I did good at the grocery store!

Posted by Heather Manning On May - 13 - 2008

I’m so proud of myself.  Ok, those of you who follow my blog have read about my grocery shopping experiences.  LOL  I go once a month, get all the meat, cheese, canned, boxed food we need for the month.  Then when Pato’s home he stops and gets other stuff as we need it, ie:  milk, juice, eggs, bread, etc.  And usually I spend way over $300 during one of these crazy shopping trips.

I intended to get lots of meat when I went because Pato should *crossing fingers* be home on Wednesday or Thursday and I want to grill.  There were some awesome specials yesterday.  10 Ribeyes for 10 dollars.  The ribeyes that are behind the meat counter that they wrap up for you.  LOL  Grabbed those.  Our store started selling family size chicken packs.  A pack with 3 pieces of chicken was on sale for $2.99 a pound – it was around $4.00.  The family size one was like $2.00 a pound – same meat – I got 5 of the breasts for like $5.50 each.  Bought 2 of those and when I got home separated them into freezer bags, 3 in each bag.  He will be going back to work when he gets home, so I kept it with the 3 in each bag.  Kat and Alyce usually split a chicken breast.  Too much for each girl to eat.  They had those HUGE chicken shish ka bobs, yes, I could make those myself, but these looked so yummy.  They were on sale for $2/$6.00.  I got 4 of those because I doubt Alyce will eat Basil tomato chicken.  LOL  Hamburger was on sale in those 1 lb rolls I always get for $1.88/lb.  I got 10 of those.  I’m telling you, I went nuts in the meat department.  And my bill yesterday was only $246.  So much better than $300 +.  Lots of fruits and veggies.  The only thing that wasn’t on sale was the bags of shredded cheese.  I usually buy like 10 or 15 bags when they are on sale.  But I only got 5 to make do until they go back on sale.  I just couldn’t buy a lot at $2.50 a bag when they will be on sale sometime for 4/$5.00.

And with summer upon us and the fact that I now have the grill.  I didn’t buy nearly as many frozen food items.  Usually I can’t shut my freezer door when I’m done shopping, but last night it was fully, just not have to take EVERYTHING out of the boxes it came in full.  LOL

The kids were good at the store, which was so nice.  The only issues I had was with Alyce taking her arm out of her sweat shirt and pulling it through the collar so my baby looked like she was wearing a Dora toga.  LOL

Then we got home, I put it all away.  Then they started not listening and fighting, so everyone got sent to bed.

I saw this thing online and was wondering if anyone had tried it? Leptovox?  I would have to quit nursing, which I want to do anyway.  We are at 17 months now.  I only went 16 with Kat.  Alyce just doesn’t want to give it up.  I was ready to wean her before she went through that round of sicknesses for awhile and she wouldn’t eat well.  She doesn’t drink milk.  I’ve tried every variation of milk.  Strawberry, chocolate, pediasure.  If she sees me pour the milk, she won’t even take the glass from me.  If I trick her and she doesn’t see me pour it, she’ll take a drink, let it fall out of her mouth, throw the glass, and start in on a full fledged tantrum.  Anyways, when she was sick, I told the doctor that I really had wanted to wean her and he said, if that’s all she’ll take right now, don’t wean her while she’s sick.

I think she’s starting to slow down on her own though.  We only nurse twice a day.  For about 5 minutes a session.  Right before nap, she’ll nurse, get off on her own, lay on my arm and go to sleep.  Same thing before bed.

Hopefully with Pato coming home, having someone else to help with bedtimes will help with ending of the nursing.

I have to say congratulations to my girl Steph!  And a big thank you for wanting to do it.  My head CT Kerry had to step down after being with me for a year because of personal things (Kerry, I’ll miss you and you’re always welcome back!  Thank you for everything!!!!) and I decided the only way to find a new Head Dirty Girl was to ask my own team.  They’ve all been with me for so long.  Most of my team has been with me for close to a year, they know me, they know my products, they know how we run things in the monkey house, and I wanted it to be one of them.  A few of my ladies volunteered and I want to thank each and everyone of you!  Even those who didn’t volunteer.  They are my backbone and they help my business run smoothly, plus and most important we’ve become such wonderful friends.

Anyways, back to congratulation Steph!  She is my new Head whip-cracking Dirty Girl.   ROFL  I think she needs a blinkie with a whip cracking.  Wouldn’t it be awesome if blinkies had sound effects???  ROFL  If you get a chance, go over and tell Steph congrats!  Thanks Steph!!!

For those of you who liked yesterday’s Tumbler Template but don’t have a Starbucks near you to get a tumber, I heard that Target sells them for $9.99 (which is actually $1.00 cheaper than what I paid at Starbucks).  And if that isn’t an option, Jane over at DigiScrap Review found these glasses for you.  They are actually called Scrapbook Tumbers.  AND there are different sizes.   Jane has a template for those glasses also.  She now has the templates for those glasses up on her blog!   Stop and take a peak around her blog while you are there!  It is a highly informative site where she reviews so many sites that are relative to us Digiscrappers.  And on top of that?  She’s so nice!  Go tell her hi!

Wow, I wish I could only spend 300 in groceries in a month, but does beer count as a grocery? It does if you’re Shannon. grrrrr. Keeping my fingers crossed that that man is finally gonna be back where he belongs. Tell him he can’t ever do that again!
Have a great day and thanks for the goodies! Luv ya!!!!

Holy Moley…that is some excellent bit of shopping! Be lucky your kids are little…my 16 yr old eats like 2 men. I don’t even remember what it is like to buy ONE loaf of bread or ONE gallon of milk! LOL

I LOVE grilling season too…get some of that mess out of my kitchen and eat some different things for a change

Glad you found a new monkey wrangler! Everyone needs great people behind them and it sounds like you have quite a few!

I want your grocery store! I spend $200 a week on everything. It’s insane because there’s only 4 of us. I hear you on the weaning too. We’re STILL having to mix a bit of formula with Aaron’s milk. He KNOWS and won’t drink it if it’s straight milk. I’ll be so glad when we’re done with this monkey business.

  5. Eve says:

Sounds like you got some greats deals! I only have a really small freezer that is part of the fridge, so I am limited on what I can buy. I still have my fingers crossed that Pato is home soon!

  6. Juliana says:
