Where There’s a Helpful Smile in Every Aisle

Posted by Heather Manning On December - 9 - 2008

Do you have a Hy-Vee where you are?  I know it’s not just an Iowa store.  Let me tell you about a wonderful employee there tonight.

If you follow my blog you know I go grocery shopping once a month.  I buy everything we need for the month, then Pato picks up milk, eggs, juice, bread, etc through the month.

I went grocery shopping tonight without any children.  It started out as a wonderful trip.  I had my Starbucks pumpkin spice latte.  My cart was completely full to the top.

I was getting some of those liter size water coolers from Hy-Vee, bent over to put them under the cart because there was no more room in the cart.  Stood back up and thought I was going to die.  Seriously.  That round ligament that holds up the baby?  I pulled it bad.  It was all I could do to get up to the check out without breaking down bawling.  (Let us remember, my OB has declared that this baby is large.)

I was emptying my overflowing cart, breathing breathing breathing, trying not to cry and dreading the fact that I was going to have to bend over and get those bottles back out.

One of the employees came up to me, and said you go relax, I’ll take care of this for you.  He proceeded to empty my whole cart for me.  Now to him it was probably a small thing.  To me, it was huge and meant so much to me with how much pain I was in.  I literally started to cry when I found a manager to tell him how wonderful this guy Jamie was.

It’s funny how something that seems so small to the person who is doing it is so huge to the person who is receiving the helpful hand.

I think that I will survive, though I’m still in extreme pain.  I called my OB and she said to take 2 tylenol, stay off of my feet, and if it doesn’t start getting better in a few hours or I start having more than 6 braxton hicks in an hour to call her back.  It hasn’t really eased off yet (even turning corners driving home sent me into spasms of pain.) but it’s not getting worse, so that’s good.  And my braxton hicks are as bad as they are every night.  Not getting better, not getting worse.

I just had to share that this guy made my night.

28 Week OB Appointment

Posted by Heather Manning On December - 5 - 2008

I had my 28 week OB appointment on Monday.  Good news, I only gained 1 pound last month.  Which puts me at 8 1/2 pounds gained.  YAY!

And, my blood pressure was down and my protein didn’t jump again, so no bed rest for me.  YAY.  I tell you, every week I make past 20 weeks just makes me happy.  I’ve now made it 8 weeks farther off of bed rest than I did with Alyce.

On the weight gain, I’m all baby.  And it’s a big baby.  My OB said that he’s measuring big and that closer to my due date we’ll do an U/S to see that all is able to come out like it should come out.  Ok, that’s reassuring.

I said, 2 years ago tomorrow you delivered Alyce 3 weeks early and she was 8 1/2 pounds.  She looked at my chart and said, let’s hope you go early with this one too.  AGH!

I tell you.  My stomach is HUGE.  Even my daughter’s pediatrician remarked on how big I am for how far along I am the other day.  Yes, I know I need to take a belly shot, but blech, I’m huge.

There’s no way my due date is off.  My first two U/S’s showed my due date was exactly right and Pato was in Mexico.  I pretty much got pregnant the day he got back.

I’m scared to have him too early.  They say 37 weeks is "pretty much" term, but Alyce was born at 37 weeks and had some issues that put her in the special care unit.  The nurses kept saying, "If she’s going to act like a preemie, we have to treat her like a preemie."  I think he needs to stay in and cook at least until 38 weeks.

I now start going every 2 weeks to monitor the protein/blood pressure and his size.  My next appointment is on my birthday.  (Dec 15)

Alyce had her 2 year check on the 3rd.  She’s doing good too.  Finally talking.  She’s 26 pounds, and I don’t remember how tall.  The card they wrote it on is in my car still.  She comes up to Kat’s shoulder’s though and Kat’s not short.

He said to work with her on her S’s.  She’s got a little lisp.  All her S’s come out TH.  Sissy is Thithy.  Si is Thi.  Etc.  He said she’s still young and it’ll probably work itself out on it’s own, but to work with her so it doesn’t become habit.

She’s so funny.  When she gets mad at Jordan, she sends him outside.  He does something, she’ll yell OUT-THIDE!  Like I’m going to send him outside when he’s in trouble.  ROFL  Excuse me missy, you’re not the mama here.

Last night she called Kat "Kata" for the first time.  That’s what Pato  and I call her a lot.  It was so cute and made Jordan, Kat, and I stop and say, awwwwww!  Did you hear that?  Alyce was looking at us like, what?  What did I do?  LOL

I have to get this song out of my head.  I saw the words Outer Banks and now I’m stuck with down by the bay, down by the bay, cept I don’t know all of the words, so it’s down by the bay, down by the bay, where the watermelons grow, where the watermelons grow, du du du du.  Du du du du, du du du du.

LOL

Have a great day and I’ll leave you with, Why don’t seagulls fly over the bay?  If they did they’d be bay-gulls.  HAHAHA!

Alyce’s Birthday

Posted by Heather Manning On December - 3 - 2008

My baby is two.  How about that?  I sniffed a little as I realized (again) how big she is getting.  It was a busy day.

First, we made the cake.  LOL

Then we cleaned up a little because grandma and grandpa were coming over after Jordan’s concert.  (who schedules concerts on my kids’ birthdays???  Wrong wrong wrong.)  I was panicking, trying to get supper made, cake frosted, kids dressed all in time for the concert.   My mom ended up taking Jordan up to his concert by 6 and the rest of us got there by 6:15 or so after being stuck in a traffic jam caused by a stalled car.

Couple of shots of Jordan’s concert.  He’s in the plaid shirt in the middle.  And if you ever have really cruddy shots, like these were, might I mention, I ran my Fix It script for Paint Shop Pro on these.  Thank goodness.  They were dark and grainy and gross from being so far back.

He’s so serious.  :o )

Kat cheering on her brother.

Can you believe she waited until 8 PM to open her presents?  I know!  That’s a lot of patience.  LOL

Exactly what are tadoodles mom?  LOL

hmmm, tadoodles, snugglekins, tadoodles, snugglekins, whatever shall daddy open first?  He opened a baby and the buggy first.  LOL

Oooh, another choice.  That doll is so darn cute!

Jordan and her playing with the Snugglekins.

My cake, it’s all mine, Jordan, Kat, you can’t have none.  LOL

May I say in my defense, I am neither a chef nor an artist (when I’m off the computer).  LOL  We have been going with homemade cakes for some reason.  I think they taste better, though not as pretty.  LOL

Ignore the dishes in the background, I told you I left in a rush before the concert.  LOL  But, the cake was still yummy!

So, that was her day.  I think she had fun.  That first present she was opening had another baby in it.  At 4 this morning she got up all upset (in our bed).  She had gone to bed with the baby, but the baby mysteriously moved (daddy) off the bed in the middle of the night.  She was crying so hard for her baby.  I had to kick Pato.  Find her stinking baby already.  LOL

I’m thinking after Christmas with all these toys, we’re going to have to up our home insurance.  Just kidding!  I’ve done really good this year.  I usually go way overboard for birthdays and Christmas, and I am forcing myself to stay SEMI within a budget.

Alright, I still have Thanksgiving pictures to edit, plus I had my OB appointment yesterday.  I’ll update all of that tomorrow.  Have a great day!
