encouragement.  I finally did what I had told him I would do when we gave him the camera.  I made him a blog to put his videos on so he could share them with family and friends.  I swear that child is heading in the direction of software development with how much he likes to tinker on his computer, or maybe, just maybe he’ll keep up the recording of videos and be a director.  Take care of his mama in her old age.  LOL  He took his camera with him to his dad’s so I’m sure there’ll be a whole new batch of videos up tomorrow night when he gets back.  He’s having a blast!

Yep, I have tons of pictures from this weekend, but my computer is still being fixed.  I guess the holiday weekend is time off?  I don’t know why they think celebrating Independence day is more important than fixing my computer, but it was.  LOL  Here’s hoping it’s soon!  I’m going through scrapping withdrawal.

Have a great day!

girl, I can only imagine the withdrawals you’re going through. Justin still hates fireworks, the noise of em. But Shane did too for a long time. Come to think of it, Sean did too. Just in the last year or so he’s gotten braver. Call me when you get a sec, k? I have news.

  7. You had a great 4th!

I love to stay home on the 4th and have a cookout and then go see our local fireworks, but this year, we had to go to PA for a family reunion. *sigh* – I suppose it was OK. But we missed out on huge fireworks and while that isn’t a big thing to most people, it is to me! I love fireworks and was pretty disappointed that I didn’t get to see a great show.

our weather didn’t fully cooperate, we had fireworks, but they were shortened and lower because of wind, lightening, and a few sprinkles… in Phoenix!
