I didn’t post Happy 4th of July!

Posted by Heather Manning On July - 5 - 2008

So, I guess I’ll say it now!  Happy 4th of July – belated?  We had a fun day.  First we went to watch the parade.  The kids had a blast.  Alyce was really getting into grabbing the candy, but unfortunately her brother and sister are much faster than she is.  Fortunately, she has a mother who makes her brother and sister share.  ROFL  So, every few pieces of candy they’d grab they’d say, here Alyce.  She’d go get it, walk over to me, look in her bag, and drop her treasure in it.  Unless it was a sucker.  Then she would look at it lovingly, look at me, wait for the “drop it in the bag Alyce.”  Then grudgingly hand over her sucker.  Mind you, she had a sucker in her mouth the whole time, so I don’t think she needed to unwrap anymore.  She just was really cute.  All 3 kids came away with a bagful each.  We got there in time to stand at the beginning of the parade.  So, they made out like bandits.  Katiana had a 4th of July shirt thrown at her.  Jordan got a hacky sack.  Alyce got a frisbee.   And they each got glow in the dark bugs.  How exciting I’m sure.  That’s just what we were missing in our house.  Glow in the dark bugs.

Then we came home and got everything ready to go out to mom and dad’s.  I had made a jello cake with cool whip frosting and strawberries and blueberries.  I also attempted to make a jello flag.  But the flag stuck in the mold.  When I flipped it over, part of it fell out.  LOL  So, I got out a big bowl, threw the jello in that.  Added the cool whip, blueberries, and strawberries.  Mixed it up and we had jello mush.  Which was a big hit with the pregnant women (myself and my sister) at my mom and dad’s.

We took our grill out – my dad’s seems to be on it’s last legs.  Pato made drumsticks, hamburgers, and bratwursts for everyone – who claimed they weren’t hungy until the smell of grilled food starts wafting across the yard to us sitting at the campfire.  LOL

Then we got out our box of fireworks leftover from last year, which consisted of roman candles and bottle rockets and shot those off.  With the price of gas this year, no one braved the trip to Missouri to get more.  So, it was those and sparklers.  We were able to see the fireworks shows from the 3 towns around us off and on.  Some wouldn’t get high enough to see them over the trees, but some did.  It was fun none the less!

We both drove our cars out to my parents so I could get the grill in my van.  (You have to push the backseat down to have room for the grill, and if Pato was in the car, there would be no place for Jordan to fit.)  On the way home, Pato stops on the side of the road and calls me.  He said, are my brake lights working.  I said, put your foot on the break.  He said, it is.  I said, um, no, their not working.  So, his car with the new motor, new clutch, and new speedometer that just got back from the mechanic was missing the brake lights.   *sigh*  Turned out the fuse blew.  He fixed it when he got home.  But, I followed him all the way here so that no one else would run into the back of him when he went to stop.

Got home, and I swear, I fell asleep before Alyce and Jordan.  Katiana fell asleep on the way home.  I laid there holding Alyce, and I’m not quite sure when she went to sleep, I was out.  Long day in the sun.

And my cold that I got from my girls – that was making my face feel like it was going to explode – has moved to my ear this morning.  I can’t hear out of it – and it hurts a tad.  I keep leaning my head that way thinking it’ll clear out if I keep it tilted long enough.  ROFL  Probably not.  I took some tylenol cold, but I can’t take anything stronger.  If that stuff wouldn’t ease the pressure in my face, I doubt it’s going to unplug my ear.  Oh well.

My mom has been looking for some of those pay you to do market research surveys.  And she is frustrated in her search.  Do you guys know of any legitimate companies?  If you do, go over to her blog, and let her know!  She’ll love you for it!

Have a great day!

Awww hunny, I hope you feel better soon!!!! I KNOW you took your camera to the parade…right? Justin & I stayed home last night & watched the fireworks done at the river on TV. He’s at the age where he’s kinda freaked by the noise. But girl, I thought of you. There was a woman from Des Moine.
Do me a HUGE HUGE favor. Call me when you get a sec, K? I’ve got news!!!
