The rest of the pictures of our adventure yesterday

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 13 - 2008

You can see the pictures of Des Moines being flooded in yesterday’s post.

Ok, usually I edit and crop the pictures than upload to online and such before I post them, but I’m feeling lazy today.  LOL  So you get them au natural.

We went downstairs at this little recreation area with an office at Saylorville yesterday.  The kids got a kick out of some of the things there.  Not quite the zoo, but they were happy.

Meet Mr Short-Nosed Gar – I guess one of the many fish you’ll find at Saylorville?

floods 098

I don’t remember what they were.

floods 099

Some kind of bass.   Yes, he was posing.

Alyce and a fox

Katiana and Alyce and a badger – he looks like a mean little critter

Petting the badger

I couldn’t get a picture of Jordan, he kept moving – here, there, everywhere, so much to see and do.  LOL

So, all in all it was a good day.  The kids and I got out of the house, out in nature, and when I wasn’t fretting about touching 3 leaved red stemmed pretty plants – AKA Get away from the poison ivy please, I was having such a fun time.

I’m not sure when they are expecting the rivers around here to crest, but keep Iowans in your prayers right now.  Parts of the state have been hit hard and destroyed.

and on a lighter note –

I have released my Doodly Do Birds.  My doodly do line has been one of my best received lines and I thought, why not birds?  So here they are!

The second preview shows how the PNGs would appear at 50% on a 12 X 12.  Including in this set is PNG, ABR, and JBR files.  Meaning, EVERYONE can use them!

I also opened the grab bag yesterday and everything can be seen on the News blog.

The Floods of 2008

Posted by Heather Manning On June - 13 - 2008

We went out driving around today to look at the flooding that is occurring here in Iowa right now.  Well, at least in the Des Moines area.

floods 006

Alyce all ready to go, notice that binky in her mouth?  She found one after 18 months of never using one and decided she now must have one.

floods 007

I don’t know, I just think she’s cute.  LOL

floods 009

Ok, actually, first we stopped for tacos.  LOL  Alyce was sleeping.

floods 010

The other 2 waiting for tacos

floods 011

I’m sure somebody is doing something here that garnered this look. LOL

Ok, now we’re off to see some flooding.

floods 013

Ok we were going anywhere between 35 – 65 when I snapped these pictures (On roads or the interstate).  So some might not be great.  This is a bridge on the East Side (mom – it’s the one going to Abby’s house)

floods 015

Same bridge

floods 021

Still on the East Side – we were heading towards Euclid – for those of you familiar with this area.

floods 024

Another bridge – I think we were still heading towards Euclid, but not sure exactly

floods 030

flooded street on the East Side

floods 034

I think we’re on the interstate here between 2nd Ave and Merle Hay Exit, going towards Merle Hay

floods 038

Same area – not bad for going 65 MPH  LOL

floods 039

Same area

floods 040

I don’t think the river is supposed to be here

floods 041

different angle of that house – again, I think this is right between 2nd and Merle Hay

floods 042

that’s a tree – opposite side of the interstate from the house

floods 051

right before the Merle Hay Exit

floods 052

The sign saying you can get McDonald’s and Perkins off the Merle Hay Exit.  It was in a lot of water.

The bridge off the merle hay exit

floods 066

Going over the mile long bridge at Saylorville

floods 069

Right out my window on the mile long bridge.  Usually you have to lean out and look down to see the water – not today

floods 077

We got out at one of the observation points at Saylorville Lake

floods 088

Another shot from the look out point.  It’s crazy how beautiful yet how dangerous it is.

floods 085

Pato and Alyce at the observation point – yeah mom, it scared me too.

floods 084

Jordan

floods 087

Does Katiana look nervous to you?

Then we went inside.  I’ll show you those pictures tomorrow.  This has so many already.  So that is a welcome to Des Moines, IA during the floods of ’08.  Next time I bring another card or flash memory or something.  I took almost 200 pictures AND my battery was close to dead.
