Life Insurance and Such

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 7 - 2008

I just signed each of the kids up for Gerber’s insurance policy.  Do you guys use that at all?  I’ve been debating it for years.  And finally did it.  Now I need to start looking around and get life insurance quotes for Pato and I.  For some reason I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m not immortal and that I really should have something in place to protect my kids’ future if something were to happen to me.  Maybe it’s this thing with so many people passing away around me this last year?  I don’t know.  But I think it’s time.

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 5 - 2008

I got my wings layout done for the #11 challenge.  Woohoo!  I’m thinking this would have been a better one for the altered art.  LOL  But I LOVE how it came out!

Is that not the cutest?  Maybe it’s just the baby that I like?  LOL  Everything is by Jofia except for the fluffy angel wings which were by Joanne Brisebois.  You can see full credits here.

And I finished up #12.  Kat supplied the pictures and the journaling and I did the scrapping.  I thought the pictures stood on their own better than with my messy style I normally scrap with.

I only used a couple of things here.  I used my Old Edges, Blythe Evans’ Midnight Magic Garden (paper), and Micheline Martin’s new Stitchworks.

I need to scrap a picture or 2 of my other kids.  I’ve been doing a lot of Alyce lately.  I really should scrap one of Kat’s funky self hair cut.  LOL

So, today starts a busy weekend.  Soccer at 2:30.  I want to make Kat’s cake today.  It won’t be anything huge cuz I am so much better at buying a cake than I am decorating one.  LOL  Really, it’s true.  I try so hard and I’ve finally decided that I’m good with a jar of frosting and a squirt can to right happy birthday.  LOL

Then I promised the kids we’d go to Chuck E Cheese tonight only because I have that coupon for the free pizza and stuff.  I may see if I can’t print out a coupon for more tokens.  My sister is going to meet us there.

Then tomorrow is the big day.  My little girl turns 4.  Crazy!  She’s grown so much this year.  I was thinking back to how little she was when I brought Alyce home from the hospital.  (Alyce is 16 months old now, so a little of a year ago.)  Even up until the last 6 months, she still seemed like a “toddler” to me.  Then she grew up.  LOL   She is so much taller.  Her face looks a older.  She knows so much more.  Seriously, she comes up to Jordan’s chest now.  She’s going to be tall like daddy, I think.  And Jordan seems destined to be short like mom.

I just can’t believe it’s been 4 years since I had her.  And that we have another little girl since I had Kat.  Time goes by too fast I tell you.  Unless your waiting for your husband to come home from Mexico.  Then it tends to drag on and on.  LOL

Like I said yesterday, Kat does not want to have her “big” party until Papi gets back from Mexico.  So, we’re going to take the cake out to my mom’s and let grandma and grandpa celebrate with us.

Then the 8th is my brother’s birthday.  Not this weekend, but another birthday coming up to celebrate.   We’re getting into the busy time of year for birthdays.  It’s like boom boom boom.  Carter was in March, Kat is April 6, Steve is April 8, Josh is April 23, my mom is May 10, then we’re good until June 20.  Then we’ve got one birthday a month until we get to December where it’s boom boom boom again.

She’s driving me nuts about opening her presents.  They are all wrapped and in the crib where I thought little children would stay out of them.  (Yes, in the crib, why not get some use out of it.  Alyce doesn’t sleep in the dang thing.)  She keeps bringing one out to me saying, one more sleep, then I get to open this one.  Then she’ll get another one out, when I’m 4, I get to open this one!  Katiana, put your presents back.  Don’t touch another one, or you won’t open them in the morning.  LOL

I keep getting ads from a certain company that I ordered my business cards with and the offers keep getting better and better.  I think I want to make some new cards that kind of reflect how I’ve grown as a designer.  I don’t think I’m going to get any more magnets though yet, they tend to become picture holders on my fridge and I don’t give them out.  But, I was thinking that I might get some marketing pens.  Just drop them here and there.  Oops, I forgot my pen, but go visit digiscrapping.net.  LOL  I think that’s going to have to wait until Pato gets home.  I can’t justify the expense yet.  But I want to.  I might play around with the design in the next few days just to have it ready for when I can.

Don’t forget my sale this weekend for Kat’s birthday!

40% off of everything (PERSONAL AND COMMERCIAL) in the store this weekend!  Including the stuff in the dollar bin!  So that’s 60 cents or less per product!  Won’t get that very often!  Check out all the specials!

They’re back!

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 4 - 2008

LOL Whose back? Have you not heard???? I am so stoked. I feel 13 again. I even did a layout on one of them a loooooong time ago for an All About Me Challenge. LOL

Yeah, that’s right New Kids On The Block have reunited! Woohoo! LOL

See a video here if you’re as excited as I am. LOL

They are on the Today show this morning and Meredith just 1/2 an hour. I’m all giddy. I feel 13 again.

I talked to Pato last night and I’ve already made him promise that he’s taking me to a concert this fall if they come anywhere near us (though he wants to know why he needs to go to a New Kids concert. ROFL). New album this spring. I’ve kept up with Joe and Jordan’s new albums, yes, I have all of them. LOL Based on that, I’m going to assume that it is going to be really different than Oh oh oh oh oh. Oh oh oh oh. ROFL

Don’t you love all these housewives going crazy right now? LOL

Speaking of talking to Pato. He’s now saying about 2 weeks. Which is much better than the original 6 weeks he told me the other day. Anyone else getting seriously tired of the times changing? He’s just messing with me, I swear. He was told last night that if it takes longer than 2 weeks I’m personally going over the border and kicking his you know what.

He said that it really bothered him when Katiana told him that she wasn’t going to have her birthday party without papi here. Not going to do it. She’s TOTALLY willing to open up her presents without him though. ROFL She’s not giving that up. LOL

Speaking of Katiana’s birthday, I decided to hold a quick sale for her birthday!

40% off of everything (PERSONAL AND COMMERCIAL) in the store this weekend! Including the stuff in the dollar bin! So that’s 60 cents or less per product! Won’t get that very often! Check out all the specials!

Have a wonderful day! I’ve got to go watch my New Kids. LOL

Kat’s results

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 3 - 2008

I breathed a sigh of relief yesterday when the ER called me to tell me that there wasn’t bacteria growing in her sample.  Does that mean it was a contaminated sample?  If so, how did it get contaminated?  I cleaned her myself with the little toilette they give you.  Of course, I was holding a squirming 15 month old for part of it, til I handed her off to Jordan.  So, that means that all that gloom and doom from that doctor was uncalled for.  There are not tests to be run.  Katiana is fine.  Yep, like I needed to worry about my 3 year old being on dialysis 3 times a week by the time she’s 13 on top of everything else that’s going on right now.  YAY for Kat though!

Jordan had soccer practice last night and it was actually nice enough out that I could get the girls out of the car.  They got to swing for over an hour!  Woohoo them!  They were so happy to be outside playing again.

And can I give you a piece of advice if it’s nice but wet out?  Don’t wear flip flops.  I was wearing my goldish yoga pants and one of those old school baseball type shirts.  You know the white ones with the colored sleeves.  (I was all color coordinated, the sleeves matched my pants.  LOL)  Anyways, so there’s this hill you have to go up to get to the soccer fields.  When we first got there, I had to get out and go sign the good sportsman ship form and tell the coach’s wife that I was going to go grab supper.  Going up the hill was great.  When I went back to the car, I was on my way down the hill, started slipping, caught my balance, but kind of stomped in this more mud than puddle in the squishy grass.  Dude, I had mud all over my feet, up the back of my pants, and covering the back of my shirt.  I looked pretty.  When I got back from grabbing dinner, I got the girls out to swing.  I got a couple of funny looks from other moms and had to keep explaining that flip flops were not the ideal choice of shoes for soccer practice when it’s wet out.

You know, can I tell you that my son losing stuff is getting to the point of ridiculous.  I bought him a brand new pair of Adidas cleats right before this season started.  He wore them a total of 2 times to practices.  Not even games.  Time for the scrimmage last Saturday, he can’t find one cleat.  We both are searching the house.  I’m searching in odd places that my children throw shoes.  While he’s searching in obvious places, where he usually takes his shoes off.  No go.  He’s blaming it on Katiana because he had her carry his cleats in from the last soccer practice.  I’m blaming it on him because he should take responsibility for his important things and not leave that to a 3 year old.  At this point, I’m pretty sure that Kat has dropped it in the parking lot on the way in.  And I’m fuming.  I pulled out his old cleats from last season.  He flipped out, crying.  He hates those shoes, they hurt his feet.  Well, yeah they probably do.  Turns out last season he wore a 13 1/2.  This season he’s wearing a 3.  When I say last season, I don’t mean last year this time, I mean last fall season.  6 months ago or so.  Jordan had a serious growth spurt finally.  (I always giggle because he’s always had small feet – when he was Kat’s age he wore a size 5, which is the size that Alyce wears and is almost growing out of now.  So, do my girls have big feet, or does Jordan have little feet.  LOL)  He whined all the way to the scrimmage.  I asked Kim (the coach’s wife) if Jordan could wear his tennis shoes just for the scrimmage.  She said no problem.  So, I left him there, turned around, went home, grabbed his shoes.  Went back, braved hurricane force winds with the girls to carry them out onto the field for him.  Ok, they weren’t really hurricane force, but Alyce couldn’t catch her breath in it.

Came home, searched for the shoe again after the scrimmage, nothing.  Well, he has to have cleats to play.  And like I said, I was worried Kat dropped it in the parking lot.  So, I get online and order him a new pair of cleats.  Got him a pair of David Beckham Jr adidas this time.  They are really cool.  White and gold.  His other new cleats are blue and gold, they were rather cool too.  I just looked and they are the same shoe, just in different colors, both the David Beckham Jr Absolado cleat.

These are the ones I just ordered him.

These are the ones he just got before that.

So, he’s in the shoe closet searching for his shin guards right.  Because my son can never put his stuff back where it goes, he has to put them wherever.  Even after I say, Jordan, take off your shoes, you shin guards, put them in your soccer bag with your goalie gloves.  Guess what he finds???  His other cleat buried underneath stuff that I swear I looked through when I was searching for his shoe.  I told him when the white ones get here, I’m sending them back.  I put them on my charge card because I don’t have a lot of cash right now with Pato being gone.  Oh but he loooves the white one, they are David Beckham shoes.  Well, lo and behold, so are the blue ones.  So, you can just be a fan in the blue ones as easy as the white ones.  LOL  Jordan wants to be David Beckham when he grows up.  That and a police officer on the canine unit.

I did find him a goalie jersey on clearance for $9.97, which is cheap that I grabbed because last season he was trying to wear Pato’s.  Do you know how big Pato is?  LOL  It hung way over his soccer shorts.  He wants new goalie gloves because his have been rather used, and I said he’s going to have to wait until dad gets back.  I can’t get everything right now, the old ones are going to have to work.  They don’t have holes in them, just some wear and tear, ya know?

I thought I was being smart last night when we got home and I called Jordan’s dad to ask him to get Jordan on Saturday instead of Sunday.  Sunday is Kat’s birthday and with daddy gone, I wanted Jordan to be here with us all day.  I told Jordan his dad was getting him on Saturday and he said I have a game on Saturday.  So, I check the schedule, most of games are at 5:30, his dad drops him off at 4, plenty of time to get to the game.  Not this Saturday.  His game is at 2:30.  His dad picks him up at 10.  He’d have to drop him off at 1:30, Jordan would have to be ready to go, cleats on, everything when he got here.  Not going to work.  I don’t want him to not have his normal amount of time with his dad.  So, I’m going to have to call him back and ask him if he’ll get him the next Sunday instead.

I talked to my mom last night and she said it was ok if I brought the cake I was making for her birthday out to her house so that Kat could be with grandma and grandpa on her birthday too.  I wasn’t going to have her big party until Pato got home.  Now I’m wondering if that isn’t a bad idea.  Seeing as we have no idea when Pato will get home.  Oh well, we’ll open presents here on Sunday, go out to my mom’s and I have a coupon for Chuck E Cheese from when they screwed up at Jordan’s birthday party.  It’s for a large pizza, 4 drinks, and 100 tokens.  I think I’ll take the kids there Saturday night after the game so she can feel like we did something for her birthday like we did for Jordan’s.

Well, that’s about it on my end today.  I was going to do the link tag that was on Amanda’s blog today, but I’ve already made this so long.  I think I’ll do that tomorrow.

Oh!  one more thing!  Remember this layout?  It was featured this month in the Artisan notebook!  How neat is that?  It was featured under black and white and described as a freestyle layout.  I was just so tickled pink!  I also found out that one of my former CT members Amy B had a layout published in Digital Scrapbooking Magazine that had one of my flowers on it.  The little things that make me happy.  ROFL  It was just so neat seeing my name in print.  Well, I haven’t technically “seen” it yet, since God only knows where my issue of DSM is this month, but I heard.  I have a 2 year subscription to DSM, and it just started last November.  So, I’m pretty sure my subscription is still good.

So, how about some new products if you haven’t been here in a few days.  I opened up the commercial grab bag yesterday and this is what was in it -

Magic at the table please?

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 2 - 2008

My sister invited us out to dinner last night to a restaurant here called Felix and Oscars.  Tuesday’s kids eat free with the purchase of an adult meal, so she figured 3 adults = 3 kids eating free = getting Heather out of the house.  LOL

Tuesday nights they also have a magician there who comes around and does magic AT your table.  It was so fun!  I know he didn’t talk to Jordan or Katiana before hand and he used for things like making balls appear and disappear out of their hands, and doing card tricks.  I mean, we were right there and I could not tell how he did these things and my kids were completely and totally in awe.

At one point the magician sits his deck of cards (thankfully wrapped in a rubber band) down by Alyce to do another trick.  Jordan said, you might want to move those, she’ll eat them.  ROFL  The magician said he’d watch her.  Next thing we know Alyce has his cards on her way to her mouth and then she’s looking at me, I look at her, she turns to the magician, hands him his cards and says, Den.  (Meaning here, take this.)  He looks at Jordan and says, you warned me.  Jordan said, yep, I did.  LOL

I ordered a Grinder (sandwich) which looked so good when it got to the table.  Unfortunately,  I am one of those people that eat one thing at a time.  So I ate all my fries, then Pato called.  And by the time I got off the phone with him, I had lost my appetite.   So, I’m eating my grinder for breakfast right now.

He called me back when I got home and the conversation ended with, “You may be the golden boy who can’t do any wrong while you are with your mama and your sisters, but in my eyes, you have royally screwed up.”  Seriously, he has this attitude right now of he can do no wrong.  At this point he is looking at a month and a half for a Visa, period, work or travel.  Unless there is some act of divine intervention, that is where we are at.    And of course, this is not his fault.  No, it’s his fault that he’s been there a month and NOT STARTED THE PAPERWORK AT ALL!  I understand his dad died.  And I feel horrible about it.  But he promised me that first Monday he got there (he got there on a Friday) that he would start his paper work.  He put it off, put it off, put it off, because people told him it would only take a week to get a work visa, and had he started it back when I told him to, back when he promised, we wouldn’t be sitting here right now having this fight.  He would be almost done.  2 weeks to go and he would have his visa.  But this is not his fault.

I see after a month with our family we’re back to immature Pato who does not have to take responsibility for what we do and do not do.  That we don’t have to be held accountable.  He’s so lucky there’s a border separating us and I don’t have my own passport.

And you know, a lot of this is me.  I don’t understand anything.  I’m not Mexican.  I’m not in his situation.  Nope, I’m American, and I’m not sure if it’s different in different cultures, I’m pretty sure a parent is a parent no matter how you look at it and that most parents don’t want to leave their children for 2 1/2 months and that most parents in his situation would spend every waking minute trying to return to their kids as quickly as possible.  I don’t think that’s a Mexican VS American thing.  Really I don’t.

Can you tell he ruined the rest of my evening?

So, we got home and I had the kids start cleaning the living room.  I need some DVD/audio racks WITH A LOCK!  The kids get the DVDs put away and Alyce tears them back out.  Just runs over, opens the door and starts pulling them back out.  Or maybe I could put a cabinet lock on the entertainment center?  Something because the other 2 are tired of putting them back and Alyce doesn’t put them back well.  LOL  The living room still isn’t cleaned up the way I want it.  I’ll probably get it finished today instead of waiting for Jordan to help Kat with it (even though that’s one of the only chores he has) because he has soccer practice tonight and I’m sick of looking at it.

See, man it started out as such a promising night.  I’m just not going to answer my phone when I’m out in public anymore.  Actually, I tried that.  I ignored the first call, he called right back.

Ok, enough of that!  The designer bag was unwrapped and everything is now in the store at 25% off for a week!

Pics from the walk

Posted by Heather Manning On April - 1 - 2008

I’ve got tons of pictures from our walk before Kat got sick. But first I thought I’d update you on that. We went to her doctor’s appointment yesterday. I was so sure that my doctor was going to say, oh Heather. He was exaggerating, she’s fine. Don’t worry. No, that’s not what he said. I know the same now as I did when I left the ER.

Her doctor told me that it’s a possibility. (See yesterday’s post if your confused here now.) He wouldn’t have said it to me like that, but it’s a possibility. What he wants to do is wait until the culture gets back. They did send it out for a culture? I don’t know, they were gone a long time. Heather, it takes 3 days to get a culture back. Well, no, they weren’t gone that long. LOL He wants to make sure that the sample wasn’t contaminated and that there truly is bacteria growing. And if it is truly bacteria, then yes, we start all of those tests. AGH! Now I have to wait until at least Wednesday before I find out what is going on. Possibly Thursday. I called the ER and told them to fax the results over to her dr, and they said ok. So, they must have sent it out for a culture. I was hoping. Otherwise I was going to end up back at the doctor’s office getting another sample of hers. I may not have insurance, but I am mighty thankful that my kids do. (Not medicare part d insurance mind you. Smooth, aren’t I? – again, word to blog – thanks for your concern)

So, I have pictures of our walk before she got sick. It was so weird. Because she was fine all day. Fine, we went out, came home, she took a nap and woke up extremely sick. :o (

Jordan scooting

Kat – she was mad I put her in boy clothes. I’ve got all of Jordan’s jogging pants that don’t fit him anymore, and I kept them as outdoors play clothes for her. She just doesn’t appreciate it. LOL And I can’t wait for her bangs to grow back out.

She wouldn’t look at me. I’ve 4 pictures of me trying to get a picture of her. I don’t think she’s used to this stroller and that’s why. I usually have the girls in a double stroller, but since Kat was scooting, I got out the old single.

Getting going

One of the few pics I got of him after this point he was up ahead of us the whole time.

Don’t ask me what is up with my funky editing. LOL I cropped some so they were closer, and didn’t crop them all the same.

Mom, look at the bird! LOL

This was funny. They were just hanging out by the street

Alyce noticed the geese – you should have heard the squeal!

Still watching the geese

Jordan watching the geese

Saying, mom! mom! Look at the geese!

Katiana stopping for a pine cone.

She was so funny! when she couldn’t keep up with me she would say, mom! I can’t keep the beat. But when I’d slow down a little, she’d say, MOM! I’m keeping the beat! LOL

My blue eyed baby

That’s the pics. It was a fun walk. I don’t know when it turned bad for Kat. But, she wasn’t throwing up as of about noon yesterday. And I got my coupons for our digital converters for the TV. So, we ran to Walmart to get them at about 5. She was acting fine, man. Her and Jordan were fighting like normal. I had to get Jordan’s adderol refilled too.

So we get to Walmart and Jordan starts complaining that his head hurts. I grab a thing of Head On. Thinking those commercials say, you’re commercials stink but your product works great. No, it doesn’t. By the time we were at the check out, Jordan had dropped to the ground crying. So, I grabbed a little thing of advil, gave him one and he was better with in 20 minutes. I tried the head on later on when I started getting a head ache, and he was right, it actually kind of made you notice the headache more.

We got home with our digital converters. I’m all excited because our antennae stinks. Channel 5 does not come in well and the rest of the channels you have to fiddle with it constantly. So, I go to unscrew the antennae from the TV to hook up the box. Yeah, I don’t know what Pato attached it with, but it wasn’t working. I send Jordan down to our neighbor’s to get pliers. He came back with 2 pairs. I still couldn’t get it off. I’m sure Pato’s ears were burning in Mexico with how I was feeling. Finally, it turned. Woops. It broke off the piece on the TV that the antennae screws on to. Oh I was mad. Our TV is like 1 1/2 years old. Mad mad mad. So, then I have to read the instructions on how to hook this stupid box up to the TV with the video/audio cables. Got that done, and you still have to screw the antennae into the box. Well, I broke the antennae too. LOL Jordan brings me out his, got it hooked up, yippie! We have TV again. Pato’s going to be thrilled that I broke that piece off. But I say, he shouldn’t have screwed the dang thing on so tight.

It’s been a crazy few days. Can you tell? LOL
