Woohoo, my Skype phone is here

Posted by Heather Manning On May - 6 - 2008

I tried to use Skype to go to call Pato in Mexico, using my cell phone and the number they gave me, but it would never connect.  So, I ordered this –

It’s the Philips Travel phone.  Cheap.  LOL  I found it on New Egg for $20.  But then today, I find it on Amazon for $13.  Downloaded the driver for Vista off of Philips’ website, plugged it in to my computer, found Pato’s number in Mexico and I was on the phone with him in a minute.  Yippie!  No more calls to Mexico on my cell phone.  I hate that on my bill.  It’s high enough as it is and the minutes to Mexico push it up quickly.  Especially when I have a 4 year old here every day who says, mom, can I call daddy – at least 4 times.  She now knows how to call him on my cell phone and I’ve caught her doing it herself.  I’ll have to teach her how to call daddy on Skype so she doesn’t pick up my cell anymore.  LOL

Yesterday I got a free gas grill on ReUseIt – like Freecyle, but not.  Our area switched over to ReUseIt because the mods felt that Freecycle was getting to corporation like and they like the choices they are able to keep making with ReUseIt.  Anyways, someone was offering up a gas grill and we had never gotten one.  We want one, but we are waiting until we buy a house to get a nice new one.  I asked for it, and she chose me.  (I was shocked because our group has over 1000 members, it’s getting hard to be chosen for anything.  LOL)  We went and got it and I was shocked with how good of condition it was in.  Brand new rack, has a cover.  YAY!

So, we got home with it, then I forgot that I had gotten it.  It was in the back of my van.  I think I lose a few memory cells with each child I have had.   Katiana reminded me last night.  (I think she just wanted to go out and play.)  I went out and unloaded it from the van.  Then looked at the porch.  Ugh.  I cleaned everything, reorganized all the kids toys, moved Jordan’s bike (he’s got a chopper, it takes up a lot of room) to a better location.  And made a nice little spot for it away from the wood of the deck.  Through all the garbage away that people have been throwing down off the top floors that lands in the rocks off of my porch, but still, my porch.  All the kids toys had hidden the garbage.  I was ticked when I moved all the toys and saw it.  We keep a garbage can on my porch just because of it.  And it was filled from the stuff that had fallen in my view.  Emptied that, picked up some more beer cans, bubble containers, cigarette butts.  People are so rude.  Now my porch is nice and clean and if the kids put their toys back where I have them, I’ll be able to see anything falling from the top and toss it before it gets rained on, soggy, and gross.  Blech.  I moved our chairs around because the barn swallows built a new nest in my rafters right over where one of my chairs was sitting.  I never get there before one of the birds lay eggs.  I don’t want to knock the nests down while there are little birdie eggs in them.  So, I have to wait until they hatch and the little poopers fly away to get rid of the nests.  They poop on EVERYTHING!  Last year in the middle of the night they completely covered Jordan’s bike seat in poop.  And so the reason why I rearranged my chairs.  It’s funny, cuz the robins will build nests in the posts of the deck, like the support for the wood that goes around my porch.  And they don’t poop all over everything.  I don’t mind the robins.  But I wish the swallows would find another place to lay their eggs.  They are messy little things.

My neighbor told me she knocks hers down whether there are eggs in it or not.  I just can’t bring myself to do that.

Did anyone watch Craig Ferguson last night?  I watch House, but I’ve never seen Hugh Laurie outside of house, right?  Is he losing his hair or was that just the way the light was reflecting.  He’s now going to google his name, find my blog and be devastated that I think he’s going bald on top and in the back badly.  I never noticed that before.  Every time they got a shot of his head it looked like it was almost gone in those areas.  You know what else threw me?  I know he’s got an English accent, so, I must have seen him on something else before.  But how different his voice and speech are on House versus how he speaks in real life.  I was ROLLING listening to him and Craig banter back and forth.  Both 2 very funny men with those delicious accents.

Still time to grab my Bundle O’ Scraps!  You don’t want to miss it!  Scroll down to yesterday’s post to see what all was in the bag.

I forgot to email you Kristine, but I had to tell you, that is Pato’s smile.  ROFL  He says Mexican men don’t smile in pictures.  He says it looks stupid.  Macho men for you.  He’s right though.  I’ve never seen a picture of a man from Mexico where he is smiling big for the camera.  I can’t get him to smile to save my life for a picture.  Kinda stinks for family pictures when the rest of us look like we are happy to be there and Pato thinks what he puts on is a smile.  OH!  I told him about the layout ya’all.  ROFL  He’s going to go look at it.  Can’t wait to hear what he says.

Have a great day!

I think I’ll play the blog train and take the girls for a walk.

How was your (I)NSD weekend?

Posted by Heather Manning On May - 5 - 2008

I spent way too much. Way too much. I couldn’t help myself, I was in overload, pretties pretties everywhere! Let’s see, what stores did I hit?

Divine Digital
Ashalee and Sweet
Scrapbook Elements
Sophia Sarducci
The Digi Chick
Scarlet Heels
Tracy Ann
Tracey Rennemo

Gina Miller
Kim Hill
Scrap Scandi Style
It should be said I made 5 trips to the Digi Chick and 2 to Scarlet Heels Media. Once for her grab bag, again for her alphas.

But I had fun! What was your favorite thing you found?? Out of all the kits, all the goodies, I love the frippery ducks from Tracy Ann – want to see why?

Is that not the funniest? LOL The rest of the credits can be found here. I was literally cracking up when I made this. Trying not to wake up the kids, but it was so hard. ROFL Do you want the store behind Pato’s nickname? When he was younger, his littlest sister could not say his name – Ehyzar – and he used to walk like a duck to entertain her. So, she called him Pato and it stuck. Everyone calls him Pato now, except for his mom and sisters who constantly ask me, why do you call him Pato? Well, you know the story behind it. LOL He was introduced to me as Pato, I have never heard anyone call him anything else. Ask Katiana what her daddy’s name is and she’ll tell you Pato. ROFL It had to be documented, you know for our children. ROFL I emailed it to him, we’ll know soon if he checks his email.

After a mad time of shopping, I took the kids for a walk yesterday. We walked down to the office to drop off the rent check. What an experience that was. I had Jordan on his bike, Katiana on her tricycle, and Alyce in her little push car (the ones with the handle you push). We get up to the stop light down the street and there was some serious traffic. I had my cell phone in my hand that I was pushing Alyce with me (pockets? Who plans ahead for something like that?), I reach down and grab Kat’s trike, and tell Jordan, push the button, watch for the hand to turn green. It turns green, we take off, I’m pulling Kat who has both feet sticking straight out to the sides yelling, MOM STOP! Alyce was sitting in her car with her feet propped up on her steering wheel. We were quite the site. I looked over at a car on our way across, I swear, someone was pointing at us to their passenger and laughing. You try to get a 4 year old on a tricycle across the street before the light turns red. Those lights change quick. LOL We had fun though. I’m so glad it’s finally nice outside!

Oh, Saturday – man it’s a good thing my kids have good health insurance (that we pay for out of our own pocket, thank you, that was my word to blog today which is why I pointed it out – nice way to start rumors though) that includes optical. Katiana snapped Jordan’s glasses in half. Now he needs his third replacement pair this year. This is the first time they’ve been damaged at home. The last times it’s been at school I was so not happy. But luckily, I just had to call the eye doctor and say, um, need another replacement pair. Right in half at the nose. His new ones will be ready this week. He acted like he was oh so upset that she broke his glasses, and NOW I can’t wear them Katiana!!!! I was like, dude, like you wear them without fighting me anyway. Ugh.

19 days of school left counting the day they get off for memorial day. Jordan’s school gets out June 2. Woohoo! I don’t know why I say woohoo. It’s not like I ever sleep in. And they’ll spend the summer fighting, like they do all the time. But, he really does help with the girls. I’m looking forward to a little more time with him.

If you didn’t grab it this weekend, my Bundle O’ Scraps is still up and running!

You can grab it here! And make sure you check out the extra previews in the store, you can see EVERYTHING that is in it.

And how about an after (i)NSD freebie for those paypal accounts that have been thoroughly abused?

I’m really into overlays lately, if you can’t tell. LOL I guess it makes sense since I’m an overlay freak in general.

Silk Wrinkles Overlay – for personal use only

And today is the last day to grab Quiet Day for 50 cents to use in my Creative Team’s Challenge! Not only do you get this awesome kit for super cheap, you will get a full brag book when you’re done with the challenge!

Have a wonderful day!

Anyone else getting excited for NSD?

Posted by Heather Manning On May - 1 - 2008

I’m running around feeling like I’m forgetting something.  And I think I figured out what it was.  LOL  Digital Candy is having it’s grand reopening today and I don’t have my whole store loaded.  AGH!  I think I’ll be spending a good portion of my day doing that.  Gosh, why does real life have to get in the way of scrapping?  ROFL  I mean, last night it was soccer, tonight it is soccer, and do you know what my cousins had the nerve to schedule for Saturday?  My aunt and uncle’s 50th wedding anniversary surprise party.  I mean, come on, it’s NSD!  I can’t take time away to party!!!  Ok, maybe a little.  ROFL  Don’t you tell them that I told you about their surprise party, it’s a secret!   Shhhhhhh!

Last night soccer practice was mighty enjoyable.  Want to know why?  Both of the girls fell asleep in the car.  LOL  I sat there and read Craig Ferguson’s book, Between the Bridge and the River.  In the beginning I thought I was going to have trouble reading it, I’m not exactly one who gets put in total shock by bad language, but in the first parts of the book, the language was so crude, I had trouble getting past it, I even called my mom to ask her what the point was of using language that raunchy.  Is it for shock value because in my opinion, it didn’t add anything.  I think you can set the mood without using the C word, I really do.  But, one of the guys in the book claimed that before we American’s got a hold of the C word, it wasn’t a vulgar word in Scottland for a woman’s private parts.  Once I got past the first couple of chapters the language calmed down to almost non-existent and I’m now actually amazed at how his mind works.  This book keeps going off on different tangents in different time periods with people who don’t cross paths, but then do cross paths, and it’s one of those books that keep you saying, what in the world?  How the heck did he connect those so seamlessly?  I’ve got a couple more chapters to go now.  So, Jordan wasn’t happy with me for getting so engrossed in the book instead of watching practice, but I had to park all the way down, couldn’t even see him playing between all of the soccer practices and baseball games.  It really wasn’t my fault there was only one parking spot when we got there and we got there early.

Tonight he has a make up soccer game, one of 3 that were rescheduled due to weather.  I thought it was going to be canceled due to weather again because they have been talking major thunderstorms for today, but I just checked our news site and it said that the rain is now going to hold off until overnight.  So, that will get one of those make up games out of the way.  I swear they started the season earlier this year than normal.  Normally we play up to June and Jordan’s last regularly scheduled game is May 17 this season.  I also think this is why we had to have games rescheduled due to snow.  LOL

Saturday he has a game at 1.  I just looked and the surprise party is at 2.  I’m going to be running running.  At least his game is at home and not like 30 miles west of me again, it won’t be quite as long of a drive to the party.

Ok, so much is going on right now!  Check out my CT Blog!  They have talked me into putting Quiet Day on sale for 50 cents starting tomorrow and have a great brag book exchange going on for you!

Also, tomorrow I will be releasing my Bundle O’ Scraps!  And if you’d like to win it before you can buy it check out this thread at DST to find out how you can win it for you AND for someone else!  I will be drawing tonight!

And we’ll have the big release of Dawn’s and my new collab!

This kit, honestly is one of the most amazing things I have ever worked on.  It literally took my breath away when I saw the final result with all of our stuff together.  You combine Dawn’s GORGEOUS doodles (or artwork as I call them) with my papers and realistic elements and you get a kit that you can go to over and over again!  Be on the look out for it tomorrow!

Go play with Gabs and you might get the kit for free!  Check out this thread at DST.  You have to work for it, but it would totally be worth it if you win!

And my chat at DST on Saturday at 9:00 p.m. EST.  I would LOVE to have you all there with me!  And to say thank you for coming, you’ll get this –

Plus we’ll be giving out coupons to the store!  Woohoo!  The chats are always so chaotic and so much fun.  LOL

Well, I best be getting to work!  Have a happy May Day!
